1. If there is no interest in the bass as it is, I might be interested in the electronics for my Lakland! Best of luck with the sale.
2.
Myung is awesome, very modest and happy to be standing at the back out of the spotlight. He can easily shred along with Petrucci and match his solo lines. Check this out, 12 mins but worth watching through:
O.o that boy got some chops!
3. Will gladly go if anyone can get me there from Earl's Court way. I don't drive I'm afraid, but will happily bring anything and everything I have if I get a lift, if not, it'd probably just be me on the train with the Warwick and at a stretch the Lakland too. (My sig is what I'm offering to bring) Dan 1. 4. This is absolutely gorgeous, just in case you didn't already know.
5. £290? Jeez that's a bargain. To be honest, I know some synth pedals that aren't too great at dealing with faster playing, or are particularly unforgiving if you leave a note ringing slightly when you change string, so it's not exclusively a Variax issue. The thing that surprises me is that there hasn't been a proper follow up model; the technology is now many years old and I bet having had the knowledge of making the first one, and the errors with harmonics as you described, that they would be able to make a much better model now.
6.
baws to all this endorsement stuff.... that's more interesting. Loan one to one of the mods to make a video blog review of it or something - you can get it back and we'll all get to hear it/ hear all about it. Find someone small to distribute it, even just mail order only- see what happens.
I think that we could well do with a trade stand at the bass bash. Firms could come (and perhaps contribute towards the hire of the venue) for us each to have a go on them. I'm talking small producers and guys that haven't (yet) cracked the UK like Brubaker, because we can all have a go on each others' Fenders, Warwicks, Yammys etc.
7.
As a bass player who was on a major label and did several small world tours, I think I'm just more amazed at the attitude of many of the "new elite" bassists or wanna be's. Like I said earlier, I'm seeing a trend with a few of them where they approach you for an endorsement (or sponsorship) specifically to build their personal collections. Because some of these guys are not of the super elites, its often harder to track what they do or if they are living up to their agreements.
But do you also not think that actually, when a lot of bass players these days interact on sites such as this one and TB, and they see players who play for bands they've never/barely heard of getting endorsements, they think they could perhaps stretch to that too and that actually the increased interaction with people in these positions actually inflates the number of "wannabees" and people who think they are owed something? I mean, the fact that I can't open google or facebook etc. without adverts for basses and related products, often with some artist's face or name on it means that I probably have a skewed opinion of just quite how much endorsements are out there! The fact it is so widespread makes people think it is easier to get and the terms should be relatively favourable to them. I'm not having a go, but I think if endorsements were reserved exclusively for the very elite (I'm talking contributing artist to a platinum record here), then actually, people might realise the worth of one and not just think they were entitled to one.
8. Personally I love this one: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Wick_Thumb5_STM.html I will gladly let anyone have a go on mine if ever they fancy it and drop by for it. Always glad to spread the word to fellow BCers.
9. Cheers for the comments guys, hadn't realised these basses got so much love around here. And that blueburst one sounds stunning andydye. What are your thoughts on modding this beauty? I mean it sits, looks and plays so lovely/well, I feel that a small amount of outlay would make this a really top drawer bass. That said, it's already making me rethink my view of the five string market after only a few hours of playtime, I mean, I used to think you couldn't get much more solid than a Yamaha (in terms of guaranteed quality for the price), but I got this for a lot less than a lot of TRB's and higher end BB's and I've got to say it blows them right out of the water.
10.
Dude - gorgeous! The scratchplate is a v nice touch I think. And it's defo an EARLY Korean cos it's got the skinny tuners which (IIRC) were only fitted in the first few months of the Skyline series - my now departed 55-02 (Oh Christina, she never writes, never calls... ) I bought new sometime in 2002 and it already had the cloverleaf tuners (IMHO they look better - they were Hipshot Ultralights if you ever fancy the change - it makes them look more like the US Laklands if you like that kinda thang )
Thanks for the kind words, fella. In my experience I actually prefer non-clover leaf tuners just for not going out of tune in cases and gig bags and just for general tuning up and down and things. That said, I prefer them aesthetically, so perhaps I'll make the switch at some point, though an Audere probably comes before new tuners in the pecking order.
11. This is one seriously sexy instrument. Do you play it live in London at all?
12. Lovely bass and a great guy to deal with, don't hesitate to buy from Mark!
13. Traded it with a bloke for my Epi TB Pro-V. I've fired her up and got to say she is lovely, apart from a slight issue with the neck pickup (which I'll sort at some point). The previous owner commissioned the custom pickguard you see on it in the photos. I think it compliments it rather nicely, and being as it's only held on (though seemingly very securely) with double sided sticky tape, there is the option to not have it there. It plays beautifully and is in remarkable condition for one of the first of the Korean factory runs (2001), I really like the sound, though new pups may just give it a bit more oomph (that said I've not tried it through my Sansamp yet so that may help). I saw a thing on youtube of a guy who had fitted his with Nordstrands and an Audere and it sounded great, which I may well do down the line. Dan
14. I used to get a subscription a few years back as a recurring Christmas present. I'd consider getting it again, but it really needs to move digital (if it hasn't already). I read my Economist subscription on the tube on my phone, I would do the same with a BGM, especially if I could pre-download it to read without internet. If it had sound clips etc, then that'd be even better.
15. Had an offer on ebay so just a bump on here as I'd rather sell to a BCer.
16. I'm partial but I've always thought how great a Warwick sounds unplugged!
17. Lovely bass. I'm sure I'll get one someday, not got the money at the moment though! I would say this is probably a very fair price for one of the Ltd. Ed. Warwicks, for anyone who is wondering about that! EDIT: How do you navigate to this page on the warwick site? I couldn't get there via the drop-down menus. Just wondering because I'm hoping to find the page for mine!
18. Now that is an awesome looking bass. So jealous.
19. I would like to see both as equally priced option! IMO you can't have a maple neck on a Warwick without a maple fingerboard. I've had two Corvette $$ 5ers now, my first one was Wenge with Ovangkol and my current one is Flame Maple neck with Birdseye Maple fingerboard, now that's nice Both are different in their own ways, but it should be a free option!
20. Bump, off on holiday on friday so a deal can be done now if you're quick!
