Another cretin making up fantasy rubbish to try & sell their broken junk. Can anyone explain why it is these retards seem to think that everyone else is even more stupid & ignorant than they are? Unbelievable! Jon.
They're possibly not retards - merely working on the statistical possibility that there's always someone out there who's more cerebrally challenged than oneself. "There's a sucker born every minute"? You're clearly not in their target market and I think you feel hurt and left out as a consequence, feeling the need to lash out because of your feelings of abandonment and rejection

62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
neepheid replied to lovetheblues's topic in Repairs and Technical
In order to buy the right pickup (there are so many possibilities!) it would help to know what you don't like about your current sound and how it differs from the sound in your head that you want. To answer your questions - yes I have changed the pickup in a Squier P - I put in a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound and it certainly beefed up the sound, more output, more everything really (bigger pole pieces, more winds). I'm not suggesting that it is the best P pickup out there as I haven't tried enough to make such a judgement, but it's a decent improvement for the price. It's not tough to do. Assuming you're keeping the rest of the electrics it's a case of remove strings, remove pickguard, de-solder 2 wires, remove old pickup, fit new pickup, solder 2 wires, replace pickguard, restring, DONE. Oh yeah, keep the original pickup. If you sell on this bass, you may not get any more money for it just because it has brand X fancy pants pickup in it. Put the original pickup back in, sell it as stock, and you'll get some money back on selling the replacement pickup separately (or put it in your next bass if it fits ) -
I'll vote for "health hazard" No idea on price, sorry!

Heh, was idly trawling eBay and stumbled upon the Godin Shifter:

Found another one - Spear Flextool: J/P/MM
-
Heh, it's fun to watch basses you have no intention of buying

People who buy the latest stuff then flog it 3 months later

I'm sure I've sold stuff in that time frame. Up here, it's the only way to try stuff. -
Hmph, phantom coils and coil tapping is cheating!
Does this thread mean your Danelectro is nearly here Matt?
Having started in Tucson, Arizona, it is currently somewhere between here and Indianapolis, Indiana. Friday delivery estimated.

As I gazed thoughtfully at my Gibson G-3, I thought to myself "you don't see many basses with 3 (or more) pickups". I thought it might be fun to try and list as many as I could. Feel free to add any I've missed Gibson G-3 EBMM Big Al Fender Urge Danelectro Hodad Burns Bison (and Marquee and others) Ibanez JTKB300 Can anyone think of any others?

The Very Definition of "Optimistic"
.... and that it sounded better..... oh no that's me off Neepheid's xmas list.
Nah, you're safe enough - I'm no fan of EB/SG basses. -
Apparently though, a nice thick leather strap sorts that problem.
I'd say "mitigates" rather than "sorts"

allparts or fender? (turns out fender parts aren't universal!)
neepheid replied to chrisd24's topic in General Discussion
I'd guess that the Fender neck and the Fender body will fit together perfectly
Ooh, hopeful -
I feel I need to jump on this bandwagon also because I've realised that in just over 2 years of (serious) playing I've had nearly 20 basses in and out the doors. To be fair I've broken even on average on the ones I've sold on, and you could say that I've just been finding out what I like and don't like but it's probably time to calm down now that I'm clear on what I like (Gibson basses, wide necks, lots of tonal options, quirky (but not pointy) looks) I will make a proviso that if interesting (to me) Gibson basses turn up at silly prices I'll be having them
-
I've only had 1 bad gig out of 11 so far. Sure, I'll make a few little mistakes most gigs but this one was poor. Afterwards, I was all for tendering my resignation from the band because I felt so bad. The guitarist said to me that he was glad I'd had an off night as it proved I wasn't a robot. Then we all had a good drink and a laugh. Go figure. My wife showed me how to deal with mistakes. She took a tea towel in her hand and said "See this? This is your mistake." She then scrunched it up in a ball and threw it over her shoulder.
So what your saying is its not possible to get a family member to buy it for you then send it you as a christmas pressie or somesuch. Would you still have to pay duty on this?
If it's worth more than £36 then yes, you will.

My first bass was an Epi EB-3. It certainly was pretty, but I eventually found out that it wasn't my kind of bass because of the thin neck and the bad balance. I sold it without any regrets.

My wife lets my buy any basses I like - except pointy ones. I call them "divorce basses" That is a bargain though, someone should snap that up.

Another Electro-Acoustic Bass Thread! £200 - £450
neepheid replied to hm1992's topic in Bass Guitars
Having owned a Takamine G-series and an Ibanez AEB, I believe that NO acoustic bass guitar will compete unamplified with even a single acoustic guitar. There just isn't enough space in the body to resonate enough air to produce enough sound at bass frequencies. In my humble opinion the only reason to have an acoustic bass guitar is to blend in aesthetically with an acoustic ensemble, but you'll still need amplification. -
No, they use standard templates for their responses - you will not get a human response this side of writing to someone senior or causing a fuss. They are absolutely awful. Criminally awful. In fact, I'll post their MD the link to this article. Yet another example of how they can't get the basics right.
I couldn't even get their attention by reporting someone who was asking for Western Union payment while passing themselves off as a PowerSeller when they weren't. It seems they don't even care about fee avoidance which I thought would be a sure fire way of piquing their interest. Success rate in getting counterfeit basses taken down has gone way down also. Oh well.
OK thanks, file in situ or remove the saddle? Anyone else see a disaster looming???
Remove the saddle. Filing/sanding will make an awful mess of your guitar and dust/filings could get into the slot and sit on top of the piezo - you don't want that.
Just aquired this new beasty Really good nick, normal acoustic issues of low volume when unplugged, but a fine aquisition all the same (used to have one, sold it, regretted it, so rebought one!!!) Anyway after my initial play, I'd like to adjust the action if possible. At the headstock end the action is fine but is a tadge high at the body end, prob by .25cm or so. Now as far as I can tell, there is some possiblity to reduce the height of the plastic (?) bridge, I assume by filing and I'm sure some truss rod adjustment. If anyone has done this before on an ABG I like some words of comfort/tips/advice before I have a crack at it. It's a Takamine EG512C. Thx.
IIRC on the Takamine the bottom of the saddle has notches in it which might have something to do with making individual contact with the piezo for each string. I seem to remember deciding not to mess with that and filed the top of the saddle instead. Take your time. If you do attack the bottom, make it squared off otherwise you'll get poor physical contact with the piezo, resulting in uneven output. I had to fix an electro acoustic guitar recently - no signal from the low E string. This was due to the guy having a go at lowering his action but filing the bottom of the saddle squint. So basically, either shape the top to your liking or make sure the base of the saddle is flat, straight and true if you file the underside.
