1. Ah, I've just discovered the Hipshot ones iipopes recommended are in fact the correct size (same as Gotoh GB7) the posts are 3/8" but the drill hole is 9/16" so no need for a Dremel - which is a good thing as usually when I use one of those it costs me a fortune in repair bills due to 'slippage'
2. No no no - this is what I'm after...
3.
Considering the thread title I found this thread quite disappointing
Yeah that occurred to me after I wrote it Charic. I can only extend my sincerest apologies for wasting your time.
I play HipShot Ultra Lights. http://store.hipshot...ct_detail&p=105
Thanks iipopes they look like the sort of thing I'm after, except they are 3/8" not 7/16" posts - although not sure if there's much in it.. I think the hole size I need is 14mm (9/16)"
4. Thanks for the input everyone I think I'll be taking a trip to a luthier then...
5. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a set of tuners for my bass, 2-a-side. Currently it has the modern style Gotoh GB7 right-angle tuners with the smaller size holes, but I don't like these. I like the elephant ear/cloverleaf style ones on Fenders and Rickenbackers. Does anyone know if I can get these in the smaller hole size? Or if not elephant ears, something that looks a bit more retro than the Gotoh ones I have? thanks as always! bren
6. Yes limited run and all that... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ernie-Ball-MusicMan-SABRE-4-String-Bass-Tony-Levin-COLOR-CHANGING-FINISH-/110971194994?pt=Guitar&hash=item19d6660e72
7. Had an L2000, nothing like the Sabre IMO, feels different and sounds different to me...
8. I rewired the Mid switch to be Series/Parallel, that really gives it a kick of volume and sound when you need it! I think the Sabre is misunderstood a little too. Look at the price of a Stingray of the same vintage, same colour, condition etc. but with a pickup missing... it costs more to have less instrument
9.
Why the excitement over the Sabre ? Is it that different to an L-2000 ?
Yes, Machines. Yes it is. Wow, though I never thought I'd see that happen. Hopefully the originals will skyrocket in value now
10. I've always wanted one of those, but i thought they would be way out of my price range. I was right!
11. One of my basses has this, its very old and there's still some laquer on the frets (except where the strings have chewed it off) has the rest of the neck gone yellowy or just the frets? I reckon a polish would shift it...
12. Hi everyone. I need some help. I'm useless with a router and I'll probably make a right mess of this if I attempt it myself, I can't even manage a hole for a battery box on a slab body! I have an archtop semi acoustic bass with one pickup. I have two Epiphone pickups that I want to put in (mini-humbucker style). So basically I need a new hole made near the end of the fingerboard to house the second pickup, about 2cm deep. The existing pickup hole is in the centre position and should suffice for the other pickup. The construction is a centre block type with hollow wings so the place where the hole is needed is solid wood, but as its an archtop its not exactly simple. Ive marked it on the pic: So is there anyone near me (Mid Sussex) who could lend me a hand with this please? I need to get it sorted in the next couple of weeks if possible, I will reward adequately for your time and effort of course cheers Bren
13. Yes he's almost a parody of his former self. I think the fame may be getting to him...
14. Here's the one I use I think its the same, but reversed...
15. You might have been better with the BEQ-1 as its got the lower frequencies in for bass guitars... too late to swap?

17. Mine has a strict one in one out policy now, I do have plenty of instruments though, and she bought the last one (Yamaha BB) for me! She is very encouraging generally of my musical activities when the band I'm playing with is good, and very discouraging when the band is not so good - even if those are the ones that make the money! She hates the covers band I play with, refuses to come to any gigs and despises that I'm out of the house to play with them. But for the other bands I play for, she's always asking why don't we do more gigs?
18. This is the one I was on about, its not brown though
19. Talk to Andy at Wizard Pickups, he'll make whatever you want for less money than most of the brand name pickups. I've got them in a few of my Jazz basses, all different specs. from the lower output vintage 60s style to mega output custom winds. One set he made for me were not quite right, I talked to him on the phone about why and sent them back for a rewind, within a week I had what I wanted in my bass. wizardpickups.co.uk
20. Well, the 'both pickups on full' setting on the Jazz is pretty scooped in itself, you could try backing the neck off a little bit. I find it too scooped on mine with both on full and mine's the more middy 70s spacing. Back off the neck PU just a smidge though and the 'both pickups' sound is still there but less boomy If its a pedal you're after a simple Boss graphic might well do the trick for you, they do one for bass I think its brown. You could look at getting an East Pre-amp (or the ACG one which is also an East circuit but this is available as a jazz bass control plate, ready wired) for your bass... personally I find the parametric EQ a bit fiddly. But you'll have more mids than you ever need! I've not tried the LH1000 but I had a Hartke HA3500 and I found the EQ on that to be a bit lacking in sensitivity (you had to be on either max or min to notice any difference and it would kind of jump right at the end of the travel), so it may be something to get used to? I don't want to be rude about your new rig, but I wonder if its just not the right sounding setup for you?
21. Fender have been using poly varnish since the late 50s, just putting nitro over the top for the finish coat. I think its far easier to work with than nitro, if you overspray nitro it pools and cracks taking the dried stuff underneath with it. If you overspray poly you just have to rub back a bit more to get rid of the orange peel effect, and its a lot more forgiving and you can re-coat in a matter of hours rather than days. Just make sure you wear a mask, spray in a well ventilated area (but not outside, unless you like dead flies in your finish) and out of direct sunlight!
22. Its moved: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-BASS-AMP-ACOUSTIC-SWR-HEAD-AND-CAB-/221145178082?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D2992236525196641935%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D221145176751%26
23. +1 Talk to GAK, they are usually pretty happy to sort things like this out.
24. Yeah I've got some Picato flats on my fretless, they are good, although I don't use the fretless very often these days so they are also rusty!
