1. The normally have a couple in stock at Mansons. They just look stunning but I've avoided trying them in case they play as good as they look... http://www.mansons.co.uk/shopping/categori...a-bass-guitars/
2. I gigged my Thunder II last night for the first time since 1987. It sounded great.
3. Pulled a muscle in my shoulder this afternoon and thought that I'd have to cancel tonight's gig. However eating Ibuprofen like Smarties seemed to do the trick though I couldn't fling myself about as much as normal. Nice pub - playing to about 6 people at the start but rammed by the end. 40 songs tonight so a bit longer than usual but we were nice and tight and it was just one of those evenings when you enjoy being in a band!
4. I recently purchased the Sony MDR-XB300 which I'm very happy with. Cost £35 from the Sony Centre but also available in Argos. They also make an XB500 & XB700 but as the people in the shop wouldn't actually let me try them out I didn't buy them! Me - "I'm looking for some quality headphones for playing bass guitar through" Sony Centre - "You'll be wanting our XB Xtra Bass range then sir. Have a listen to these XB300s" Me - "Very good, I like those. Can I try the other two please?" SC - "We don't have any out of the packet" Me - "Well could you open a packet please" SC - "No, because then we wouldn't be able to sell them" Me - "Well your not going to sell me a £100 pair of headphones unless I can try them first" SC - "Sorry Sir" Who knows, maybe the XB700s are worth it but I'm happy with my 300s
5.
Considering the number of members from Devon and Cornwall we may have to consider convening a bass bash you know.
Aye, we keep saying that! Welcome btw.
6. I liked it. Insane has got a nice 80s/new romantic feel to it. Good production and strong distinctive vocals. Sheila Tequila is just a brilliant name for a song! In fact Soviet Disco is a pretty good name too. Both tracks sound great but would possibly benefit by being a little shorter. If this is the first stuff that you've recorded together then I'd say that bodes well for the future.
7. I remember my younger sister getting to go to a gig before I did which always seemed incredibly unfair. I can remember my dad standing in the hall saying "Are you sure you don't want to come? I can easy get another ticket." I remember waivering but then answering No, conscious then at the age of 13 that I did not want to have as my first gig.... Bucks Fizz! 27 years later I still think that was a wise decision. My actual first gig was Julian Cope in '86
8. Hello! Sorry, I've been away for a while. Will post properly about my bass in a few days but suffice to say that she is just superb. Sounds as good as she looks and she looks stunning! More to follow, elom
9. Bought a Hohner B2A from James. A pleasure to deal with - honest and straightforward.
10.
+1 I bet it sounds fantastic too! Didn't they do a Manson Kestrel model about that time as well...?
They surely did - just sold mine. Lovely bass.
11.
Yeah, its all designed to fit the users body better, the luthier is very big on ergonomics in everything he builds, file handles, pretty much anything, its all designed to be comfortable to use and hold. Zach
Yes, one of the things we did in the initial design session was discuss where I normally wear the bass as obviously the ergonomics differ. From some of the photos the bass does look quite thick but I've spoken with Ben about this and it is only 5cm at the thickest point so I think it must be the camera angle. Not much longer now...
12. And the blue stain looks just as good as I hoped it would!
13.
I have been following Elom's custom bass build, by Ben of Crimson Guitars, with keen interest. It'll be very interesting to see how it turns out. There's a thread somewhere in the build forum.
Yeah, I've been following that thread too... This is also a 40th birthday bass (though sadly not one that my wife is paying for) and so far it's all going great. One thing worth mentioning is that I was very clear in terms of when I wanted the bass to be ready by and that has all gone according to plan. Would have hated to have not had my birthday bass in time for my birthday! New pics added today If you do want to go custom its worth taking your time and talking to a few luthiers, draw up a shortlist etc.
14. Getting close now. I pick her up a week on Friday...

17. I was there and enjoyed it. There was enough bass to make it worth the effort for me to be fair. I think an independent luthier would be well received and you'll get your name out there for sure.
18. The Wonderstuff are back together? How did I miss this? I love the Wonderstuff! Erm, they are still good aren't they?
19. I'm struggling to find a way to describe this so I'll just keep typing and hope that some sort of sense emerges! On my performer the tone pot has a kind of 'click' at the mid-point. So if I'm turning it from min to max, halfway through there I feel a sort of click which tells me that is the middle. I'm not doing a good job of describing this and my other basses have not had it. I quite like it, its not a big deal but in helps to give me my barings, especially when playing live. Is this a common feature and does it have a name? Or do you not have the slightest clue what I am blathering on about?! Thanks elom
20. I use a LMII with a Berg AE112 and my intention was to add in the 2nd cab at a later date. I haven't needed to and I've had this rig for about a year now playing pubs and the occasional function. If I ever did need more I could always DI it but I've not had to do that either. One AE112 operating close to the max puts out a hell of a volume. I'd say go for the Berg and if you find yourself having to DI often then that's your cue to add a second. However I think you'll be surprised at home much you can get done with just the one. +1 for Bass Direct though, just the sort of company you want to deal with
21.
I have been playing bass for about 15 years now, and get worser every day.

I currently own many more basses than I deserve, but its only to compensate having to get up every morning to go to the office.
A kindred spirit! You'll be very welcome here.
22. Top man OTPJ. Makes me proud to come from Grimsby!
23. When clearing out my Gran's loft recently (she hadn't died, just moved) I found a Sinclair ZX-80 and an Oric Atmos, which I guess I must have put up there about 25 years ago!
