1. I wouldn't criticise someone with pots of cash for buying a £5k bass just like I wouldn't criticise someone without much money for buying a £100 bass. If you don't need the money for more important stuff and you enjoy it then go for it.
2.
I'm wanting a nice 5 or 6 string fretless, but I doubt there'll be any from '71.
http://www.toruku.jp/yokono/en/gallery/Pollmann/ There you go mate, 1971 5 string fretless
3.
Yeah, I have a similar problem... I can't really think of anything from '86 that would be a keeper.
How ironic, the basses I do have are mid 80s. Just realised that the Gibson Les Paul bass was launched in 69 and that just happens to be my favourite shape.... Did I mention that I got a new credit card last week?
4. I have got nice gear that I have acquired over the past few years, all paid for from gigging. Whilst there is of course tons of stuff that I want there is nothing to be honest that I need. Then I read about a guy who's gone and bought a bass that was made the same year that he was, just because. This strikes me as an excellent idea - though I know that really I just like it because it gives me a 'reason' to buy another bass. Anyway, I shall try and resist but have any of you got year of origin basses? elom (no harm in doing an ebay search for 'bass 1969' though... )
5. It's a big trek from Devon but I'd give it a try. Interestingly only round the corner from my preferred luthier in Henstridge!
6. We use Google calendar - except that we dont. We were supposed to but what actually happens is that everyone emails or texts me the dates that they can't do and I update this on the calendar and on a A4 sheet calendar that I keep in my wallet. This only works though because I'm the one who does all the gig booking. Whatever method you use, just make sure everyone understands it and follows it. Good luck with that!
7.
I don't want this to come across all Norman Tebbit
8. Best of luck with this - hope it's a big success!

Knobs!

It may not be what you are looking for but it's just an excuse to say http://www.endlessknobbing.com/
10. Sometimes if I'm feeling wild I may look up from the fretboard. Only for a few seconds though, the rush can make you quite dizzy.
11. I like that. I think I'm just a contrary old bugger coz I seem to like anything that doesn't look like a P or J!
12.
Mmm. I've seen Muse twice live and they didnt have a keyboard player then, mind you that was b4 the last 2 albums.I was amazed,Matt did it all!Great bunch of musicians. Agree with the other comments but good luck with Mus ic,Muse do Rock live.
Saw them do the homecoming shows in Teignmouth and they had someone then. Mind you he was all dressed in black and stood at the back and the spotlights didn't go near him! I read somewhere that they started using keyboards after Black Holes because the complexity of the arrangements was becoming too hard to replicate live without one. Just checked Wikipedia and apparently he's called Morgan Nicholls - bass player too by the looks of things, filled in for Chris W when he broke his wrist! Our drummer got to play with Chris Wolstenholme about a year ago at the Devon Arms Jam Night. He had asked me if I wanted to go but I didn't fancy it...
13. be a shame if this has been lost in the post. still I suppose 2 plus years of doing the rounds aint bad. I just hope that Mr Pratt doesn't come after me for lost royalties!
14. It wasn't hearing some killer bassline that sucked me in. I saw The Cult perform She Sells Sanctuary on TV as a teenager and I watched what the bass player was doing and thought "that looks easy".
15. Nice one, best of luck with the band. Live Muse have a keyboard player which might be something to consider in lieu of the backing tracks.
16.
Westone's have a loyal following, and rightly so... mine was a superb bass and yours looks absolutely mint. Thunder A1's can go for upto £300 ish if mint. Don't know your mode mind, but if eBaying it I'd put a good reserve of £300 - £350. This website might help: http://www.westone.info/ I believe the guy who bought mine runs this site I think.
I would say that £300 - £350 is very ambitious. The Concorde doesn't have the same following as the Thunder and you can pick up Thunders for a lot less than £300. It's a good looking bass from a well-regarded manufacturer, it should be worth more but I think he'll be doing well to get £100 to be honest. Hope I'm wrong.
17. Disclaimer: My knowledge of reggae is almost nil. Always worth checking out something like the iTunes playlists for this sort of stuff - i.e. popular songs that a non-specialist audience might get. For what it's worth I love "To Love Somebody" by Bunny Rugs & Upsetters - was so disappointed when I later learnt it was a BeeGees song!
18.
Are you sure its not one of Katy Prices sleeping bags.
lmfao
19.
I have a Status Streamline / Korg Pandora / Sennheiser HD215 set-up (plus an MP3) player for times like this (and for taking on holiday!)
Ooh, those Streamlines look nice, definately trumps a Hohner B2A!
20. At Xmas time it can be easy to become separated from your bass. Perhaps you are staying with family, or your spouse's family? Perhaps your practice room now has an elderly aunt, mother-in-law, or your brother's entire family sleeping in it? You need a survival kit. A small package which can be discreetly stored so as to not alert too much suspicion. Here is one I made earlier: On the other hand you could just take all your basses, a 4x10 and blast them out of the house for an hour or two! Merry Xmas
21. I think that's probably the nicest looking acoustic I've ever seen. Damn, there are some fine basses up for sale on here at the moment!
22. It's a lot of dosh but a fine looking instrument. I recall it got a good write-up in BGM. What are all those controls though?
23.
I assume you asked for this specific bass as its not the normal bass a person would be given as a gift of plus the hefty price tag would put off even the most devoted spouse
I got a Banksy T-shirt and some gloves. I was quite happy with that until now...
24. Wow, that is quite something. Really beautiful.
