Pretty much all the poorest features of a Strat rolled into one instrument. Horrible 70s headstock, hard-tail bridge, nasty relic'd body

I think the price at least partly reflects the fact that Nile really wanted an exact replica of the real thing.
His strat is a '60 body with a '59 neck apparently. He nearly lost it on a train late last year.
  2. I have two NS5CR FMs and they both replaced Ken Smith BSR5GNs. Same growl, more midrange and I customised them with Wizard pickups, Noll parametric eq and coil splits for a bit more versatility. Amazing value for money and one is definitely a keeper. For a while, I also owned a Euro 6 with a spalted maple top and alder wings that came out of the Sound Control sell off. It was also a nice bass that I gigged for a while but it didn't have the mid range growl of the all maple NSCR5.
  3. It's a complicated issue. Some of the live bootlegs have no commercial value at all yet can become very valuable archives. Also Prince has to balance up the negative publicity of suing a fan and the positive profile that bootlegs give against his potential loss of royalties...assuming that there is a direct relationship between live bootlegs and the loss of income he might have gained from publishing recorded material at the same event. Some artists seem to be like King [s]Midas[/s] Canute - trying to control something that ultimately can't really be controlled. A more astute and pragmatic way to use illegal downloads is to use them to help identify new markets. http://www.citeworld...icmetric?page=0 That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you turn a frown upside down.
  4. Does it use 6L6 or 6V6 tubes?
  5. My EBS Combo 60 can be used with acoustics anyway (according to the user manual) so I use it with electric too. Its a little too hi-fi to be honest but settles down through a speaker sim.
  6. Looks like an EG rather than GN with that extra laminate in the body wings.
It seems to be all about marketing nowadays, and to be fair it's not just Fender who are at it. I know PRS are coming from an entirely different angle but they always had the whiff of the Objet d'art about them, to me (I'm not saying I don't like looking at them, but I've been uninspired by the ones I've played so far.)
It's always been about marketing - Fender became so dominant in the 60's out of marketing and sheer manufacturing capability.
I'm undecided as to whether it's a means of screwing us for more money by tapping into our fetishes, or because they have a need to do it in order to keep their place in the market. Either way I'm not turned on by this hitmaker (not least because I can make a perfectly adequate job of bashing my own guitars into things, much as I try to avoid it;) one mans meat though! It's the sound+the way it feels in my hands = a happy Thumbducker, but as the owner of a usa strat and a gibson, I feel like I'm as much a victim of marketing as the next man to some extent.
Endorsements sell instruments. Much marketing in the music instrument industry is about living the dream - the dream of sounding like your hero, the dream of success/glamour/fame, or there are people out there who don't know much about different brands so go with what they recognise...on the assumption that if everyone else is playing a brand then it must be good.
Unless I'm ever in the financial position to buy a top-notch, English made electric guitar, I can't see me ever buying another new electric guitar. I'm hoping the next electric I get will be made by me, but I think that's little more than a pipe dream at this moment in time.
Unlike when I started playing back in the mid 80's, there are many very good quality guitars available at extremely affordable prices. Yamaha do some fantastic stuff for example. Cort are pretty good too, and some of the Chinese brands like SX have also had good feedback.
  8.
Infinite shape feature is more than a gimmick, it really does help to get anywhere from a traditional British Marshall sound right through to a modern heavy weight distortion.
Can it do Fender?

http://www.thomann.d...aker_strato.htm Have you seen how much Fender are asking though? The pricing is consistent with their other signature custom shop models but for me the attraction would be the sound rather than the bragging rights or living some kind of disco fantasy. Hopefully they'll do a MIJ version. The Marcus Miller basses were very popular because they made the right noises and were priced at a level that was accessible for real musicians rather than middle aged mancave heroes.
  10. If the tool was used with a MIDI pickup and convertor, it might result in more consistent tracking.
  11. Next on my GAS list is a Series 2000 5 string....hoping the basschat faeries will make contact...
  12. Lovely find...thanks for sharing
  13. We can't just take your word for it...although the fact that its all acoustic and capable of a strong reaction is interesting in itself. Got any clips?
  14. For the most part they're very solid performers and great value. I don't like gritty amps so they're traditional models aren't to my taste. But the MK head is a bit of a gem and definitely shouldn't be dismissed considering what they go for if/when you find them.
  15. And don't forget the Sunburst Band either. He's the UK's equivalent of Gene Perez after all the work he's done with Joey Negro.
All these are absolute filth! Is that a Kahler on that MSG (my favourite trem)?
It's Yammie's own take on the Floyd Rose called an RM Pro - standard issues on MSG Deluxes and Customs. I'm struggling to put the thing down to be honest, there are so many nice noises to make out of it. The low output was because I had the humbuckers split. When both humbuckers are on full, its like a very good Les Paul.
My main guitar - Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro Elite. They were always seen as a poor-mans PRS
Are you kidding me? Have you seen the used prices on Ebay? I don't know of any poor man who could afford one of these, let alone a PRS....

Here's one I picked up today. I'm a bit gushy over it at the moment so will keep the hyperbole under control... I love how funky it sounds and how it looks.
  19. Wow...what a treasure trove. I actually tried something like the set up described in the TH2 vid - basically going comp ->vol -> chorus -> split into A/B with A clean and B overdriven. Worked really well and the volume pedal allowed good control of the tone between clean and dirty.
  20. OK, apologies for the delay in posting this next section of the survey. A few domestic issues absorbed more of my time than I expected. 21.
I still prefer the simplicity of the Zoom though. 4 presets, always consistent at any volume you like. So, in a roundabout answer to the question, with any amp or effects unit I now try to find my "signature sound in my head" and just make small adjustments and stick to 3 or 4 similar patches.
For all the gear Steve Lukather has, he's got pretty much the same four types of patches on all his songs too!
  22. Jon Shuker would be a natural choice but he's in the Peak District.
  23.
Is it my imagination or did RDJ sound remarkably like Sting?.........overdubs?? Surely not.
Well, he's singing a Sting song so the melody will be similar (sort of speaky)...and Sting sings in an American accent...in the true British rock n roll tradition... I love the space in Stings songs. He's an amazingly elegant song writer.
  24. Glad it was appreciated.
  25. Perfect transaction with David - great comms, outstanding packing and delivery.
