1. Fugazi - got as close as standing outside one of there's but couldn't get in because it was sold out when I got there REM - just never got round to it. Wished I'd have seen them in the early 90s. Supergrass - I'm still puzzled as to why I never saw them. They were fantastic. Frank Zappa - in 1988. This is the one I most regret but I was yet to hear his music (I bought Ship Arriving Too Late... in 1990). At the time of his death I'd become a huge fan. Thankfully Dweezil is now playing his dad's music, and the ZPZ gigs I've been to have all been wonderful.., but I know it's not the same.
2. I don't know about better, but it's the one I prefer; Voivod - Astronomy Domine
3. "It was one of those nights when you turn off the lights And everythin' comes into view" "Dearly beloved We are gathered here today To get through this thing called life" "Help me, I think I'm falling, in love again"
4.
Palace Brothers. (Later known as Days In The Wake.) Saltash Bells. Sound on Sound. Clear Spot. Rising Above Bedlam. Germ-Free Adolescents.
Clear Spot. Good call. It's one of my all time favourite LPs. And it appears to dwell in the shadow of Trout Mask Replica. It is a truly wonderful album.
5.
I'm glad to see you haven't lost your facility with extreme litotes.
Oh, good word usage that man!
6.
I thought that gated snare thing was Bowie's legacy from 'Let's Dance'?
I thought it was "Modern Love"!
7. I'm enjoying The Magic Whip.
8. Thanks ChunkyMunky, I enjoyed that clip. The bassline to Club Tropicana is particularly spiffy.
9. I'll second the view on Alexa De Paris; it's wonderful. And nice to see someone else compare his playing with FZ. I'm a huge fan of both and have for a long time thought the same rather than the usual comparisons with Hendrix which you read about. Back to the b sides, if you can find them, check out the full length versions of; Shockadelica La la la, he he hee B sides to If I Was Your Girlfriend and Sign O The Times respectively. La la la, He he hee even has a bass solo..., played by Prince..., but only on the full length version! The extended versions of Raspberry Beret and Mountains in particular are also well worth seeking out. 17 Days, the flip to When Doves Cry, I think is fantastic and She's Always In My Hair, b side to Paisley Park is possibly my favourite Prince song but then there are so many to choose from. In summary then; if you're in a record store and see a Prince 12". Buy it!
10. Third comment down there's a link to Prince playing bass on Partyman. Check THAT out.
11. Nathan Watts played bass on AC/DC's High Voltage, recorded at Electric Ladyland, through an amp.
12. Thomas Morgan Robertson, prior to changing his name to Thomas Dolby, emitted a high frequency hiss.
13. Despite their claims, Lindisfarne never actually gained legal ownership of the fog on the Tyne
