  1. Only 4 double basses, surely you must have room for some more... I wish I had 4
  2. I hope you got a refund from the luthier that did the job in the first place... failing that, I expect they are doing the re-fix for free & really should loan you an instrument FOC!
  3. I think thats a really excessive amount of time, & personally, I'd go round & view the bass & the progress & ask for an explanation. It sounds like he's also going to charge you an arm & a leg! At the end of the day, its your bass, remember that! I can recommend Henry Norton above, having had work carried out by him recently, so if it was me, I'd get the bass & take it to him! Good luck
  4. A friend of mine has a Chubby Jackson! He won't part with it though... Unfortunately!
  5. Don't you have one in your gear list, or do you want a 2nd one?
  6. South Wales... that's no problem, come on a road trip. I can guarantee you'll find it well worthwhile & we can do a very long lesson if you like. It's not the distance you need to travel that's important, it's what you get out of the journey!
  7. Hiya, i may be interested in the 5 string double bass, so could you please PM me some details about it. Thanks
  8. Awesome... Just can't get it in the car with a Double Bass! good luck!
  9. Very versatile & experienced active Double Bass player & teacher gives one on one tuition, from beginners to advanced players. I teach styles based on 1940's & 1950's Double Bass playing & techniques, & teach with lots of patience! Slap bass (single, double & triple slapping style as well as correct pulling & timing techniques are taught as well as an approach to learning songs & song formation. I also teach how to avoid bad positioning & playing styles & postures. I am also happy to give advice on set ups, repairs, strings & pick-ups as necessary. If anyone would like to contact me about lessons, or for more information, please feel free to send me a PM. Thanks & Regards, Markus
  10. Nothing beats the feel of a Double Bass & the sound it gives you is just warming when played correctly. I would however suggest something with a bit of mojo to it!
  11. Hi, I may be interested & am free, but what is the music please? Thanks
  12. P.S. That's not my photo, it's Marshall Lytle from The Comets playing one of my basses!
  13. Hi Daf, I'm a Rockabilly Double Bass player, been playing double bass for over 15 years on the Rockin' scene, which I'm heavily involved with :-) How do you fancy a Rockabilly trying these strings out, coz I'd love to! Hope to hear back from you, Regards, Markus
  14. She's a 1958 Futurama Paul, & about as rare as "Rockin' horse s**t" Fully working & nice & safe in a hand built flight case. Shame you can't restore yours to full glory, now that would be a cool project!
  15. Damn shame about this, I would have had it if it hadn't been altered, would have sat nicely with my 1950's stick bass!
  16. Hiya, I'm in Stevenage & teach & play only Double Bass & slap is my speciality, so if you're still interested in learning, let me know, Markus
  17. Hiya, I'm a Double Bass teacher located in Stevenage, Herts if that is of any use to you. Thanks, Markus

  19. Hiya, I've got a brand new unused set of Astrea Flat Chrome, Steel wound strings that I have never used, still in their packaging. These should be perfect for you & I will send them for £40, including P&P to you if you're interested. You can Paypal me the money if you want so it's instant.
  20. Absolutely, experience does indeed tell me that the Cutaways are indeed quieter as there is less body size for the sound to travel round. Also, the cutaway is there to make it easier to travel up the neck for high note playing. The still look cool! Anyone got one they don't want? If so, message me!
  21. What you're missing is that they look Fu**ing cool!!! Also yes, the rockabilly's really love em, but best if they're an original one & not a Chinese one with a big thick neck, just like the ones on the net!
  22. Hiya, I know it's a reasonable distance, but if you wanted to travel up to Hertfordshire, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed, as I'm a very experienced in Slap Technique. Feel free to drop me a message, Markus
  23. Well, I'm 5 7 & I don't have a problem with a 3/4, & I've got small hands too. If you want a trip to Herts for some lessons on a great bass & some knowledge about the ins & outs of the instrument, feel free to message me!
