Fantastic - retrorama! Takes me back. I'm pretty sure that these would be PA columns - WEM seemed to have most of the market for this kind of thing in the UK in the '60s and early '70s - you'll see WEM columns at almost all the big outdoor gigs of the period. The Fenders appear to be in fabulous condition. I've no need and no space, but these columns should be in some kind of rock'n'roll museum for all to marvel at - incredibly cool.
Thanks Loz, cool is definitely the word for these, if I didnt need the space, they certainly wouldnt be going anywhere.
I agree, BUT there are exceptions if your good lady is some kind of super woman who doesn't mind you taking the piss a bit!
This, that's why I quit, because I don't have a wife who liked me taking the piss, and I kinda grew out of it, and was happy to spend more time with the family of course. It wasn't just the gigs, it was the rehearsals, writing time etc. If I was just in a covers band that didnt need much practice then it may have been different, but I wasn't. Enjoyed it immensely while I was doing it, but I don't miss it.

I bought these with the intention of sitting them either side of a silverface bassman head and cab, and displaying them, and playing with my two psych, '68 Tele basses. Reality is, that it probably won't happen!! These are late 60's (Believed to be '68), pair of Fender columns. Each contains 4x8" speakers. Very cool pair, rare in the UK. Black tolex, with cream tolex inner panels. The two 60's Fender badges are worth £50 each!! The last pair I saw in the UK sold for £400. I'm looking for £[s]200[/s] £175 collected. I've never even plugged them in......I'm sure they work?? Offers welcome, but I won't give 'em away. Click on pics to enlarge. Cheers Rick.
No if you use Photobucket the image is pulled from Photobucket's servers when someone views the thread that it's posted on. Much better for Basschat's server space and much better for the reader of the post since the images come in at the full width that the browser window allows instead of thumbnails that need to be clicked to be viewed properly.
Thanks for that, I'll have a clean up later, and get a photobucket account set up. -
You could try remotely hosting the pictures on Photobucket, then instead of uploading them to here, just use the 'Image' tool, enter the URL of the image, and voila! Lots more photos
But the image is still uploaded isn't it? Doesnt it use your allocation if its copied via Photobucket?, only from your desktop? -
Those Enfield Avenger bases look flippin' horrible.
They are horrific, what is that pickup about (Even spinal tap wouldnt play that!), I thought they'd be some attempt at entry level bass, then saw the price £2650!!!!. BGM said in the review that a negative was the price (Ya think?), but its cheaper than buying a Precision, a Stingray or a Jazz??? What?, I can buy excellent examples of all three of those basses cheaper than the Enfield. I thought the article (And the basses) was an April fools joke, but I'm a month late!
After all Public transport and ferry sort takes the chance of collection beyond the realms of reasonable purchase.
That's what I meant.
The only thing I would do now is if an item is going low and is collection only.
That must narrow your purchase options somewhat!!
Thanks BIGd - as I said pricing suggestions are more than welcome. I did buy it 2nd hand so will add that to the OP to make it clear. I was hoping 9 years worth of inflation would be my loss on this bass but perhaps that's too optimistic
Unless vintage, guitar gear deppreciates generally, especially items that are still available. I think asking the same price for something you bought 9 years ago is going some, leave the price as is, state that offers considered (Which this thread has probably done now anyway) and see what people say. Ultimately, the market will dicatet somethings value. I think you should be looking at 9 years of deppreciation, not inflation!!
Pretty much this I will put in my watch list. But the majority of stuff I watch that has a reserve has a stupid reserve that would be near the price of calling thomanns for a new one. Or a reserve the same as the BIN or within a few quid . (Can never work out that one) . So I just put them in my watch list. The majority of the stuff doesn't sell first time around Same with Items with a high start price. Like I was watching a Squier guitar the other day. Similar ones were going for around the £80 mark. This one was, well not going to be a popular colour. It's start price was higher than the vast majority of ones sold (Or highest bid on no-sellers) in the completed listings. Now common sense would dictate that if every other similar item is going for £80 a start price of £90 isn't going to attract too many folk. So I watch it and see if it gets re-listed at a more sensible price.
Most of the stuff I buy is old, and rarely seen, which is different, I can't go to Thomann or similar, so if I want it, and the price is sensible, get it bought. A reserve wouldnt put me off at all. If I bid, and the reserve is higher, then I don't get it, simple. Often the seller contacts the high bidder anyway, and a compromise deal is done.

Why wouldn't you bid on something because it has a reserve on it??

I think its the same varnish Jaco used....... -
Unless the eBay bidding mechanism has changed recently it doesn't work like that. The only way a bid can pass the reserve if the starting price is lower is for another bid to push it past the reserve price. If the starting price is £100 and the reserve is £200. If I bid £250 eBay places my bid at £100. If the auction ends there the bids won't have reached the reserve price and the item remains unsold. If someone else bids £150 then that pushes my bid up to £155, but we still haven't reached the reserve price so no-one wins. The only way to pass the reserve price is for 2 or more people to place bids higher than the reserve.
This.
The problem here is assuming their is a 'true value'. That's not always the case. When you're dealing with, say, a '73 Precision in good condition you've got a fair idea of it's value - enough of them are sold for anyone diligent enough to estimate a ball park price. But something like an Egmond B2V? Not sought after, nor enough sold to guage the market. The true value is what someone is prepared to pay for it, at that moment on that particular auction. If the seller has no idea of it's value he might start the bidding beyond what a limited market might want to pay for it, and it'll go unsold. Too low a start and he won't maximise his return. So he can test the market by incrementally lowering his starting price (a slow, time consuming strategy) or he can just shill the auction. The result isn't that it sells for it's value (at that precise time and place) but that the seller maximises his return on something he has little idea of the value of. If the value of goods are determined in the market place, shill bidding skews that market. You can argue that you only bid what you are prepared to pay, but that's not the reality of auctions - as many people will evidence in the cold light of day. If you're the only person in the market for something, it becomes a simple transaction between you and the seller. If the seller adds ringers into the equation, it loads the terms of the transaction in favour of the vendor.
If I had something unusual to sell, with no true market rate, but a feint idea, then just say so in the ad. State in the sub-title 'make an offer - must sell', then state in the description that you don't know its value, and make an offer, then at the end of the auction, you can review bids, and then you'll know. We're not splitting atoms here. I agree with you that shilling has a use though, even if its a slightly different one! And I don't approve of it by the way, as i've been saying all along.
