1. I bought this Harley Benton one due to its sound after comparing with a 30W Roland Cube: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbw35.htm It's only £72, but the shop had told me it was the same price as the Roland. Based on this positive experience, I later bought a "larger" Harley Benton model to lend out to a friend. Reportedly it's very good: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cb110x.htm It's £104, and for roughly another £10 you get a double foot switch for the built-in effects. Thomann also have a B-stock at £97: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cb_110x_b_stock_3.htm BUT: Harley Benton may have quality issues. I am satisfied, but some threads here seem to indicate they may have more issues than other brands. For the same price as the 110W HB you could also get a Fender Rumble 15. Have no experience with them, but they come recommended: http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_rumble_15.htm best, bert
 2.
Nobody ever heard of recording devices?
Well, recording was mentioned by three people before you wrote that, so statistically it's safe to assume that at least one in eight have heard about them. Personally, I wouldn't know what to do with one - even after reading this. I hear stuff, either in my head or played by someone, and write that down - and work on finger placement and phrasing later, with annotation. I really hate writing notes, but a recording device doesn't give me notes, so I guess I'd be lost with one. best, bert
 3. Notes on staves, but just because I've done that for 50 years and don't know anything else. Have no idea about its possible drawbacks - as to what finger on what string and stuff - but am initially not inclined to try and learn anything else now. best, bert
 4. Hey Jarek, Welcome to BC. Great write up in your intro. I'm sure you can teach a lot to many of us. Enjoy the site and our banter. best, bert
 5. Are we allowed to disregard internal battles and other nuisances? As in: just playing the music live? In case: Chic, Gentle Giant, Jamiroquai, Japan, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Mothers of Invention, Propaganda, Scritti Politti, Tool, Yes. ... and millions of others, surely.
 6. 'allo 'allo, Alexis, Lissain vairrie carrefourlie; Aie chelle sé zis ounlie vance: "Bienvenu aux Chats de Bass". Nous sommes des chats bel modernes et hippes. Or something. Enjoy the site! à la prochaine foie gras, bert (bertrand)
 7. "Animal" by Dalbello (Lisa Dal Bello) I'd say Dalbello's "Gonna Get Close to You", but would expect very few to pull it off. best, bert
 8. Yet another nail in my upright playing aspirations coffin. Demm him! Demm you all! Thanks. I've shared on FB. One of my best friends plays EUB, and she badly needs some suicide. best, bert
 9.
Yes, Bert. I know that too.
Never meant to underestimate you, bro'. Was just playing a little with the concept of smart bidding. best, bert
 10.
The only dispersion I have to worry about is how quickly we clear the crowd when we get a bit boring.
BassChat's Famous Quotes!
 11.
I'm interest in the idea of 2x ashdown VS112 and Little Mark 250 back line.
I have stuff like that on three of the shelves in the bookcase (is this English at all?) in the living room. They don't attract too much attention, and do not look big at all. It helps with the red cloth on the cabs, and guest tend to say "cool" rather than "wtf". Then again, wives are not guests, as some may have experienced. BTW, I have one cab above and one below the amp head. Dunno if that is better or worse, but possibly an idea? best, bert
 12.
Well the other guy probably put in "300" and the 5 could make it mine. (Ooops letting out all the secrets here)
Sorry, mate, but that plan is not a secret anymore. Actually, V.4.22 is out, and it incorporates bidding differently: Since most of the others are bidding £300, quite many of them are gonna bid smart, and put in £320, just to be sure. A few of them know this, and bid £321. One or two think outside the box, and say they just want it, and they bid £400, knowing full well it probably will be theirs for a mere £322. Here's were the new version comes in. You bid £422 and are sure to get it whatever the others bid or think. Congrats with the new £422 bass that you're hard presses to explain your wife the price of. best, bert
 13. It's been said, I think, but have you ever written new music and recorded yourself on a computer? Might just do away with the jadedness. Though I must warn you: I did that and wound up with playing bass instead. Me, I don't play in a band, and can't even play bass properly, but I do enjoy my synths, drums, guitars and 11 basses. (My main Bongo is so badly constructed I need 10 backups! ) Then again, I recognise the feeling, and am in fact selling lots of equipment now as it gets to be too much. You on the other hand, from the look of it, seem to need to wait a little before making that type of decision. It may just be a wave, and as said, you'll get relatively little for the bass now. Good luck with whatever you decide. best, bert
 14.
