1.
That, going through a Trace Elliot, has to be aggressive and beastly as hell!
To be honest, it just sounds mighty no matter what I plug it into. I did a gig last week with no backline, but with 2.5K of PA and it wast just awesome. Depth, clarity, voice, B string rumble. It was all there. For the first time, I'm at a loss as to what other bass might stand a chance of being played next to it.
2. Had to contribute. This is my setup as it was two weeks ago. AH150-7 and 1153. More pics in a day or two when the final piece of the jigsaw finally slots home. A 2102. All in matching green carpet. Can hardly wait, will be going for a tall and skinny stack rather than a low and wide one. This the cab I'm waiting on arriving. Still love the Trace stuff.
3. Lovely little brute of an amp for a great price.
4. It's very noticable with most of them. The moment they have to hold a note for any length of time and sing it in full belt voice (which most of them can't) they bottle it and opt instead for the vocal gymnastics, which the judges seem to mistake for talent. If it was truly a vocal ability competition, there would be some prescribed tests that they had to pass. It isn't, so there aren't. I say this with no hint of delusion or arrogance. The singer in my covers band would wipe the floor with anyone I've ever seen on any of these talent shows. Doesn't mean he'd ever make it, because he wouldn't. He couldn't handle the system and the system couldn't handle him.
5. Jaco would have been 61 yesterday, if my arithmetic serves well. Thinking aobut this yesterday, I had to squeeze a wee tribute in at last night's gig. I can exclusively reveal that the main riff from The Chicken fits right into Remedy by The Black Crowes as if it had grown there. It's even in Bb which is perfect. Happy belated birthday Jaco.
6. Well, from my own persepctive, it went well. When you have the desk next to you, you're not going to have a bad sound. I have to say that the Spector through a couple of 1.2KW crown amps and some http://www.logic-system.co.uk/ pa cabs has never sounded quite so mighty. Plenty of clarity, voice and endless depth. I was utterly surrounded by my sound. I had a little back through the monitors too whcih helped too, no doubt. This gives me a problem. How do I square my amp wants / amp needs ? Don't get me wrong, I'll never not have an amp, there will be times when I won't have that PA to rely on, but it' certainly clear now that with that much firepower in the FOH, you can gig pretty much anywhere with no amp. Incidentally, I used no sansamp or similar. This was bass right into a line input of a Mackie CFX12 with the input clipped and the eq dead flat.
7. My preference is try before you buy. Two sealed boxes with ostensibly the same instrument inside could be entirely inside the box. A sealed box holds no attraction for me at all. Merchant City Music in Glasgow set up every guitar before it goes in sale. How it should be.
8. It's a very thin top veneer, but yes indeed a pretty looking bass. Regarding the price, I always believe in a fair price. If you got it at a good price then karma says you sell it for a good price. Let's say I didn't cut my throat here and the new owner didn't pay a fortune either. As it should be and I get a nice new Trace cab with the sale proceeds.
9. Lovely bass. The thing that surprises me most is the bridge. Lovely high mass bridge. But completely similar ( verrry similar) to the one on my old Squier Jazz deluxe. Same with the string retainer. Dang purrrrty.
10. Nobody needs a bass amp. Do I want to be without one ? No chance, that's why I've just bought another cab for a proper old fashioned stack. See freshly amended sig for details. Sometimes what you should do and what you actually do are two different things Besides which, I have a couple of festivals next year. Not doing those without a proper amp behind me, no matter how good the FOH is.
11. The covers band is playing in a pretty tiny pub tonight and it was apparent that we really need to have things under tight control to avoid an escalating volume firestorm. Had a rehearsal during the week where we brought along the proposed setup. Roland TD12 drums complete with rubber cymbals, my Spector right into a PA channel, two guitars DI'd from two tiny little practice amps to give a DI output. No real volume from these. Logic PA with subs and mid tops and 2.5KW available power. Pair of Behringer 12" powered monitors. We'll see how it goes, but the other night it sounded as smooth and controlled as I've ever heard it. Hope that's echoed tonight.
12. He does that. Always makes the effort to be a good guest I have to say

14. Hi I'm now in a position to but this if it's still for sale. I'll arrange and pay for the courier of that makes it easier.

16. Ok, on the basis of the interest so far, let's go to Dutch Auction format. In compliance with forum rules, I'll deduct £10 every 36 hours until someone blinks and buys it. Now £110 plus delivery.
17. Plays lovely and looks lovely, just not for me. I wanted one of these for a while and finally got one. Unfortunately, I got it around about the same time as I got a 6 string Spector. I'm sufficiently hooked on the Spector that the OLP isn't going to see much use. For that reason, I'm selling it for what it owes me. If anyone happens to have any of the following, I'd be interested in doing a deal. 1) Trace Elliot 2103 cabinet. Ideally green carpet covered. 2) Small ish bass combo. 3) Fretless bass of some sort. Would be very keen on a Vintage VJ96MRJP. For the purposes of value, I would be looking at [s]£120[/s] £110 for a straight sale. Here's a wee clip of how it sounds. Nothing too elaborate, but I reckon a pretty sweet sounding little bass. http://snd.sc/10N9LRu And some pics. If the link doesn't work. I'll edit to make sure it does. I understand the importance of pics.
18. See my other thread. Found another locally which I now have and I have to say I'm loving it.
19. I started to practice in front of a mirror, to give the same perspective as someone viewing my playing. I guess I don't have as much of a left hand issue as I thought I might. Still not sure about the right hand. What I did pick up is that the ring finger on my left hand is a bit underused with the pinky seeing far more use. This is odd as when I'm playing guitar for example, it sees no end of use when playing rythm but then falls slightly into disuse when playing any sort of line. Same on bass, it gets a bit less use than the others. I'm going to concentrate my efforts on that. 47 years old, been playing for about 35 of those years and every day is still a school day.
20. Nightfreight will courier this for you for less then £20, bookable through Parcelmonkey. I just shipped a very similar Peavey 410tx through them. Wrap it in some cardboard and packing tape and away it goes. I didn't use a box, just cut sections of boxes neatly to shape and wrapped it neatly around the cab to create a box. Lashings of tape and it's good to go. For £110 delivered this is still a bargain. This might help you get it shifted.
