1. My new Spector being a fairly dark cherry colour seems to suck up the light. I tried taking pics indoors, but it didn't really work, outdoor light seems to have worked though. Hopefully these pics will be the right way up.
2. I'll fess up to once playing in a band that used backing tracks extensively. The functions that we played at they couldn't care less about my playing ability, it was all about the singing, so that's what they got. They got four great singers, two of whom played guitar. (Yes, I played guitar there.) Everything else was backing tracks. I was comfortable, I had done all of the backing tracks. If you play a wedding and get paid £xxx (3 digits) each for it, for playing a bit of guitar and singing, it's not the worst gig in the world. Conversely, I also play in a prog band where it's only ever cost me money and the level of musicianship is the highest I've ever experienced. I like both. One gives you financial reward, the other, artistic reward. You can feel comfortable with both, I do.
3. £65 couriered. in response to the above, no bumpage intended.
4. Edited to add courier details. Yes, this behemoth, can be moved by night freight for £20. If that helps move it on, I'll happily take the grief of arranging it all.
5. I think I can contribute to this thread. I am as of the last 24hrs now a Spector owner. Had been checking out lots of stuff over the last few weeks and finally plumped for this bad boy. It doesn't seem to photograph particularly well, but I've tried my best. Being such a deep cherry red, it really needs strong light and I'll need some daylight for that I think. Anyway, here it is. I've had 6s before, but not what you might call anything of great quality.
6. I've tried my best to like Ashdown stuff. I just find the sound indescribably wooly and unresponsive. I regularly have a play through a 6x10" ABM cab with ABM 500. It may be almost industry standard, but I'm afraid I'm just not seeing the logic. Plenty of woof, no mid, indifferent top. Not for me. On the flip side, a 2x10" Markbass wedge style combo that I used at Summer's End was everything I ever wanted a bass amp to be. Costs less too but just has a far more audible sound.
7. Holy old thread resurrection Batman !!! Now for sale at a straight £50 take it away.
8. This is what I try to do and I do agree, without a clip, you'll never know. I guess I'll have to try and sort that out. I guess it's as simple as continuing practising and concentrating on what I feel are the issues. A clip if I can work out a simple way of doing it.
9. I've long thought that I suffered what is best described as poor economy of motion in both my fretting hand and also in my plucking hand. It's something I consciously try to avoid, but it always seems to be there. I'm not even sure that I do actually do it, but it feels to me like I do and it often feels to me like it limits fluidity and dexterity. Obviously, it's only right that I offer up some excuses here. I'm left handed and play right handed. I know, that's no excuse, but there you go. Also I believe I have particularly long fingers. Never held Stanley Clarke back, but I'm sticking with it. Any suggestions or techniques for keeping the fingers limited to doing what they need to do and no more ? It feels to me like they move around more than they need to and I'd like to address it. Cheers JF
10. Man that's pretty... Tell me more, never heard of Arcangeli. A quick Google finds and Italian manufacturer. That the one ?
11. Closer to a Lakland headstock. What that needs is a few quid worth of headstock decal with something like Lakeside or Lake District on it. Had it been the right shape, it could so easily have worn a Fecker Pretender logo with pride.
12. Superb live vocal harmony processor. As simple as can be. Feed it a guitar signal and it'll provide 2 harmonies to the original line. Also has reverb and compression effects. Really, the only setting are where you want the harmonies. Lower or higher than the original. Only for sale as I'm trying to get the wedge together for another bass. Still boxed with the transfromer and in excellent order. Here's a link to a typical new advert. http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View_PLU&PLU=8727&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=PriceComparison And a video demo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4-SYz3_BCA Best used by a single backing vocalist who then provides it all to a lead vocalist as it's much more real when used like this. £100 posted or £95 picked up.
13. Ah, my mistake for not mentioning where I am. I'm just to the north of Glasgow. I have no problem in packing it properly and posting it in its own good quality padded hard case. This survived the cargo hold of a 737, so should be up to the job. The bridge is a fairly chunky thing indeed and standard fit.
14. Which one to buy. Went for a Saturday morning soiree into Glasgow yesterday. The plan was simple. Guitarguitar to try out the Squier Jazz fretless which they had in stock and also try out the Mex standard Jazz fretless. The mex had slightly punchier pickups but had a slight neck discrepancy up arounf the 15th 'fret' where the G string choked as it passed over the line. Close, but not close enough. The Squier was pretty equal in terms of quality but was a truss rod adjustment away from being a player. Let's go round to Merchant City Music. Pretty identical Squier Jazz Fretless, but this one had actually been set up. Instant back pickup, tone rolled off Jaco vibe. It's why I'd buy one. I pretty much committed on the spot that this was "the one". Pending confirmation from The Management of course. Just at that point my mate unhelpfully pointed out a Sterling Sub which I hadn't clocked. Jacket straight off, I had to try it as I've always wanted to see for myself if they really can do the Stingray tone. Bugger me, what a sound. Instant Stingray. Lovely to play, bright punchy sound with super mids and as much bottom end as I'll ever need. So what do you do when you go looking for something, find it, but also fall in love with something else too. I suspect I know what some of you will say and I'm currently trying to move enough stuff that I can make this happen bit it looks unlikely. I can make one happen though, so which ?

I know, that's a long title, but that's what it is. As per the pictures, it's in a lovely sunburst colour and is in near mint condition. Condition is very very good. If I were a dishonest person, I could give it a right good polish and pass it off as new. I've had it about 7 years now and imported it from Florida where I personally brought it back. Only for sale as I've seen something I fancy and am working on a 'one in one out' policy right now. As long as the money is irretrievably mine before the bass goes anywhere. If posting, the cost will be whatever we both mutually establish it to be and not a centime more. Over to you. Some pics included of the bass at rest and also in action. I'll be sad to see it go, but I fancy a bit of a change.
16. Spoke too soon. Went to pick it up at lunchtime. The only thing missing was a pair of green tights and a quiver of arrows to wear whilst playing it. Yes, the neck had a bit of a shape to it. Who knows, it might well have adjusted iut, but then again it might not at which point I'm stuck with it. Walking away is sometimes the best approach. Next !!
17. It does a bit I suppose, if you squint a teensy wee bit. (I'm a Musicman novice, so had to Google this) Like this one. Now looking forward to input from McNach on all things OLP.
18. Always wanted one of these and managed to snag one at a very fair price at last. It always helps when your local Gumtree throws one up at a very good price and within 10 minutes walk of work. Some pics. price was a very fair, I think, £80. I'm sure I'll be conisdering P'ups and preamps soon enough.
19. The CV series does manage to capture most of what I would look for in a bass. Having said that, the Stingray type bass is rather calling me. Probably a Sterling Sub ?
20. I occasionally look in on alt.guitar.bass but rarely post these days. (s/n ratio is atrocious). Anyway, one of the regs Derek Tearne posted the following. Great for critiquing your own technique and a use of a GoPro camera I hadn't thought of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_vz-LgjF50
