  1. That's a great price considering the upgrades. I just bought a EHB1265MS which I'm very happy with, and the Barts are quite fat, but a bit on the dark side. The Aguilars are currently £299 for the pair at Andertons. GLWTS!
  2. That looks like it's been beautifully put together. The control cavity is HUGE! Any chance you can post a pic of the electronics? Thanks.
  3. This was shared by fretmeister, who apparently saw it on a YouTube video by the user LowEndLobster. I found it made a big difference, but I have to say at this point that you obviously try this completely at your own risk - if something fries, I accept no responsibility! It's probably also advisable to have nothing plugged into the jack socket when you do this so the preamp isn't active, or better still, remove the battery. There's a long connector board uppermost in the control cavity. The plug furthest to the right is in a socket marked '0dB IN'. If you move that into the empty socket to its left marked '+6dB IN' it gives a noticeable boost in overall output. I also found that moving the plug on the end of the board which is in 'VM3 OUT' to the adjacent socket marked 'BEQ3 OUT' boosted the treble and overall clarity of the tone quote a bit, giving the Bartolinis more edge and bite.
  4. I just picked up a new EHB1265MS-NML from Andertons, after seeing it on their website a couple of weeks back due in soon, and putting a deposit down. It's one of only two they got into stock, and the other one was sold before it arrived as well. After my niggles with the EHB1505MS two years ago, I have to say this is quite a different animal. Knowing what the potential pitfalls are helped, but not only was this very playable straight out of the box, but the preamp re-plugging (as suggested by @fretmeister and @6feet7 in my original review thread) made a substantial difference to the sound - not just a higher output, but noticeably more top end bite. I'll stick with the factory-fitted Barts for now, but I'm interested in the replacement Aguilars, just not interested enough to shell out £299 for the set! I love the look of the walnut top and ash body combination, much less gaudy to my eye than the pacific blue burst, but more interesting than a solid colour. I also have a Dingwall Combustion, so the multi-scale was no surprise, but the 35"-33" scale is really nice to play - not as much of a stretch as the Dingwall's 37"-34" scale. Particularly since re-plugging the preamp, the EHB has noticeably more zing and bark to its sound, making the Dingwall sound a little pedestrian in comparison. The strap button's going to have to move though. At least with the fanning of the tuners due to the multi scale, it can be re-sited on the body in a more traditional position in line with the middle tuner, which will help with the neck tilt issue. I've got a rehearsal with one of the bands on Sunday, so I'll report back once I've had a chance to use it in anger! First impressions are very positive though.
  5. Thanks for that. I just picked up a new EHB1265MS-NML from Andertons, after seeing it on their website a couple of weeks back due in soon, and putting a deposit down. 6. I had the fretless version of this bass, bought new in 79/80. They have a bit of weight to them, but they're really beautifully made, with a massive sound and a huge array of tones. GLWTS.
  7. Hi Don, if you read the PM I sent you several days ago, it contains the approximate shipping weight and dimensions. Go to UPS or some similar carrier's website, and it'll work out a more accurate cost depending on your location. You'd need to check with your local Customs service to find out what the import duty or taxes might be.
  8. Thanks, that's useful info! No concrete offers from Stateside yet, but plenty of interest...
  9. A rough quote via the UPS website came in at about £250 insured - obviously you'd have to factor in import duties and taxes on top of that.
  10. For sale is a Bergantino Forte D amp, only a month old. I bought it primarily because it's very small and light, and would run a 2 ohms load to power my two EBS cabs. It's a lovely amp with great features, extraordinary power, clarity and tonal versatility (the drive section is especially good) but I just prefer my old EBS head, even though it's bigger and heavier! So it's being moved on. Literally as new, been out of the house once for a rehearsal, never gigged. NOW SOLD
  11. For sale is the last remaining cab of my Genzler rig, a flat front Bass Array 12-3 cab complete with cover, bought new from Bass Direct about 18 months ago. It's been out of the house only a handful of times, and is in as-new condition. Retails at £700+. NOW SOLD
  12. NOW SOLD For sale is my Steinberger Synapse 5-string, which was converted to a lined fretless by a previous owner. As nice a bass as this is, I've come to realise that a fretless is wasted on me, so I've decided to move it on. It's light and very easy to play, with a great array of tones from the EMG magnetic pickup that can be blended with the piezo pickups under the bridge saddle, and an active 2-band EQ. Despite the slightly odd appearance of the strap 'hook', it's really well balanced and very comfortable on a strap or on the knee. A couple of the built-in standard string screw anchors at the end of the neck had failed, so I removed them and fitted an adapter for using single ball strings. Double ball end strings can still be used via the keyhole slots in the headpiece. It's just had a new set of D'Addario EXL170 nickels fitted, and also included are a set of double ball end flatwounds that were on it when I first got the bass.
