  1. Looks not bad condition, but for that money, I'd expect it to be pristine personally. I had the fretless version around 79/80 (à la Sting and Colin Moulding) and it was lovely and so well made, but did weigh an absolute ton!
  2. Met up with Steve in the Midlands to take an immaculate Lakland 55-02 off his hands. I got really badly delayed by diversions and traffic jams en route, but he waited patiently for more than an hour and a half for me to get there! A great guy to deal with, buy/sell with complete confidence. Thanks Steve!
  3. For sale is a pristine Dingwall Afterburner 1, bought on here only recently, that I fully expected to keep. Unfortunately an unexpected expense has cropped up, so sadly it has to go. It's not only a rarity, but a particularly nice example, being light, resonant and beautifully balanced. There isn't a mark on it, so you can save yourself a good wedge on the new price, as well as a long wait if you were to order a new one, which is currently in the order of about 18 months I believe. Specs: Alder body in a lustrous candy apple red 5-piece maple neck Maple 24-fret fingerboard, 34”-37” scale 3x FD3 Neodymium pickups 4-position pickup selector Volume push/pull for active/passive 3-band Glockenklang EQ (treble is passive tone when EQ bypassed) Dingwall bridge and Hipshot Ultralite tuners Dingwall/Music Area Pro gigbag and Accessory bag Weight: 3.7kg Sorry, no trades please. NOW SOLD
  4. That's a severe bummer. 🙁 These are such great all-round basses - a P, a Jazz and a Stingray all rolled into one!
  5. The description says "Your purchase helps musicians and supports our studio!" The second part of that statement could certainly be said to be true I suppose, although their definition of support may differ. Who knows, if it actually sells for what they're asking, they could use some of the profits to help a musician, by donating it to the family of the late previous owner, for example.
  6. Still an awful lot of spondulicks to blow on a bass sight unseen. As far as I’m aware, ‘the neck feels like an old friend and plays like butter’ doesn’t constitute a legally binding guarantee. If I picked up a bass that felt like it had a soft, greasy, dairy-based neck, the first thing I would do is check if someone had dropped a tab of acid in my tea.
  7. Bought Mat's lovely Dingwall AB1. Took it out on a gig the same night and it was stellar, lots of compliments from band and punters alike. Mat was a pleasure to deal with - very prompt replies to PMs, and an all round nice chap when I went over to pick the bass up. Buy/sell with confidence. Thanks Mat!
  8. Quite. I'm guessing the £35 delivery charge won't include insurance!

  10. Back on the market again. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185771767035
  11. I'm pretty sure it'll be ceramic. They changed to Alnico around 2008 I believe.
  12. I'm guessing the finish may not be to everyone's taste, but it's a cracking bass, and seeing as a new one is over 2K now, this is also a bargain! GLWTS.
  13. My Combustion 5/3 nicely highlighted at last night's gig. Very blue, but then we are a blues band....
  14. I had one of these when they first came out in '80/'81. A little weighty as I recall, but great basses, and so well made, far better than Fenders of the time. Phil Lynott used one with Thin Lizzy for a while (with an added signature mirrored scratchplate!). GLWTS.
  15. That's very pretty! I've played a few of these, and they all had a bit of a neck dive issue. What's it like on a strap?
  16. Looks lovely Graham! 😄
  17. REDUCED TO £1400 For sale is a 2006 Musicman Stingray 5 in a rather fetching gloss black with gold hardware, and fitted with a Status Graphite neck. NOW SOLD.
  18. Amazed this is still here!
  19. I was there too. A lot of it went over my head! This was the highlight of the evening for me:
  20. Maybe weight isn't such an important consideration if you like the Sadowsky brand. On the Thomann site it says they weigh 70g, or 81.5g including the sleeve and the screw (why would they list their weight separately?) which is still on the heavy side considering the USA Hipshot half inch post, clover head equivalent is 55g all in. Even Hipshot's licensed version is only a couple of grams heavier than their USA one. They claim their USAs are 'machined, finished and assembled' in the States, apart from the screws, which are ' sourced globally'. It doesn't say where the parts are cast, though. The licensed ones are made in South Korea. Pricewise, the Sadowskys aren't even a good deal really. They work out at £17.20 for a set of 4 including shipping, whereas at Bass Direct the Hipshots start at £16 and £28 each shipped for the licensed and USA respectively, depending on the finish (again based on a set of 4). If you're looking to save weight and money, the Hipshot licensed tuners still win hands down. https://hipshot.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020825572-What-s-the-difference-between-Licensed-and-USA-Ultralite-tuning-machines-
  21. A young Laurence Cottle also hung out with this chap who you might recognise -