I subscribe to the view that if you're concentrating on your playing, you haven't practiced enough.
That was funny, coz in the classical world I come from, if you're not concentrating on your playing, you have too little to say about the music. But I do get your, valid, point. best, bert
 15.
I would reach for mine if there was a burglar in the house, i can tell you that!
Back on topic though, remember to always have small tonewoods (Steinberger style or similar) and a very short scale (Ashbory style or similar), so as not to harm the bass on walls or roof before it hits said perpetrator with full power. Wait. You have the Cort Gene Simmons axe maybe? Or did you mean you have a barrel instead of a truss rod? In case: nice touch! b, b
 16.
Are you referring to me? Because we have a problem if you are.
Nah. Referring to me, I guess, me obviously having said that a bass guitar is not a musical instrument but a weapon - or something like that. best, bert
 17.
Classical instruments are crazy expensive though.
That's what I did wrong, buying classical pipe organs, pianos, Hammonds and synths. Damn you, classical music! I agree with the lack of importance of tonewoods as opposed to other parameters, and repeat the point about the bow as concept. As long as a bass is a bow, and reverberations (is that the word?) are present (and can be felt) in both body and neck, one must never underestimate the importance of the dimensions in neck, body and joint, and the relative stiffnesses, as in: a rubber neck on a stone body will sound different than a stone neck on a rubber body. No, Discreet, I do not want to know how you dress after the nine o' clock news. b, b
 18. +1 for the rucksack. Oh, and +1 for respecting my authoritah. best, bert
 19.
Welcome Eddie,
HEY! Respect my authoritah! I said we call him Dave! The nerve... b, b
 20. Hey Eddie, Welcome to the forum! Now, no malice intended, but there's a gazillion of Eddies on BC, so I think it's best we call you something else. How about Dave? Be wise: Don't mind me, and enjoy the site. best, bert
 21.
looks dam good, i guess easier to handle too (i too was thinking the paddle look to it, but a normal bass would push more water)
... but then, you don't want to push more water, coz us humans are not strong enough. You want the most effective paddle for your own force. The Streamline must be one of the best paddles ever made, and I own a Hohner B2B. Here's another one of my paddles. Quite similar, eh? best, bert
 22. Hey Angel, Welcome! Great to read that you wish to help where you can. Sounds sensible too. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 23. Hey Avi, Welcome! I hope you'll feel at ease here sooner than later. As to buying a bass, I'm sure you'll be alright eventually, but yes, people probably think like you indicated. Whilst logic commands that once you have bank transferred the money, you're in the seller's power, and so sellers have little to fear from new buyers, the truth is that many still are afraid to hand out their bank account number for fear of something undefined in the realm of hacking and identity theft. There are also many many people who will not send basses, or will not send abroad. The positive side here is that those who do not wanna take your money also seem to be those who will not steal your money! BTW, I liked the Eden thing. As a good Israelite, I'm sure you also use a Viper bass and an Apple device when playing for Eve. Anyway, enjoy the site and its banter, and feel free to contribute with your wisdom. best, bert
 24.
OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE ON THESE????
Wot? $5,400? That's not much! It's RED fer cryin' out loud! I wonder what they'll charge in the UK or Norway. Must be gazillions. Shame, as I fell in love with all three of the colours. best, bert
 25. Hey Michael, Welcome! I'm sure it's great to have you here, and if you answer one WordPress question from every active BC account per week, I'd say you'd answer less than 400 questions each day. Quite doable, eh? Anyway, enjoy the banter, and share some of your wisdom when/if you feel inclined. best, bert
