1. We have one on Sat too but I don't think it's a particularly sporty pub so we may get away with regular start/finish times. England playing Friday anyway. Theres no way we are starting at 11pm. The pub probably closes at midnight in any case!
2. Don't want it? Don't buy it. Problem solved. As far as rights to the back catalog, well Macca was doing something a couple of years ago but not sure what the current state is; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2394325/Sir-Paul-McCartney-set-win-rights-Beatles-catalogue.html
3. I didn't play anything in my younger days but was briefly a singer in a school rock band and I recall our guitarist taking me to some mythical music shop in Bingley that people used to rate, can't remember the name. Would have been around 1980.
4. It was, one of those 'contractual obligation' releases recorded on the tour to support the 'White Fourway Mains Splitter' album of the previous year. We won't see the likes of Black Spaghetti again. I think Tony Goggle might have been in one lineup.
5. Great stuff, nice that BC has a winner since several of us turned up at the events.
6.
That's not bad. Add 4 par cans, a laser and a smoke machine with footswitch and it becomes more of a nightmare.
We did actually have 2 laser lights pointing at the ceiling and a small KAM bar with 4 LED's pointing at us from offstage, but they were all plugged into one of the white 4-ways
7. Yes you had to be a bit circumspect back in the day but then again word soon got round about shops that habitually ripped off folks and could be boycotted. With the advent of all the online outlets for moving on used gear it's actually not that common to see much used gear in recognised music shops any more. I miss the 'rummage factor' a bit and old basses smelling of woodbines after they'd done years on the WMC circuit. Did I mention this all used to be fields once?
8.
But did you have music stands?
I was going to say 'no' but then I remembered that (for the first time ever) the singer brought along one of those things you can fasten to a mic stand with a holder in it for an ipad/tablet type thing. Not sure if it qualifies as a music stand. Anyhow here we are in our unrefined glory. The stage would have been tidier than this but we were asked to go on ahead of schedule. 9. We must have used at least two, if not three, four way splitters (in white) at our last gig. Oddly enough none of the audience seemed to be bothered by it, they were too busy asking us to play more (ended up doing 3 sets) nor the club management who, presumably after looking at what they'd taken over the bar, immediately rebooked us.
10. The Deep Purple one recorded as part of the same series is worth a watch too, George Best in the audience!
11. Current band aren't particularly 'mobile' so as long as we can segregate each band members area and keep cables in straight lines (front to back or across the stage) we haven't had any real problem yet, last Sat's was a bit messy as they suddenly announced they wanted us to go on just after 9pm before we had properly secured everything. No casualties though and no cables running where joe public had to step over them.
12. I had this last Saturday, first time we'd gigged since early August then we were all off on holidays so no bookings taken. We'd actually had a couple of hrs in a rehearsal room during the week and it didn't sound too bad but we seemed terribly rusty at the actual gig and I was as guilty as anyone, bizarre mistakes on songs I can usually do in my sleep.
13. I was in a band once where we ended up with a stupid number of leads (mainly due to the drummer insisting on fully mic'ing his drum kit which was overkill for pubs and a PITA to get decent mixes of) and I ended up buying multicore 'snake' with 16 inputs. It was still a bit of a mess onstage (gaffer tape is your friend) but at least only 1 cable leaving the stage to go out front to the desk.
14. Just listening on BBC site doing 'In a broken dream', don't think it sounds bad for a 70 year old tbh.
15. We were a bit ring rusty after all of us taking time off in August for family holidays and the like so it was a bit daunting facing a working men's club type audience and basically playing from just after 9pm till midnight with a couple of fairly short breaks. It blew the cobwebs off but I was knackered by the time I got home. They want us back next spring but they will have to pay more if they want that sort of coverage again. We also got a more lucrative private party booking from it too which was good. Looking at some of the FB comments it seems the audience graciously overlooked my occasional Les Dawson moments on the PK5 pedals last night
16.
Played in a small sleazy rock bar
Could have been worse, you might have been sitting in a sleazy snack bar sucking sickly sausage rolls...
17. Great stuff, dread to think how little progress I'd made after 3 years. Probably still figuring out where the notes were on the fretboard courtesy of some dusty tome from the local library.
18. Another bizarre offering from Ray Stevens was a version of Glenn Miller's 'In The mood' performed entirely as chickens. I recall it distinctly as we had it on vinyl at hospital radio and I'd give it a spin every now and again.
19. The tune just doesn't suit his style of drumming. At times it comes across like the band aren't so much playing it as assaulting it with a blunt instrument., though to be fair the bass player comes out of it better than most.
20. Things are looking up, I think we've convinced the guitar player to have a go at Lock All The Doors so we might give it a go at one of our two next gigs. Of course no one will know it as it hasn't been played by every pub band for the last 10 years but you have to try a bit of education now and again.
21. I was always under the impression that Family's 'Bandstand' was liked by fans and critics alike and regarded as one of their best, contains two of their best known songs. It got to number 15 in the album chart which isn't shabby. Not something I'd consider under the title of the thread tbh.
22. I think this is quite impressive as well though they were never my fave band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPl-ToM9WiQ
23. Don't have time to go thru whole thread so apologies if these have already been posted No so much novelty in the actual sounds as the not quite run of the mill subject matter.

Next 2 gigs for current band Shed The Ego, both in Derbyhire: Sat Sep 12th Kilburn Miners Welfare. DE56 0PR Sat Sep 19th Boot & Slipper, Swanwick. DE55 1BL
25. How about 'Lock All The Doors' from latest Noel Gallagher album? He originally wrote it as an Oasis song in 1991 but it didn't end up on an album. Our singer wants our band to do it but the guitarist seems reluctant as its not well known enough
