1. Still available. Ding closeups as promised: 1) On top edge as you wear the bass. I had a go at filling one of them but it didn't work out (it's filled, but far from invisible) 2) Several small dings on rear of body 3) One on the underside of the neck between the first and second frets. It's near the fingerboard so you probably won't feel it when you're playing. 4) One in the front near the selector switch Only the ones on the top edge I would consider to be deep and substantial, none of them are through to the wood. But I've blown them all up so that no-one is disappointed or feel they have been misled.
 2. Modding's fun, but it's not for profit. You put all the fancy pants parts you like in a budget bass and it's still a budget bass. That's how the market will see it. You will struggle to get anything like the money you paid out for the parts, and don't forget the time it takes to scutter about with the bass - time is money but don't expect to get any return on that either. Did I mention it's a lot of fun and can bring one great satisfaction to create out of something fairly inexpensive an instrument that punches well above its weight? But it's still a mug's game, for all that.
 3. Cheers for the kind words
 4. http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/2011...nsert-neck-kit/ Also my Gibson G-3 and Victory Artist both have a similar sort of arrangement and yes, it's very secure and convenient.
 5. I would say that the Bass V is a pretty hard bass to create a forgery of. Apart from its relative obscurity which transcends rarity to the point where most people don't even know what it is (or think it's fake anyway) and it's never been reissued - a 15 fret neck with 5 in line headstock isn't exactly an "off-the-shelf" piece.
 6.
Right just done that and it all looks ok. What next? I guess raising the pickup up will raise the bridge and make it worse so would it be wise to file the G string side of the bridge so it sits a little lower?
I fixed an electro acoustic guitar which wasn't picking up the E string at all. The owner had had a go at filing down the bottom of the saddle and got it squint, meaning that it wasn't sitting flush and square in the recess. Put the bridge bottom down on a known flat surface - does it rock at all?
 7. The ones I have tried are as follows: Mono strap - was quite comfy but I didn't really care for the metal bits, seems to me like it might ding the top your bass if it fell on it. Neotech mega strap - I really like this one - it certainly takes the sting out of my 12lb Victory Artist. I used to have it on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass, another fairly substantial beast, and it was also excellent at combating neck dive. 8. For sale is my Epiphone Les Paul Standard with quite a few enhancements. The main one being the guts - 2x EMG-HB pickups and an EMG-BQC 3 band EQ with mid sweep. There has been a pickup selector switch fitted in the usual Les Paul position (the stock model never had this) and finished off with some tasteful John East knobs. Pics here: The evolution of the bass (and the usual embarrassing vow never to sell it) can be seen here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40217 There are a couple of dings in the body (not of my making, grr!) which I will photograph in due course in the spirit of full disclosure. I'd like £300 + postage (£20) for this. The price is firm. Without wishing to seem defensive, the EMG gubbins would cost nearly £250 at Thomann. Modding's a mug's game I will also supply it with a Mono strap (essential for keeping neck dive at bay) and a gig bag. It was photographed with TI Jazz flats on it but it is currently strung with some (I think) Ernie Ball roundwounds. Cat not included, sorry. I'm not looking for any trades, sale only.
 9.
Hi, I have just picked up a Washburn AB10 acoustic bass and the G string is quite a bit quiter than the other strings. As these basses don't have adjustable bridges and I think the pickup is in the bridge, whats the best way to go about fixing this? Would gently filing down the groove where the string sits on the bridge making the string sit lower work? Any advice appreciated.
I presume that you're talking about the problem being with amplified sound, not the acoustic sound?
 10.
not a good idea to drink before you go on, it makes your timing sloppy and has a negative effect on your voice
I believe no pint makes me jumpy and early. One pint gets me in the groove. Two pints makes my timing sloppy. That is just my opinion based upon my own experience.
 11. I like a single pint before the gig, soft drink during, pint(s) after if no car. I just think it's a case of getting up there.
 12.
Would it win aggression, top end, growl, punch? I know who's side I'd be on.
I was thinking it would win brown note strength, mud, weight, dimensions, DC resistance, number of turns, number of coils and amount of metal used in the construction thereof
 13.
But which is better?
I have to say that the Telebass humbucker would win most things in a game of Top Trumps
 14. or I would say there aren't much more different pickups than these two which have been fitted to the same type of bass during a production run
 15.
Oh dear Matt. So it's finally come to this. Selling off Jayne's gear to pay for more basses for you. I've just got to say to anyone considering this, Matt's a sound guy to deal with. His word is his bond.
Heh, I wish. No, the lady has her eye on a telly upgrade
 16. Mmm, surf green is just all kinds of good.
 17. Probably done this before but - Epiphone EB-3
 18. Posting this on behalf of my wife: High quality saxophone, this will last for as long as you do. It has been well looked after by two careful lady musicians. The poor thing doesn't get played with that much anymore so it looking for a new home where it's new owners will have the time to play with it. Nice temperament, good with children and doesn't leave much of a mess. Comes with crook, hard case, automatic tuner and neck strap. £400 ono. + postage Pictures at gumtree listing: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/trevor-j...00-ono/80514378 Cheers Matt
 19.
The point here though is that when you look at the pics it is obvious that the bass has done some work, which is to be expected, but did that guy really have to bother to e-mail the seller to complain?? Some people must have more time on their hands than me!!!
The point is it's a barefaced lie.
 20.
I think there's a bit of a diminishing returns thing. The difference between a £50 and £500 bass will be bigger than that between a £500 and £5000 bass. The more expensive ones will have better build quality, and ultimately sound that bit better, but it still comes down to how you EQ it. Think i'll stick to my one mid-range bass Of course, we'd all see a bigger improvement in our sound if we spent as much time practising as we do browsing the For Sale section
Agree on both points (especially the second). I feel that I've reached a price point in my gear collecting where I can't/don't/won't see the benefit of spending more. Prime example is the G&L Tribute L-2000. What's the point in getting a USA G&L? Same pickups, the Tribute is already pretty well screwed together, looks quite nice anyway, maybe a little heavy, but does a slight aesthetic improvement (nicer ash grain, more colour choices, the possibility of binding), perhaps a slightly lighter body, and tuners stamped with G&L along with the ALL IMPORTANT LOGO on the headstock really justify a doubling in price? Not for me, because there isn't a corresponding doubling in quality as perceived by me. Yes, I have played a USA L-2000 (in fact it was one at the Moffat bash which started me off on G&L basses in the first place) and while it was very nice and all, I'm glad I hedged my bets and sourced a Tribute - all the sound with a neck I like for half the cost.
 21.
Yeah I guess so! I mean really who expects a 32 year old bass to be in mint condition?
If it's described as "mint" then I expect it to be "mint" - the age is irrelevant. You do get basses which have been forgotten in a shop stock room, or bought for someone who had no interest in bass then mothballed for years. Rare, but it can happen. But in short, I expect a 32 year old "mint condition" bass to be in "mint condition". I'm quite the pedant that way.
 22.
Hahaha. Just saw this and couldn't help posting. We're currently at 3.... and counting.
Hahaha, just you take advantage of the wiggle room in that statement. I was talking specifically about the Gibson version of this particular bass, but I didn't make that clear, oops. So, yeah, chuckle away, as it does appear on the face of it to be a delicious irony
