OK Phatmonkey has updated the forum software, so we shouldn't be getting any more bogus account sign ups. However there may still be validated accounts that we're not aware of yet. Many thanks to the people who have already PM'd Ped and I with spam posts.

I've just done a search on Google for one of the account IP addresses registered today which was 200.63.42.85 and it looks like there are a whole load of forums under attack today, not just Basschat. You can look the IP up yourself and see the dates the accounts were created on any one of these other forums.

thanks Jake We have to edit their user accounts as the bot seems to be placing links in their signatures. So deleting all the posts isn't enough. At least they're following the forum policies! EDIT: Looks like Captcha has been invoked in the forum settings. Maybe a bot isn't responsible after all...
5. Nnnnnnice.
6. Over the last couple of days, it appears the forum has been subject to a series of spam attacks. Some of you will have probably noticed that a few of these user accounts have managed to post some pretty graphic content, not suitable for a R13 forum. Firstly I'll apologise to any of you who stumbled across this content while browsing. Secondly it looks like they might be using a bot to register up to 15 user accounts each day and make posts. I have already left a message with Phatmonkey about the possibility of introducing some kind of Captcha facility at registration in the hope we can make it more difficult for bogus accounts to be registered. Finally not all of it is graphic in nature, but if you could notify a mod the instant you spot anything we'd be grateful. Until we get some additional security measures in place we're going to have to fight this using the Admin equivalent of hand to hand combat. Unfortunately its almost unavoidable that some spam from the more plausible looking accounts is bound to get through.
7.
These look good and probably sound good as well, but where are the customers for a £3000 bass in the UK? BG, Overwater, Sei, RIM, ACG, the newly resurrecting Wal and others are already fighting over a very small customer base. The pickup is unique and flexible but didn't we discover in another thread that most of us get a sound we like then rarely change the tone controls? I wish Enfield Guitars good luck and think they'll need it starting up, as they are, on the verge of a recession.
I think there's definitely merit in the concept. I definitely need two instruments for my function band and in an ideal world I'd have three (5 string/p-bass/stingray), I think the launch might just be unfortunate timing on their part. The recession is hitting pretty quickly, no month is the same at the moment. Knowing the lead in times with suppliers and outsourcing, the financial committment would probably have been made long before the recession started to bite. All purely speculation (but educated speculation nonetheless) on my part BTW. It would be interesting to know how many instruments they anticipated shifting a month in order to cover their overheads.
8.
You have no possible way to know that.
You're trying to bait me again.
isn't that the point of starting a buisness? same as fender, warwick, squier, ibanez, yamaha, alembic, status etc its all about the bottom line.
Certainly is.
9. Nice tidy profit margin being made on those, I think.

Helloooo

welcome scary! Some other lady bass players have said hello here if you're interested? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...40&start=40
11. I went to the trouble of loading my entire rig and basses onto a ferry, in the rain, to get across to an near derilict venue on an island near Kingston on Thames. This was in anticipation of breaking in my still boxed Genz Benz Shuttle only to discover the speakon cable I'd paid for hadn't been included. Had to play through a 30w Roland keyboard combo and only JUST managed to hear myself under the vocal monitors.
12.
That was fun to play. A '59 (IIRC) P with flatwounds. Played a bit of James Jamerson on it as it felt appropriate!
Thats one I wish I had spotted and had a go on as well. Kicking myself!

RIP Leftysteve

On behalf of the forum, you're very welcome Polly Many thanks to Coasterbass (Nick) who deserves credit for organising the flowers and managing the whipround.
14. from my very limited understanding, both clefs are used.
15. But just to be clear Sly, there's no serial number on this bass?
16. The serial is usually on the neck plate for preEB rays.
17. Whats the serial number?
18. how about this? DigiTech BNX3 Multi Modelling Bass Workstation http://www.playrecord.net/effects/bass-fx/...tation.p27.html Edit: There's one for sale here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry295335
19. cheers Nik when I put it together, it took about 3 months for the neck and body to settle in but once they did, the bass turned into a bit of a tone monster. It needs a refret and its got dead strings on it at the moment too!
20. I would still like one or two lightweight stackable wedges.
21. how ON EARTH did you manage to get rid of all the fingerprints?!
22.
No, he's playing a rather nice early Stingray on Big Bottom by Spinal Tap.
Ah, I think it might be the same clip but the ol' grey matter ain't as reliable as it used to be... ...ooh is it 9pm already? Its time for horlicks...
23. Nik, put me down for 2 tickets to make up the difference... ...I'm feeling lucky.
24. I can't see the clip at work but if thats the one of Gilmour playing a black Jaydee fretless (Tony Franklins?) at the Secret Policeman's Ball (?), you don't know how long and hard I've searched for this clip. I think Gilmour is a fantastic fretless player, he's done a great job of transposing his blues feel. Just goes to show its less about the instrument and more about the musician. (PS: if it turns out the clip isn't of him on fretless I'll be deleting this post when I get home!)
