1. These images of crazy DBs are making me think of the sports-car-vs.-penis-size concept! Really, a DB player doesn't need his - er - instrument to be shiny like that. It's already big enough! And if the DB player is a woman, she'd be noticed even if she played an invisible one...
2. I wouldn't play an aluminium bass guitar, so I assume I'd shun an aluminium double bass too. Mind you, I definitely would have a go on it first, though
3. Brilliant. I'm on board with Twitter - just let me know. The Gigs forum, on the other hand, is still waiting for an admin to create a new subforum for testing the band media section. I'll give you guys here a shout when that happens, in case your bands want to publish live material as well as studio stuff.
4. Excellent! Thanks Peter and Julian! Take lots of photos, sign the book and the T-shirt, and let us see the pics
5. Just wait for the photos!!
6. I had promised to try the subforum setup eventually, and I think it will work, if other BCers add their own bands to it. If, after some time, I notice that the forum starts languishing and the threads don't get updated, I'll revert to the single area setup. Now it's just a matter of waiting until an admin finds the time to help me, as I'm not allowed to create new directories.
7. Thank you Elias - I was hoping someone else would reply too, but since yours is the only answer, I have now asked if an admin could create that subforum for us, and then I'll move the relevant threads into it, and we'll test that scenario too.
8. These photos are awesome. I'd love you guys to create photo threads for each of your bands in the Gigs forum, and copy these pics there, and then I'd pin the threads (and eventually create a subforum dedicated to them)
9. I'll be back on camera duties for that, and boy am I going to take lots of photos of all of us dressed as our 1970s selves!
10. No, I don't think the Gigs forum and its live (NB - live) photos and vids should have anything to do with the Recording forum. If we really want to create one single repository for each band's "stuff", be that released tracks, promo videos, professional photos or live stuff, then the only solution would be to mix the two forums together in one big confusing jumble. I'm firmly against that.
11. Perhaps, in the case (heh!) of vintage basses, the instrument lasts longer than the wooden box with usually not very durable hinges it originally came in?
12. Not sure where all the initial interest has gone. Are critics of the pinning of threads beginning to get used to those we have here at the top? Are you all past caring one way or another?
13. I've just added my vote and will now tweet this thread. Let me know what I can do for the new setup on social media in due course
14. Right - back in action! I've been informed that I'm not allowed to create subforums but I am allowed to move threads into an existing one. So the next step will be for me to ask an admin to please create one to dedicate to our bands' media. Question 1 - How should we name that subforum? Anybody have any suggestions? Question 2 - Would it be better to have two subforums under Gigs (one for the listings and one for the bands' media), or should we simply go for a Media subforum and leave the listings "loose", as they are now? Thank you all for your help, patience and cooperation so far
15. There are extremely cheap, Indonesian-made lefty Beatle Basses (see my avatar), no need to turn one upside-down. They're short scale, but IMO not too comfy to play. I would go with a Warwick short scale, whatever model is available - all the small bodied ones are much more ergonomic than a B-Bass and better sounding.
16. Thanks Nik! I have added the photo to my blog of the day.
17. Yay! Great stuff Thanks Sean! Hope you all had a good time. I'll be back behind the camera for the 70s night in Burnham on 26th
18. Excellent. Thanks
19. Lol! Currently at Heathrow waiting for my flight to Florence. No smell of burning here. I might have one of Mum's cantuccini when I get there
20. Wonderful
21. It's the late Ronnie Dio, the voice of God (he was probably the best heavy rock singer ever, IMHO).
22. Jokes aside, there were only 150-odd followers when I took over the account in Aug 2012, so that's encouraging.
