hi Kev, I can't tell you what the factory wall wart is rated at but my UB-1 runs fine off a 9v 500ma supply from Maplins
  2. looks schmexual. I love how you caught the unwrapping and first-case-opening event on camera! lol
  3. hi kev, thats quite a beast of a bass by the sounds of it. Welcome aboard
  4. well its enough to make me think about switching to Virgin. Although they've done a good job of layering their fees as well. What are the alternatives to BT phone lines?
  5. It feels like to me they're trying to maintain their profit margins in the face of a steady fall off in trade since the romance with Ebay ended a few years ago. Did everyone realise that Ebay also owns Gumtree? I think they've been quite cunning in limiting the functionality of that site so that its a load of extra faff to look for ads placed in other local centres (while also marketing this as a strong point). That way Gumtree doesn't get in the way of Ebay which, I guess, they're setting a price point for on the basis of providing national and international exposure. I really don't understand their strategy, it sounds to me like they've already accepted there's an unavoidable decline in the use of Ebay and there's nothing to lose in terms of how much they charge and how they go about charging. In the meantime they also seem to be trying to take advantage of their position using paypal to control and charge for the financial transactions, using Gumtree to manage the demand for freeads, inventing additional categories for ebay fees to make the fee estimating process more hidden in order to take advantage of sellers optimistic guess-timates.) Ultimately whatever happens to Ebay I guess they'll still be left with a brand name and who knows one day we might be riding in Ebay trains, renting Ebay cars, getting Ebay insurance or booking a holiday with Ebay Travel Agents. They could become as ubiquitous as Tescos. As a slight diversion: Anyone noticed on their BT Phone bill a £4.95 payment processing charge? I just noticed it this on this quarters bill. I really want to call them up and just confirm that this means they're charging me for taking my money off me?! Like, did they ask me for permission? What benefits do I get for my money as a consumer?

  8.
TuTu - has Marcus Miller on bass and I believe he also produced it.
+1, first CD i ever purchased! It makes for a great hifi demo cd too.
  9. Oop looks like GAS struck Taystie baaaaad?
  10.
Looks as though it might have had newer pickups fitted to it at some stage?
Well spotted Sir or have you been reading the Alembic forum? The ceramic magnets in the old pickups had apparently weakened to the point where it made sense to get them replaced.
  11.
So, any requests for the next project?
How about a Barefaced Alien active cab?
  12.
Nice bass, if only I had the cash or a Smith I didnt want. Bumptastic!
A Smith ma'am? Don't be a stranger!

  15.
One day Kiwi, one day ill have that amp!
If you start saving now then mate, who knows?
  16. I'll be using one on top of an Ashdown ABM810 at our New Years gig!
  17. oh blimey another one I can contribute to... I might try and get DrPepperUK back and see if he can post some of his amps. I believe he's still got a hexavalve...
  18. I love the use of suspended chords and inversions. I have a feeling that one will eventually make its way onto a few bass playing syllabuses.
  19.
You're getting some nice gigs there Kiwi!
Yeah mate, the best is coming up though. A gig for Tony and Cherie Blair's hairdresser in mid-Sept at his Civil Partnership ceremony, and we'll be sharing the stage with Danny-from-McFly and Barbara I-Know-Him-So-Well Dickinson. We'll be trying to get President Blair on stage with us if we can. We've hit the big time now. lol Bassninja - we did a gig in Bosham 6 weeks ago on the shore front at a wedding. Next week is Sevenoaks I think and then its a well earned overseas holiday for me, considering the otherwise fairly sh*t year I've had on the job front.
  20.
I did actually have a contact number for Ashley and actually spoke to him on the phone around 10 years ago - Ian Middleton and I set up a tribute website for the basses and I mentioned this to Ashley and he was very concerned by this as he thought we were trying to make money out of him!!!! I mentioned that the site was not in any way shape or form a money making venture and was simply a place to look at pictures and find out more about the range, a kind of resource page in actual fact. He calmed down a bit and then became quite touched that we'd done this! I no longer have his number but I'm sure contacting Gibson might be an idea. There was a rumour some time ago that he was going to resurrect Pangborn but as yet, I've not heard anything else! Be great if he did - they really are special basses!
I heard back from Gibson today re: Ashley. Apparently there is noone by the name of Ashley Pangborn working for them at the moment. However they did offer to ask around and see if anyone knew of him and has some contact details.
  21.
If the top is in the first half they certainly do
Ah well, just for the sake of any doubt ... I hope to use it on the TV spot that my band *might* be doing in October. But its up to Jon to finish it in time.
  22.
How do you mean? From what it looks the whole neck curves to the right after the 5th fret.
Does the curve look consistent on both sides of the neck when you sight down it? Is the curve (such as it is) a smooth one?
  23. If you sight down the neck across the top of the frets, can you see any variation in how the frets line up with one another? Is the neck warped? If so, it might be covered by a guarantee.
  24. Out of pure curiosity more than serious interest, are you offering cash adjustment if you find the right Smith? FWIW, Mark King sold his a while ago.
  25. I came so close to buying one of Geezers jaydee prototypes a few years back. But my conscience got the better of me.
