1. I use T-Cut on guitar bodies. I would have no qualms about using it on a modern poly finish. Obviously don't use it on oiled/waxed finish.

3. I think the sheer novelty of being in a specialist bass department/shop would shield me from the displeasure of being spoken down to in one, at least the first time
4. I wouldn't mod it, but it's not my bass.

6.
D'oh! Clover. Chrome. If you can tell me where to measure I can tell you the measurements. Ta, like.
It's the tuner post width that measurement refers to, the metal part that pokes out of the front of your headstock where you wrap your strings around. See here (the 2 diagrams at the bottom): https://www.hipshotproducts.com/files/all/ultralites.pdf
7. Which kind are they? 1/2" or 3/8"? Clover or Y key? What colour?

10. I had an excellent time this weekend - Saturday was a great laugh, excellent company, good food. I was saved from a hangover by a beer which just wasn't agreeing with me at the curry house, it put me off for the rest of the night. So I came home with a six pack of Guinness, bonus! Sunday was the usual mix of bass geekery, but with the added twist of having a house band. Some awesome jams were the result and I was blown away by the playing. I didn't quite have the nerve to have a go myself, maybe next time I got to try some basses I've never played before (some of which I'll never be able to afford/justify) and although there was a little less gear than last time I think that was a good thing in that there was more emphasis on playing than just perving. Thanks to Shaun and Bertie for the high notes and percussion, and thanks to Laurence and Jay for the double bass demo. Although it was a little bit beyond me, it gave me the feeling that I ought to learn a bit more about why I play what I play. I remembered to take a few piccies, apologies for the poor quality, phone camera isn't the best: Dave and his helicopter simulator: Paul taking aim: Shaun nodding along to the beat Dave Perry: the oasis of calm The Mo'phatt Trio laying down the grooves: My bass is bigger than ALL of yours:
11. Theo bought a Tokai Thunderbird, paid promptly and the whole transaction went smooth as you like. I would not hesitate to deal with him again in the future.
12. I have this sneaky suspicion that couriers in general treat pickups from/deliveries to commercial addresses a bit more seriously than residential ones.
13.
I've always gone with Interparcel up to now who offer good insurance... but I've been getting increasingly hacked off with them (and DHL) for poor delivery times then not giving a flying feck about customer care like they used to. I'd go with Parcelmonkey if I were you.
I've been using the UPS backed Interparcel services recently - 2 deliveries, one standard, one economy, both got there next day (well the economy one was picked up yesterday and is "out for delivery" today).
14. It depends what you mean by "worth". If you mean financial worth, no way. You will never get your money back on modifications. If you mean to do it for your own personal amusement or to learn more about modding/repairing basses then yes, it is a most worthwhile enterprise. With that in mind, keep all the original parts, if you decide it's not for you then put it back the way it was (if possible) and flog the replacement parts separately, this will minimise the financial loss. Or keep the parts for another project, if you get bitten by the bug
15. This is not exactly a scam as I got a full refund, but I thought you should all be wary of the following bass/seller: Yamaha BB614 Electric Bass Guitar Natural http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220585596566 eBay item number: 220585596566 seller: chrisisnever (0) He mentioned a missing knob, but described it as "excellent condition". When it arrived, the blend pot was loose (as in rumbling around loose) and when I went to tighten it (hoping and praying that it was the only issue) I found this: A plug in test reveals no output from the neck pickup. I have a good idea where the wire should go, and if that had been the only problem, I'd have fixed it and not another word said. Then as I inspected the body I found this: Noting a scuffed area on the zip on the bottom of the gigbag it came in, I hypothesise that it had been dropped onto a hard surface while in the bag, causing an indentation from the zip and subsequent lacquer cracking. Excellent condition? I think not. Anyway, he held up his hands (almost) immediately. I've been refunded and it's going back today but I thought you all should be aware in case he lists it again without modifying his description.
16.
This bass will be at the Moffat Bass bash this coming weekend if anyone would like to try before they buy.
Superb news, I've never even seen a Rickenbacker up close and personal, but I've always wondered what it would be like.
17. I had a TKL case for my Takamine acoustic bass, I believe it was the 7868: http://www.tkl.com/site_item_details.php?p...ustic+Bass+Case Good fit for the Takamine: No idea where to get one, the case came with the bass when I bought it 2nd hand.
18. I had a DeArmond Starfire for a while, it had a pleasant, woody sound to it, light on the shoulders of course, and looked really nice. Short scale though, I ended up selling it for that reason. In the long scale department, I fancy giving an Epiphone Jack Casady signature a shot at some point.
19. Don't use the truss rod to adjust your action, it's for adjusting the relief in the neck - not the same thing at all.