  13. For sale is my Steinberger XL-2 from 1986, in great condition. Other than a few small scratches on the rear of the tip of the neck, there are no significant marks, no chips or dings in the finish, and negligible fret wear. It's been upgraded with Zen-On bridge saddles and an EMG BTC circuit with 2-band EQ by a previous owner. These basses are starting to get very rare, and especially in as good condition as this one. It comes complete with the original gig bag, and a non-original strap and brass string adapter to allow the use of standard strings. Collection is preferred, but I can box it up securely and ship it at the buyer's expense if that's not possible. Sorry, but no trade offers please. NOW SOLD
  14. It's not that much... you'll get a fiver change! 😉
  15. If they're still setting fire to English-owned holiday homes in Wales it'll probably feel just like California...
  16. For sale is my Wal MkII 5-string in a black gloss finish with gold hardware and an ebony fingerboard. Made in 1991, it's in excellent condition despite the fact it's now approaching its 31st birthday, the only significant wear and tear in three decades being a chip out of the poly finish on the very tip of the headstock. It's sporting a custom scratchplate that Kim at Charlie Chandlers made for it, but I understand it's held in place by the truss rod 'boat', so can be removed. Kim also did a full refret and PLEK last year, and it plays like a dream. A new set of D'Addario EXL-170 nickels have just been fitted. The tuners were replaced with Schaller M4S lightweights, but the original Schaller tuners are also included in the sale. At 4.9kg, it's not too heavy as Wals go, and balances very well on the knee or a strap. It comes complete with the original blue/grey case, fully functional with all catches working, and it even has a key! If you look closely you should be able to see the metal-handled allen key that the earliest Wals came with also in the case, although this originated from an older MkII I owned a few years ago. I'm not too keen to ship it for obvious reasons, so collection is preferred, but I can box it up securely and ship it (fully insured) at the buyer's cost and risk if picking it up is not possible. I got some rough costs from UPS for this, and within the UK would be approximately £125, USA and elsewhere £250+ (plus import duties and taxes payable in the destination country). Sorry, but no trade offers please. NOW SOLD.
  17. My first bass was a second-hand Baldwin 704 bought for me by my Dad for £30 in 1975. It was identical to the one in the pic below (not mine, I don't go in for quilt-making) but a previous owner had fitted a Gibson mud-bucker in the neck position, presumably hoping it might look/sound like an Epiphone Rivoli. After a while I realised that I looked incredibly unhip attempting to play Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple covers on a semi-acoustic, so I part-exchanged it for a new Antoria Jazz. I saw one of these for sale in a shop in Ladbroke Grove about 15 years ago, and they were asking £750 for it!
  18. With the greatest of respect, I don't think posting photos on here is the way to go with it. I'm a bit bemused that you haven't spoken to Martin or John to ask them what they can do to resolve your concerns. The original post that you attached your complaint to is nearly 13 years old, but if you've read it you will be aware of the fantastic work The Gallery have been doing for 3 decades, and their reputation for excellence that continues to this day. Martin and John have done work on a lot of my basses over many years, and have built custom instruments for me as well. Their work and customer service has always been impeccable, without exception. What I would suggest you do is speak to them yourself first, and see what can be done to resolve the issues you have. If you don't think the controls been fitted correctly, I'm sure they will be more than willing to find a way to resolve the matter, even if some time has passed since you had the work done.
  19. Steve bought my custom GSP Stingray, and took the time to travel the not inconsiderable distance to collect. A lovely fella, and we had a great chat about all things bass. Thanks Steve!
  20. Whenever I see one of these, it makes me immediately think of Henry 'Magic Thumb' Thomas and Rockschool. Simpler times...
  21. Feel free to make me an offer - I might say yes! 😉
  22. Wow. Precisely this model and finish was my very first bass, bought second hand from a local music shop for the princely sum of £30 in 1975. The only difference with mine was a previous owner had taken out the neck pickup and put a huge Gibson mudbucker in its place. Bizarrely, I watched Get Carter in its entirety for the first time just last week, and I did wonder whether the bass in the bar scene was a Baldwin! Takes me back. GLWTS.
  23. Three of the four listings I currently have in the classified have disappeared from the 'Activity/My Activity Streams/Content I Started' list, which is how I usually find them to bump or edit them, but also can't even be found by searching the relevant forum. In each case I had to go through all the forum pages one by one to find them, but they didn't return to the Activity list even after being bumped.
  24. I owned that one too! It's quite a few years ago, but I think it came via Bernie who was probably the EBS distributor at the time of Marcus's visit. I only sold it because I moved up to a TD650. Great amps. GLWTS.
