1. Although I don't currently use straplocks on my bass, I have used Schallers before and they are excellent. If I were going to use any it would be those.
 2.
Aren't there now two Wishbone Ash ?
Er....yes but that is a touchy subject with fans! There is Wishbone Ash fronted by Andy Powell and there's Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash. I prefer the latter and they are friends of mine.

 4.
Hi Everyone, Just thought I would say hello, from not so sunny Stoke On Trent. I am 54 and just setting out on the bass.........well they say its never too late to learn. I was given an old Honer bass and seem to be enjoying myself. I would like peoples opinions as to getting myself a decent bass. My main music preference is Yes and in particular Chris Squire. As I cannot afford a 4001 Ricky, what bass and amp on a reasonable budget could achieve something like the sound of a Ricky. I realise that the strings are also a factor. We thats it,I look forward to getting more info through the forum but in the meantime any imput would be appreciated Cheers John
Hello John and welcome to the forum. Well I guess only a Rick is going to sound like a Rick but there are plenty of copy Ricks out there that might fit the bill. Chris Squire is my fave bass player and I play a Rick so I know where you are coming from. Check out the this site you may find a bargain. I guess a lot depends on your budget as well....good luck!
 5.
Welcome to the forum. I was in the same Wishbone Ash tribute band after you left. If you see John or Chris please say hi from me, not seen them in ages.
Hi John, thanks for the welcome. Nice to see you on here. John actually became a drummer for my current band! but he left 2 or 3 weeks ago and i've not seen or spoke to him since the back end of June when we played a gig at Colwyn Bay FC. Chris came to watch us play a few months ago but i've not seen him since and to be honest we never saw much of each other even when I was in the WA tribute band. If I do see either of them i'll pass your wishes on. Just out of curiosity what are you doing now band-wise? and didn't you join MTWA forum? are you still on that?
 6.
Budgie? Was he the drummer with Siouxsie & The Banshhees??
I dunno about that, one of my old mates used to roadie for them quite a few years ago.
 7.
I bloody love Budgie. Bloody love 'em.
Great! Good for you!
 8. Welcome Ray, any fan of Wishbone Ash is fine by me!
 9. I always use Rotosound 105/45 on my Rick without any problems. Martin Turner from Wishbone Ash uses a gauge higher (I know this because he borrowed my bass and put slightly heavier strings on it for recording (and this had no detrimental effect at all). Ricks have a dual truss rod so if they are adjusted correctly you should not have an issue. If you are going to use heavy strings I would suggest getting it set-up by someone who knows what he is doing, ie: a professional.
 10. I used to enjoy playing Handy by Wishbone Ash when I was doing a Wishbone Ash tribute band 3 or 4 years ago. By the way I love Forget Me Knots bass line!
 11. Lovely looking bass! good luck with the sale.
 12.
You won't like this, but I've never heard of Budgie! I'll check them out and also look out for your gigs
This does not suprise me! They were never a "big" band even at their peak, although all the Budgie gigs i've been to were very well attended. They must be one of the most underrated rock bands on the planet. To be fair, they are not a patch now on what they once were in the 70's IMO. If you gel Black Sabbath and Rush, with the Beatles you'll come up with Budgie! Try this Old Grey Whistle Test clip from 1975 for starters featuring my hero on guitar Tony Bourge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkEzheXSbM4...feature=related
 13. Great thread, there's some fine bands on here! I'm Tony and my band is called In For the Kill. We are a Budgie tribute band. (classic rock) I reckon best gigs so far were Intake leisure, Mansfield (gig for Budgie fans and included ex-Budgie guitarist Simon Lees), Rock and Bike Festival (2009) and Rock City Nottingham. Website: http://inforthekill.webeden.co.uk/ Dodgy Youtube clip! (last track, throat was shot! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0bkj9GRrM4
 14. I actually work for UPS at East Midlands Airport so we get instruments through the hub all the time. I would suggest a strong case or better still, a flight case. To be fair we do try too handle packages with care, fragile or not. I had to load 24 boxes of Suhr guitars into an air can on Sunday and believe me I was very careful with them! I'll tell you what though, you wouldn't believe the way some things are packed that we have to handle.
 15.
I had a bass lesson years ago from Simon Lees. Weird.
Yeah a BASS lesson is strange given his 6 string talents. I've actually played with him when we played at Budgie fan club "get together" at the Intake Leisure in Mansfield. He is in a band called called Anubis and they kindly opened for us. It was actually their first gig, and Simon came on at the end and had a jam with us, (played the solo's and sang). I did watch him with Budgie once as well, he's nice bloke, and a great guitar player. Here is the track we jammed it was great fun! 16. Welcome. Great to see you here, nice gear!
 17. Hi welcome to Basschat
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICKENBACKER-301...=item27bd25aae7
Definitely NOT a Rick case, it looks more like those 1970's "one case fits all" jobbies
 19.
I see a pile of junk with chrome on. Could be a Rick.
WHAT ?
 20. Hi nice to have you here.....wot no Vigier?
 21. Great to hear that he has been reunited with his guitar and the culprits caught! hanging is far too good for them!
 22. This "relic" stuff is utter nonsense to me. You just can't beat a bass/guitar that has natural wear and tear. IF you must down that road (because you can't get or afford the real thing), at least buy something that really does look the part because most of them don't look "right" to me. This guy is the best at what he does nothing else comes close IMO not even Fender custom shop stuff etc....... http://www.revelatorguitarworks.com/index2.html Which reminds me, I once saw a Jap 57 strat in sunburst in a shop, the owner had taken a sander to it and removed the paint from the forearm area only....it was the worst bit of relicing i've ever seen! and he wanted £700 for it! what a joke...
 23. Now I wouldn't have a clue playing a 6 string bass, I have enough problems with 4 but this is one of the nicest basses i've ever seen.
