1.
The original bass player from The Hollies played one of those,
He still plays it but it seems to play out of tune or perhaps that was Eric Haydock not hitting the right notes. Most noticeable on Hollies tunes actually.
2. My first bass as well in 1965. Bought off a mate for £5. Red and with a Burns pickup fitted but not very well. The pickup being thicker than the bass, someone had made a bowl shaped circle of wood and glued it to the back to cover up the new pickup. Do I remember it fondly? No, it was a heap of c**p. Also for £5, I bought an amp and cab from him. A linear 30 with a home made 2x12 but with only one of the 12s working.

4. Could form a band just doing the hits of dead people.
5. The sound that you hear while playing is not the sound that everyone else hears, it only when you become 'everyone else' that you actually hear the sound that your gear makes. I'm sure that the sound that the guy who bought your cabs made is the sound that you make. It's like singing. The sound in your ears is nothing like the sound in another persons ears. It's only when you hear your singing, or even just your normal voice recorded, that you hear what others hear and that is normally frightening the first time.
6. I use a Shure wh30 headset mic. More than happy with it.
7. I'm selling a pair of Electrovoice Force i 12 inch monitors / P.A. speakers. 12 inch speaker plus horn. They work brilliantly as monitors and P.A. The EV spec sheet can be found here, www.electrovoice.com/downloadfile.php?i=2264 Full review here, http://www.performin...es/evforcei.htm These were over £500 a pair new and I'm asking £169 the pair. 8 ohms each cab and condition is quite reasonable. Collection preferred but I'm more than happy to post at cost. Any question please get in touch.
8. I know I shoudn't have but I couldn't help myself, I just had to see for my self!
9. Improvements stop as soon as you're happy with your bass.
10. Why indeed? The OP was asking about the QSC system which while the tops have received rave reviews, the subs have been found to be sadly lacking in the oomph department. The Mackies', to my ears, are not a pleasant sounding speaker being incredibly harsh and lacking mid and projection and the Yamaha's are not considered very 'pro audio' by many, but certainly seem to be accepted on the cabaret circuit. Why Barefaced though? I haven't tried or even heard them but I have owned barefaced bass cabs and been incredibly impressed and would fully expect the Barefaced P.A. department to be just as impressive, well worth a listen at the least and there's not a lot of difference in price between the QSC and Barefaced systems. Do I use any of the above, the answer is no. I decided to go the DIY route, bought Bill's plans and and made a pair of Otop12s and a pair of T39s and I couldn't be happier. I believe that I probably use a better sounding system than any of the above and if the OP was so inclined I would suggest that he follow this route as well.
11. I'd have a look at the new barefaced powered PA cabs. If I had the means, that's the route I'd likely take.
12. I have to admit that I'm still impressed with my rumble 500 head. It still far exceeds my initial expectations.
13. I have found that the pickup position plays possibly a more important role than the actual pickups themselves. Might be worth experimenting with that before committing to a specific pickup.
14. Go wireless and have a wander and hear the sound for yourself.
15. I use a pair of Phil Jones Bass over ear headphones. I am quite impressed with them.
16. Ah, the memories come flying back. Had one of those in about 1970 along with 2 x Marshall 1 x 18 cabs.
17. I woke up this morning.................
