1. Thanks Cameronj. I've given it a bit of thought and decided to move my basses on. I would rather someone played them and I'll go and buy myself a new and different one when I feel like I can play again. That may be months or years but I think it's the right decision. Before I list them for sale on here, I would appreciate some reasonable ballpark evaluations of my basses. Up for sale will be: Lakland Skyline 55-01 (without the custom pick guard) Spear S2-5 I got the first in a trade and the second I bought on here for around £150 iirc. I'll find some pics later but both are in good condition and in need of new strings. Cheers, Dan
2. By the way guys these stories were great inspiration. I really do good to find all of you here when I return proper.
3. Thank you for the kind responses guys. I think I might sell (on here, naturally) what's left of my gear with the hope of starting again. Can't bring myself to play what I have at all. Anyone got any idea what a Warwick flight case is worth? The basses I can price vaguely but really not sure on the case. At the moment I think I'll likely spend the cash on a MIM p-bass or similar. Reduce myself down to one simple instrument so that it's there when the time comes.
4. Thought Metallica smashed it tonight, big fan of the array of basses Trujillo was sporting too.
5. Hi guys, Not been using this site or indeed a bass for a while. Lost the vast majority of my signature in a warehouse fire last summer (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/217914-everything-gone-advice-would-be-nice/page__fromsearch__1 - your guys' support at the time meant a great deal to me) and was reimbursed to the tune of £500 by the storage firm's insurers. Not enough to cover my amp let alone my basses (I used this to pay for clothes as I lost quite a lot of those too). Anyhow, I've still been left with the Lakland and the Spear in my sig and I've played them a couple of times since, but in the past 6 months I don't think I've done so once. I bought an acoustic guitar at Christmas (cheapo Yammy) but that has barely been played either. Not being able to afford a replacement Warwick (I bought it second hand on here for £1100, replacement from Warwick quoted as €4000+) is the biggest thing for me, just finding no enthusiasm to play recently. I'm busy with new flat/job/girlfriend etc but not finding time for bass or the desire to play is really not something I've experienced before. I'm half tempted to sell the last couple so at least someone plays them, and then perhaps I'll pick up a P-bass in a few years time or something. Anyone else been through a playing rut like this and what did they do about it? Is selling the last of my basses a bad idea? Cheers, Dan
6.
I don't understand the reluctance to buy Hartke gear. It's superb - and not just for the money, either.
I think it's great it's just too big for me and my needs, cheers for the kind words! It's going into storage tomorrow morning though and then it's off the market as I'll just keep it!
7. Moving out of my digs on the 23rd, so please snap it up before then or I'll be hanging onto this excellent amp!
8. Dropping the price of this to £550 for a limited time only. If this doesn't shift in the next 1-2 weeks I will keep it as it's not worth me selling. I would rather pay to store it over the summer than let it go too cheaply.
9. Little bump for this great bass, a bargain at just £250.
10. Here are some photos. I can take and upload any more that people would like upon request.
11. NOT FOR SALE ANYMORE! Packed this off into storage now and will be keeping it myself when I get back! Rather reluctantly, up for sale is my Hartke HyDrive 5410C, which combines Hartke's 500W LH500 head (valve preamp) with a 4x10 cab which also has a 1" high frequency driver. This is the latest, top-of-the-line gear from Hartke, going on GAK for £850. I'm moving house this summer and am storing my things in a storage unit where space is at a premium, I never thought I'd sell this amp, it's great for me, but I'm likely moving to a small flat and this is just too big for that; my current band isn't near gig ready so I'm a bedroom only player for the time being. The amp is great, the sound is amazing and versatile, it's never been above 4 on the volume scale and never left my home since it's been out of the box, so as you'd expect it's in great condition (pictures in post below). I'd gladly let any prospective buyer come and try it out at my house with their bass (or with any of mine of course). Unfortunately I threw out the box as it took up a lot of space I didn't have, but I still have the manual. Given the weight, this amp is collection only from London (SW6 postcode). The asking price on BC is [s]£650[/s] £550, I will also list this on eBay (once I've had chance to take some photos), though at a higher price to reflect the selling fees there. I'm not presently interested in any trades as I don't want to store anything for the summer. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, Cheers, Dan
12. Hi guys, I'm considering moving on my Hartke HyDrive 5410c. It's a cracking amp, there is literally nothing I would change about the sound I get from it, the only problem is the size. I'm moving out of my current place soon, which whilst being a terraced house, there are no neighbours above or below to get annoyed; I'm likely to be moving into a small flat where this will become an issue. Even as it is my current amp doesn't get pushed above 3 even on a loud day, so basically I would like a similar sound, ideally tube, in a much smaller amp. This is where I would like all of your advice! My current band aren't really at a gigging stage and I tend to prefer a Sansamp in such situations anyway. Price for the new amp isn't too much of an object as I'm hoping my amp should fetch a good price; retail is £850 and my one has never left my room, great condition. So, gimme all your lovely suggestions, bearing in mind the priority is the best sound for small size! Cheers, Dan
13.
