Seems like a really great stand but just toooo big for me anyone fancy swapping a similar but smaller stand like a warwick rockstand?
Are you still wanting to store up to 5 instruments?
2.
Yep but you have to have a drill press to do it. No matter how skilled you might be the holes will look sh*t when they come through the other side if you do it freehand.
+1 Drill press essential. I did a Squier Bronco and attached the bridge, drilled through the small hole all the way using the holes in the bridge as a guide, then took off the bridge, flipped it round and then centred the big drill bit on the small holes and drilled the recesses for the ferrules. A tip from the voice of bitter experience - make sure you drill down far enough for the recesses, it's devilishily difficult to get the big bit back into an existing hole exactly if you need to go back. Measure the ferrule, mark the drill bit with tape at the appropriate depth, or use the depth gauge on the drill press if it's good enough. No problem if you go a bit deeper, but don't end up shallow! I'm guessing that your friend won't need told this though.
3. Ha ha, I had forgotten about this. Nice work Jon, looks good. Perhaps a tripod thread would be a good addition?
4. Can you tell me the dimensions of the neck at the nut? I have a feeling it's 38mm. If it is, how deep is the neck at that point? I can handle the lack of width if there's substantial depth at the back.
5. I am a multiple bass owner, but on a related note - I agreed with a mate that despite my weird Gibson bass fetish if I could only keep one of my current basses it would be the G&L Tribute L-2000.
6. I think it's 5 at this time: Epiphone Les Paul (Not So) Standard Gibson G-3 Gibson Victory Artist G&L Tribute L-2000 Home made thing
7. Dunno, but if anyone sees winning lottery tickets in their crystal ball, let me know
8.
Sorry BigRedX, I've placed a VISIT THIS THREAD INSTEAD message on the other one. Thanks for the advice anyway - and apologies for putting you to any trouble. On the amp front. I've opened it up and the socket is soldered on with just three wires. As I'm rubbish with a soldering iron, our keyboardist (who has a degree in electrical engineering before anyone gets too concerned) has offered to replace the socket. I just need to make sure I get the right part.
Am I to take it from that statement that you no longer require me to open up my amp this evening?
9.
I planned to go into a guitar shop before Sunday to purchase them but I'm sh*t scared of these places. They are usually run by conceited tw*ts. Being a girl too, they just assume you're stupid. Any pearls of Wisdom for me before I set off to locate soime strings? Also, I'm in NW London so if anyone can recommend a non tw@tty guitar shop, even better! Cheers
Buy online, problem solved. Both Stringbusters and Strings Direct usually get strings to you next day. Order soon today and you should have them in time for the weekend
10.
I appreciate that it has to be secure, but there seems to be no obvious way in. There are four screw about an inch in from each corner on the top and I presume that they hold the amp section in place. But there's a wire from the amp going down to the speaker, so if I slide the amp out, won't I be unable to get that wire back in place?
There's probably enough slack in the wire to get the amp circuitry out - how did they get it in there in the first place? Just try it - if it pulls taut before you get the amp section out then I'm wrong, but as long as you don't yank it then it won't do any harm, just put it back and try something else. If you can wait until tonight, I have one of these amps, so I'll try to remove the amp section and let you know how I get on.
11. Hmm, good question. I think I'm sitting at about £1450.
12. It's maple end to end, it weighs nearly 12lb and I'm going to use it to hit people over the head who say Gibson basses are crap. Then they can really feel the workmanship
13. I don't think that's an unreasonable price.
14. Took a while to shift my Italia, and not on here for once. Got what I wanted for it though.
15. Exciting times! Thanks a lot for taking this on, there's no way I could do it justice.
16. Looks like a Danelectro Longhorn to me.
17. Quick update: lacquer's here, and the new pickguard should arrive tomorrow
18. Buy at the bottom of that range and sell at the top of that range and you'll be laughing.
19.
It would probably be a good idea if this page from the HMR&C site was stickied or added to the appropriate Wiki page.
It's been there since Feb 2008.
20. Long since given up on selling on eBay. Most sales go through here but I've done Gumtree and the last bass I sold went on Preloved because no-one was biting here
21.
Bit of a noob question, but I can't find the relevant information on the internet and... I... Uh... Don't really know an accurate way to measure it... I'm planning on fitting a hipshot bass extender so need to know the correct size If anyone knows or can tell me how to measure it properly please let me know Craig
Remove one of the machines and measure the hole at the back?

23.
Hi I just started playing in this new formation, originally was asked to dep for the bass player. Now she's a newbee on bass, playing a strat style Squire short scale. Now it looks like it's going to become a two-bass project (yes seriously we like odd stuff down here), her playing the short scale and me the long scale (Yamaha with a DiMarzio passive P pickup and Rotos through Markbass). Sounds interesting already as the two instruments really sound words apart. Now I start wondering about short scale basses. My suspicion is that where the A on the long scale is at 110Hz, the short scale centers around 220Hz? does the short scale actually relate to the long scale like a cello to a double bass? I am posting this since I can't find much on short scale basses here (maybe I've been missing a thread)?. What do you play, how do you string them? And then the question for us is of course how to make an interesting sound combination with a long scale and a short scale bass. We'll be trying some odd effect things out, like routing the short scale through an envelope filter while the long scale plays sub. Ideas? Experiences? Cheers!
A short scale bass is only around 4" difference in scale length to a standard scale bass. The pitch is the same, they are tuned the same, the strings are shorter, in my limited experience of them I have found that string tension seems a bit less, but I have got some nice sounds out of them (I have used a Squier Bronco and an Epiphone EB-0) with some changes in pickups/hardware (strat lipstick pickup in the Bronco, DiMarzio Model One in the EB-0) (modified 4 saddle bridge for Bronco, Hipshot Supertone for EB-0).
24.
However, compared to playing the cheap nasty plastic Ibanez (which he loved, none the less) the stingray felt like playing a brick.
Man up?
25. I recently sold a bass to someone, not on here but through the classified ad site Preloved. Lots of comms beforehand, buyer paid with bank transfer, I sent it, tracked it, it got signed for. I sent the buyer a message later on in the day it was delivered (last Friday) to check that all was well and have heard precisely nothing since. The question is, does one just assume that everything is hunky dory (as they'd soon be on the blower if the bass hadn't turned up/been unsatisfactory)? It just nags at me that I haven't had word back that they are happy with it. Maybe I should stop worrying about the little things in life, but I do seem to focus on details at the expense of the big picture.
