My bass 'lost weekend' only lasted 17 years so you trump me with 22. Welcome back to the fold brother.
Twin Peaks is one of my all time favourites.. Angelo Badalamenti, I believe? and just to keep the David Lynch theme going, Blue Velvet..
For Balamenti/Lynch, how about 'The Straight Story' - guaranteed to relax you to coma level. Fits the film perfectly and works as an album on its own.

For the one wedding booking we have had (which fell through at the last minute due to illness) the groom requested Iron Maiden's "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter"! We'd have done it too, although the bride's father was fairly high up in the local constabulary so maybe it wouldn't have been the cleverest idea.
My first bass was a Weston Thunder II (Mark 3). I've been on the lookout for one since I got back into bass but they seem to be pretty thin on the ground. However, if I'm not mistaken, you have one hanging on your wall! Sweet! nice collection elom
Yeehaw! Just bagged one on fleabay - first one I've seen on there in 18 months of looking so I am well chuffed. I know that I don't really need another bass but I couldn't let this one get away. Even has the proper Westone case too - can't wait for it to arrive now.

I have 4 basses ranging from a Harley Benton to a Hugh Manson but the one that is really 'my bass' is my Fender Performer. The sound is quite similar to a Jazz in many respects but what make its it such a joy to play is the pencil thin neck. Throw in the unique styling and the rarity factor (come on, how many have you seen?) and it just seems to make it a bit special. It's old and battered but that just adds character and means I'm not afraid to fling it about a bit! Other basses will come and go but I think this one is here for as long as I play bass. elom
2. Very worrying, 54db is pretty quiet. It's going to be difficult to prove that the limiter was triggered by you and not a passing vole breaking wind...
I'm in a foul mood this evening and that made me laugh, so thank you!

If you want tabs then I would suggest http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ Obviously the standard varies but the rating system makes it pretty easy to spot the better ones.

If you don't mind in-ear headphones then I would recommend the V-Moda Bass Frequency Headphones. I got a pair last weekend and they are fantastic - loads of bottom end. I originally got them for my ipod but now use them to practice through - way better than the no-name rubbish I was using before. Recommended
I need a refinish job on a bass that will involve a strip (ooer). However, I've got into nitro finishes in a big way recently and want to find someone who can do a good nitro finish. Anyone ever had any work done at Mansons in Exeter? I'm based in London... Nick
Can't be specific on finishes but this is my local shop and I have had nothing but excellent experiences with them. elom

Why not just reply and tell him that you've been in floods of tears ever since getting his email and that you have now given up the bass? Might make him think twice about sending unsolicited criticism next time.

I feel compelled to add to this thread because a) I've hardly posted in recent months and I've just read 16 pages of this stuff so I need to post to validate the last 40 minutes of my life! I don't pretend to be a great musician. I'm not ground breaking or original. However I'm not in my band (covers) to make art but, primarily, to have fun. For the most part I do and I really like 90% of the songs we do. So my artistic integrity is probably pretty low in many people's eyes but my I'm quite happy with my personal integrity so I can live with that! be happy, elom
Ain't no band mates to back me up I'm afraid...got to go solo for this gig. Just me, my new baby, (RKS ABass), and a backing track and the glare of the spotlight...eeekss!!
Well by now you will have done your peformance, so how did it go? I posted a very similar thread about a year ago so I sort of know how you feel. That was a band situation though, your solo performance seems much more daunting. In fact even though I've probably notched up 40 or so gigs since that post I'd still think twice about going up there on my own! However it went, full respect to you for doing it.
Linus, I have the MAG300 210 combo, which is the same head, but 2x10's instead. I bought a 115 extension cab (the speaker in the combo you mention?) I have rarely used the 115. I find the 2x10 is fine for the pub gigs I play (up to around 300 people?), and I never have to turn it up full, or overdrive it. Although we mainly do blues/soul, we used to regularly do 4-band nights on the indie scene in London, so all sorts of emo/punk/thrash bands would use it as the night wore on. I have had no complaints or problems with it, other than losing one of the control knobs.
Exactly the same experience for me (even down to losing one of the knobs, which Ashdown replaced). I have never had to use the extension cab for a gig yet, in fact I've been thinking about selling it. I bought both 2nd hand through these forums about 12 months ago - paid £150 for the combo and £100 for the cab. Definitely try and go 2nd hand if you can. I recently tried out a Markbass combo and it was in a completely different league. However I can't justify spending that sort of money and for the gigs I do (and my standard of play!) the Ashdown MAG stuff is just fine.

Yes, the 'rules' for this were that if you've not read it in a month then you must pass it on anyway. Where is it currently? (ooh, don't I sound officious! )