Hello. I live in North London .
Hello indeed. That's handy - are you interested in the bass? Cheers, Dan
14.
Hi , Where do you live?
Hi there, Marunio. I live in London, (post code SW6 1SJ). I travel around London for band things and have family based in Berkshire and Kent if that is something that suits your needs better.
15. So last night I had the pleasure of seeing Muse play a short set live at Horse Guards Parade on a free ticket. It was a promo thing for Brad Pitt's new blockbuster, World War Z, for which Muse have written some of the music. Given the occasion, the free ticket and Muse's fame I was expecting mediocrity and a dull performance, but I'm pleased to say I was nothing short of dazzled by their show. I was genuinely impressed by the musicianship, the pyro was cool and the sound was huge and about as clear of a live sound as I've heard. On a not entirely unrelated note, does anyone know what effect Chris Wolstenholme uses for Time is Running Out when playing live? It was one of the best synthy bass sounds I've heard. He had a cracking tone all set with an array of Statuses each with very, very bright LEDs. Anyone else seen Muse or was there last night? Got to say the venue itself was a spectacular setting for a concert, especially as it got darker and the lights had a bit more effect. Cheers, Dan
16. I've dropped this price to £300 + postage. It's less than what I paid for the bass but it really is just sat there not being played in its hard case and that won't do. This is a great instrument, someone is going to get themselves a steal, Dan
17.
That is a thing of beauty... I now have GAS for this. After pay day (and selling organs) I shall pop back here.
Thanks LF, I must agree I'm a sucker for the looks of this bass but my Warwick and Lakland just get far more play time. Let me know when pay day rolls in! All the best, Dan
18. Hi guys, I've been spectacularly busy of late but can confirm this bass is still for sale. I've now added some pictures and a few more details to the original post. This was posted before the rule changes but I have paid my BC selling fee! Cheers, Dan
19. SOLD SOLD SOLD! Hi guys, Not been on in a while but am skint and could do with clearing out some basses I don't play anymore. This one is a 5 string, non-reverse bodied Epiphone Thunderbird. These are very rare, you don't see many in 4 string models and even fewer as 5s. It's a lovely instrument but doesn't get the playing time it deserves. It's lived in a hard case as long as I've had it and it will be sold with said hard case and a strap. From the Guitar Dater Project and the serial number, I can tell you that this beauty was made in June 1997, in the Korean Samick plant. The production number is 0026 which makes it one of the first made - in fact later versions seem to have a different decal on the headstock. Here are some photos of the bass: I'm going to ask what I paid for it which is [s]£350[/s] price dropped to [s]£300[/s] £250 + insured postage (around £20). Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Cheers, Dan
20. Why is the Infinity the one with 4 strings? Sighhhhhh Lovely collection, best of luck selling them.
21. MozzaRellum, please be advised that posting pornography on the forum is not permitted..... .....Woowwwwwwwwww that's a nice bass
22. Any word on a potential lift from Hammersmith area? Would be greatly appreciated and petrol money ofc paid or donated to BC as desired.
23. I've got to agree with the comments on Warwick's marketing tactics; every day I get several nice Warwick basses (and Framus guitars but let's not get into that again) posted to my Facebook feed, and I know, to look at them, these are very expensive, yet no price tag is mentioned, almost as if they're ashamed of them. Ultimately, I think the prices are too high for what the basses are (bloody good basses), especially when second hand ones can be had so cheaply - I got mine on here for £1100 in perfect condition with all original case and accessories, it retailed at £2300 and would probably be even more under the current price regime - and do I think I got a good deal for £1100? Yes. Would I buy one for £2300 or more? No, unless I had a lottery win! I'm proud to be a Warwick owner, but I don't even look at their new prices anymore, and when a German made model can be had in mint condition S/H for the price of a new Korean/Chinese one, I'm not likely to be tempted in the near future either. I also think that the Warwick marketing is poor. It's all a matter of taste, but when they hand signature models to blokes I've barely/never heard of, it doesn't exactly impress me, especially when I then get spammed loads with a bass I don't particularly like! Even the old custom models that Warwick bring up photos of to advertise I tend to think are a lot less attractive than some I have seen in my years of trawling through the site. I know it's a question of taste, but I swear their marketing guys don't quite pick them as well as other brands can (thinking Sandberg here).
