For what its worth, every HS stingray is actually HSS when you take the scratch plate off. There's an extra single coil under the scratch plate which is normally used as a hum canceller for the single coil.

Abe does it for me, I just like the guys approach and the way he fits incredible technique into the song so musically.
So a taller speaker with better off-axis response (midrange driver) and a small degree of tilt will be just as effective at getting the midrange to your ears but with fewer problems from directing so much sound at the ceiling.
I couldn't say until I'd tried one, in principal it might work but I couldn't say for sure. Principles don't actually take into account the sound of a drummers cymbals, having to compete with a vocal monitor being pointed directly at ones ears for most of the performance or having a sound man who turns up the sub bass to cater for room acoustics at one venue and turns it down at another. The GK wedge worked really well.
Wattage is not a measure of loudness!
But it might sound loud to him regardless of the wattage.
There may be a good reason why this would not work, but could you not feasibly have an angled stand made for a given cabinet to yield your preferred angle? Something that would ensure the amp was secure at whatever angle, e.g. a metal frame/brace, wooden frame with a right angle cut into it etc. I'm sure I'd seen someone with a GK combo and extension speaker together with an angled stand for both to direct their cones more at his eardrums so I'm sure such things already exist, but the wooden block/frame idea would be a lot cheaper. Mark
Sure and its a good suggestion, but its another bit of kit I have to carry if i did go that route.
CK, what sort of angle would you be after in order to get the cab pointing at your ears? w.r.t. floor...
I was OK with the GK wedge combo - whatever angle that was? 30 degrees?

from the looks of things the wedgehorn 10 seemed to fit the bill (*ahem*) better but what are the dimensions? I can compare it to my EBS 212.
I noticed yesterday that the new Eden nemesis combos are wedge shaped. Off-topic I know, but not the most off topic thing I noticed yesterday.
I'd prefer to keep the Genz Benz head to be honest. Maybe the BFM wedge is worth a look. Might have to find a friendly joiner to knock it up I guess, given I live in a flat.
Saxophones, mics and drum kits are just magnets for all sorts of idiots of all ages, especially drunk young men at posh weddings where they think that because the B&G have hired you, the band can therefore considered "staff" and they can do what they like....
In my experience, its generally been blue collar crowds mainly attracted to the mics and the congas. We had one twat last week who came up while the percussionist was actually playing mid song and he started playing the congas as well (although that instance wasn't a blue collar gig). They all start off on their best behaviour but once they get a bit of booze in them, their social judgement goes out the window. We've had kids on the drum kit in the past as well but an uncle or something was there supervising them. The drummer is normally a fairly placid chap so tolerated it well.

This is a bit insane but Phil_the_bassist has offered me the use of two extra bass stands. So potentially I could be bringing the following: Spector 6 Smith 5 Smith 5 fretless Celinder P Celinder J MM Stingray First time I haven't bought any graphite necked instruments Trace V8, GB Shuttle 6 and EBS Neo212 still coming. -
Can we please get back on topic? Wedges?
-
FWIW, I've just moved this to Site News so it appears on the RSS feed.

there's lovely! I think mine might look fairly similar in terms of finish.
Would not a BFM designed cab fit the bill? I think he's designed a couple of wedges.
I'm certainly open to that possibility if there's something that fits the bill.
That's a clear sign of a cab with insufficient bracing. I'm finding interesting to note that I'm doing about everything possible to make a cab as light as possible, and it's quite complicated, yet there are a few other makers producing equally light cabs without all the clever stuff to stop the cab resonating. A well-braced cab should stand up perfectly well with 3 points of contact.
With all due respect even a well braced lightweight cab will vibrate because of cone movement. The bracing just means the whole box will vibrate instead of the walls, and thats whats happening with the EBS cab when its tipped on its back edge. Anyways, I had another look on t'interweb and hmmmmm... http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_n...artner_id=87171

Oh for gods buy the Strategy 400, its a bargain and it'll get you off my back about selling mine
aye it is, i'd rather not pull out half the power amp valves it's not so good for the transformer
Its not going to hurt the transformer . Valve amps are pretty robust. All it will do is make the amp ever so slightly less warm but not to a noticable degree for most people.
If you need the cab tilted back at 45 degrees or more then you could achieve that with a threaded rod with rubber foot that screws into a socket in the back of the cab.
I think it would need supports on both sides or a frame. Once a lightweight cab starts vibrating with mids and lows its very easy for it to tilt either way. I've had a cab fall completely on its back even though its been propped up against a wall because its been shaking so much while tilted on its back edge that its started walking. I've had a look at amp stands but I'd rather not take yet another piece of kit with me to a gig. With the bass(es), speaker, kit bag and stage clobber, it's quite enough for one trip.
I thought I mustn't have explained that clearly enough. If your mids are coming from a 12" woofer than you probably need to be within about 10 degrees of on-axis to get all of them. If your mids are coming from a 6.5" woofer then you could be 30 deg off and still hear them well. The dispersion is inversely proportional to the size of the source.
That ties in much more closely to my on stage experience. My mids are currently coming from a 12" cone. BTW, my GK wedge combo put out superb lows. So FWIW I have been satisfied with a wedge cab already.
