+1 for lessons. I've been having them for a month or two now and it's really helped to push me on. Hadn't played a gig since December and was flagging. Having goals to work towards and having a reason to practice (as well as betterment other reasons like not to wasting the tutor's time and my money spring to mind ) have really spurred me on again. Got a rehearsal/audition/jam with a new band next Thursday, really looking forward to it. Onwards and upwards!

three point bump -
My first and current head is a Harke HA3500. It sits on an Ashdown ABM 4x10, which apart from being a bit of a huff and a puff to get it moved around/lifted on stage has been a great partner to it. I've been more than happy with this setup, it has got compliments from other players when I've shared my rig at gigs. Hartke (and whoever are handling their UK operations) are cool with me because I got my 3500 second hand and it was missing a knob. They sent me one FOC. Great service.

Still available. Ding closeups as promised: 1) On top edge as you wear the bass. I had a go at filling one of them but it didn't work out (it's filled, but far from invisible) 2) Several small dings on rear of body 3) One on the underside of the neck between the first and second frets. It's near the fingerboard so you probably won't feel it when you're playing. 4) One in the front near the selector switch Only the ones on the top edge I would consider to be deep and substantial, none of them are through to the wood. But I've blown them all up so that no-one is disappointed or feel they have been misled.

Modding's fun, but it's not for profit. You put all the fancy pants parts you like in a budget bass and it's still a budget bass. That's how the market will see it. You will struggle to get anything like the money you paid out for the parts, and don't forget the time it takes to scutter about with the bass - time is money but don't expect to get any return on that either. Did I mention it's a lot of fun and can bring one great satisfaction to create out of something fairly inexpensive an instrument that punches well above its weight? But it's still a mug's game, for all that.

I would say that the Bass V is a pretty hard bass to create a forgery of. Apart from its relative obscurity which transcends rarity to the point where most people don't even know what it is (or think it's fake anyway) and it's never been reissued - a 15 fret neck with 5 in line headstock isn't exactly an "off-the-shelf" piece.

The owner had had a go at filing down the bottom of the saddle and got it squint, meaning that it wasn't sitting flush and square in the recess. Put the bridge bottom down on a known flat surface - does it rock at all?

The ones I have tried are as follows: Mono strap - was quite comfy but I didn't really care for the metal bits, seems to me like it might ding the top your bass if it fell on it. Neotech mega strap - I really like this one - it certainly takes the sting out of my 12lb Victory Artist. I used to have it on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass, another fairly substantial beast, and it was also excellent at combating neck dive. For sale is my Epiphone Les Paul Standard with quite a few enhancements. The main one being the guts - 2x EMG-HB pickups and an EMG-BQC 3 band EQ with mid sweep. There has been a pickup selector switch fitted in the usual Les Paul position (the stock model never had this) and finished off with some tasteful John East knobs. Modding's a mug's game I will also supply it with a Mono strap (essential for keeping neck dive at bay) and a gig bag. It was photographed with TI Jazz flats on it but it is currently strung with some (I think) Ernie Ball roundwounds. Cat not included, sorry. I'm not looking for any trades, sale only.
