1. Ive always wanted to be in one so much it makes me want to pop!, i never got round to sending in a 'my bass is' either!, i was in a few rock mags with Doublecross when our album came out, and we were doing ok,but mainly German ones, and of course not bass mags.
2. Im a sucker for the looks too, I have my blue jazz cause its my old friend that is also going in the jar with me when im pickled to await my glorious return from the afterlife. My recently bought '75ri was simply cause i had wanted a white jazz since Gibson Keddies white 70's one in bassist like ten years ago, and its turned out to be the best bass ive ever had i reckon! My bassmaster funk was an impulse buy as a teenager cause it looked like a streamer ( my 2nd fave shape after the jazz) and its too battered and sentimental to me to part with. My 'ray is my 'sensible 'go-to' bass that sits well in any mix on any stage, and as the 'ray sound is what got me started i still consider myself lucky to own one as i never thought i would, even though im not big on the colour, the piezo, and am a bit out of love with it at the mo! My streamer is simply an indulgence, as i love the shape, although is the best for all the train travelling i do (cant drive either!) as its like a feather and has all the frets too, so i can do funky wah-wah guitar funk and jazzy chordal stuff at the top of the neck. The acoustic is 'just likely to come in handy' and the squier is just cause it looks great, and my wife said i should buy it so it was rude not to!....mmm....shallow!
3. The first thing in noticed was the quality of the photograph on the cover, it seemed really sharp, was well impressed!, nice to see Homer and Luke in there too.
4. I bought it and now dont use it (though i might play some guitar...as if!) so its just sitting there in ok nick feelin left out!, anyone got anything they might wanna swap? or £25 posted Also still selling my beastly loud peavey classic chorus 212 guitar combo £100 come and get it!
5. Bass.... wireless reciever... Bass wah...(here for easy access) zoom 506 in a seperate loop switched by a boss ls2... Boss ce2 chorus...Here for easy access... hartke vxl...di/overdrive after wah and chorus for funkyness and so they go through the di... boss ds1...rarely used unless annoyed... boss compressor...here so it tames peaks from wah and flanger etc and volume jump from overdrive and because i find compression essential for my style... boss ns2 noisegate to reduce hiss etc from other pedals, and also last because it has two outputs should i need em
6. Thanks dude, its all good, i reckon that was a top buy! hehheh
7.
i totally disagree, i don't see how compression is the best starting point for someone wanting to experiment with effects
True, not the best for starting to fiddle about with sounds (my first was a phaser weeeeeoooo etc etc, great fun!) didnt really think of it like that, for me imho etc etc compression is the one indispensible pedal. I was thinking more in gigging terms. Always makes me chuckle when guitarists make a big deal about me having 'so many pedals', and so many are just stuff like compression, tuner, noisegate etc, no superwobblifiers etc
8. yeah , thats exactly what he said to me, i reckon it might have some problem, the action was really high last time i played it.
9. Thought so, call me Gaf my friend! I wasnt blown away either, are you the guy that bought it or did you just play in store?
10. Is that the one in world of guitars in Cheltenham?
11.
I loved the old model they made for Steve Swallow when I first saw it in BP years back, and was pretty gutted when it finally came to market, and looked nothing like his model.
Yup...it looked ace, and then years later it was like...oh!
12. I found it a tad over EQ'd sounding on active basses, more suitable to passives. I used to use a boss ge7b, but now TOTALLY recommend the hartke VXL bass attack, it has a boost facility, and a preshape and the nicest, valveiest bass drive ive come across, and its blendable, and its a DI, (and imho it flattens the much vaunted sansamp)
13. I use the Gator as its mounted on my gator pedal board and have no issues at all, once i realised i may need a few more cables (3.5 to regular boss style) and emailed gator, a few days later a bunch of them ploopled through my door f.o.c, which was nice!
14.
you wanna sound big and punchy and in tune. Compressor and Tuner
Yup, dull, but def the best starting point, i wont go anywhere without compression!
15. Lol, Fred was suposed to be my tutor when i was at college too, but was on tour at the time so i only saw him once, a room full of bass players jaws just dropped when he came and did a short demo. I was also assessed by him among others on a short solo piece id written at uni, which should have been nerve-wracking! if i wasnt such an arrogant little sod!
16. Everyone recall Mr Peaveys attitude in BGM?, he didnt come off as the caring type! Hope you get this sorted out though mate, dont stand for this.
17. Ditto here really, googled bass forum on a whim in about '04 i reckon and found bassworld, then of course we had all the issues and bassworld and now basschat. I think i posted more on bassworld though.
18.
I wouldnt say bass was harder to play, I wouldnt say it was easier either. And Guitar strings can really get your fingers sore, its like cheese wire! And in a band context, everybody has their part to play and everyone is as equally important ( even if bassists are that little bit cooler than the rest, but shhhhh)
I have a stock answer to this issue, i always say: Bass is easier to learn, but harder to play well!
19. nice thanks dude, ill look closer when i get in from work!
20. Im also curious about the peterson strobostomp, it looks great, but id be worried about it taking ages, and you sounding out with everyone else that didnt tune to a peterson!? Anyone got any knows?
21. Yup, i recall a similar story straight from the Trace reps mouth about the BLX being so called because of the over excited and repeated description of it being the dogs blx by the designer when he presented the design at a meeting or something, and the name stuck!
22. shims still confuse me, even after the article, does anyone have pics of shims in place as examples of different placements and their effects? (In slow typing in big letters using small words!)
23. I never waxed a warwick once a week, once a month at most, and never had a prob. Warwickhunt whaddya say?
24. Mine is also chunky, and also black (with maple and matching head incidently) but even though it does have a chunky neck everytime i plug it in i still giggle and say "It sounds just like a stingray!" As i wanted one for sooooo many years, infact it was specificly the sound of a Ray that got me started (Chilis and RATM and ride, and Neds), i was like i wanna make 'that' sound, and only a ray would do, shame it took like 15 years to get one!, and over a year later i STILL havn't got over the novelty! Sorry to threadjack, lush bass good luck with the sale, the pickguard looks like an abalone one i used to have.
