A long and respected career, been in at least 2 great bands and got to get jiggy with Christine at her sexiest. Hate him.

Sadly it's not the wear that has made me chuck out old t-shirts, it's the fact I've got too fat to fit in them

Could you get away with using the jazz for all the non-fretless work or is the PJ essential, different tunings? Ultimately though you don't want a bass sitting round that you know is going to give you grief when called on so as others have said it's worth investigating making it more playable.

I think I've been remarkably lucky with my gigs over the years and I was reluctant to post this as it was far from 'awful' but I must admit that when I saw Gillan in 1982 they just didn't seem the same as when I'd seen them only a year earlier with same personnel. However they were an extremely hard working band (5 studio albums between '79 and '82 and regularly clocking up around 100 shows per year, they would tour twice in the same year - how many full pro recording bands do that now?) so there were always going to be occasional off nights. It didn't surprise me when the band broke up soon after, the onstage rapport didn't seem the same by 82.

Interesting but I don't think that drumming in the verses of the first half does anything for the song at all. I know it's supposed to be like that to make it more disconcerting and edgy but it's just too much. Otherwise I quite like it.

I'd forgotten one, the all-girl 'band' (I think they were more performance artists than actual musicians tbh) that were on first at the RHCP's gigs when James Brown was second on the bill, think it was a greatest hits tour. Man City's football stadium. Shambolic from start to finish. Think they were Australian but could be wrong, forget their name.
Absolutely superb live band, seen them a few times.
I almost got to see them again supporting Deep Purple (Styx second on bill of 3) but there was a long power out problem between acts so that in order for the running times to be correct again poor old Styx got saddled with having to do literally 3 songs and then go off, they still gave it their all but i doubt if they've ever done a shorter show.

Styx at Rock City on Big Bang Theory (album of covers) tour. As they had released an album of covers it suggested they were pretty dried up of ideas and probably a bit past it and i wasn't a big fan to start with. On the night an utterly stunning level of professionalism and they could still all sing extraordinarily well and with full harmonies, great show in a smallish venue.

Being the "house" band at a jam night. What does it involve ?

Great to hear. These things take a while to gather momentum but word gets round and soon all sorts will start coming out of the woodwork to do 'their thing'. -
Yes i noticed later that some places were matching it. I tried to get the anniversary model at that knock down price as a back-up but they all sold out. Also that model was silver and the colour scheme made it easier to see the markings on the knobs, could just buy a batch of replacement knobs i guess, don't fiddle much with it tbh I just got to settings I liked and keep it at that.

Well if we're going down that road... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8GlCrNrlWE&list=PL8a8cutYP7fpv0Ko4VX2vTt1BvA13VZFS -
I know I should post this elsewhere but never sure how many folks look at some of the other subgroups. Looks like gear4music have a bit of a deal on for anyone looking for one new : http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Hartke-VXL-Bass-Attack-Preamp---Pedal/C1E That's not far off what I paid for mine several years ago.

How did you get on, Les? -
well all things considered in this post i just consider myself lucky i never went to see Yngwie
Only saw him once but it was a great gig, Joe Lynn Turner on vocals, gave it their all promoting the 'Odyssey' album. Very little unnecessary solo sections iirc, just got on with the real songs and I quite liked the album at the time.
-
Pretty well for me, a number of friends (and even a couple of girlfriends) who wouldn't otherwise have listened to it got 'quite interested' (subtle Steve Davis ref).
-
In recent memory two that stick out (both in support slots so not a wasted evening) were British Sea Power (who, considering they had already had 2 or 3 albums out by then just seemed utterly disorganised and amateurish on stage) and Athlete who were drab and tedious and made no attempt to make any connection with the audience at all.

I saw them before casapete joined, they were called Rockaria back then
The keys player was an original ELO Band member - the only one I think.
Richard Tandy, goes back to the early days of ELO and the only one Jeff has kept any relationship with (though he doesn't seem to be on the new studio album at all!). Don't think he's even spoken to Bev Bevan for the best part of 30 years. I think it all got a bit touchy over the whole 'ELOII' thing.
-
The modern artists must have a fairly reasonable opinion of older music though since they are constantly reinterpreting parts of it or directly taking samples of it to use in their own 'original' recordings.
-
It looks a bit sh*t irrespective of recent events. Surprised anyone OK'd it.
-
Yeah LP did the live gig they did for BBC last time, seen him up close with It Bites and it does look weird with upside down stringing. He's also been in one version of Steve Hackett's band doing the Genesis stuff, he knows his stuff, pedals, bvox the lot.
-
I would really like them if it wasn't for that twatt!

Didn't he pick Cynthia to start with though? -
ambient, For Nottm the cheapest were around the £50 mark rising to through a medium of sixty-odd up to ninety-odd for best seats. My mate was off work today and also wanted to go so he was waiting, finger on button dead on 9am when they went on sale online. Almost immediately it froze, then virtually all cheap seats gone in a second, soon followed by the rest. Within a very short time cheap seats then on sale at 'get me in' for about twice face value. Screw that...
