I never use the active settings on mine, it really doesn't need any help being heard Yes, series mode does give you a higher output. If your amp has an active input or a pad switch then maybe try using that, even though the bass is inherently passive? Otherwise, set the amp input gain accordingly so that your preamp isn't clipping. I swear by Fenders me, as far as I'm concerned they're the only basses worth considering, all others are failed derivatives of the original blueprint.

You do get switchable 1x12 cabs - admittedly the only one I know is the Hartke HyDrive which is switchable 4/8ohms. Of course, if you use two of these you'd better make damn sure you've got the switches in the 8 ohm position if you're using them in parallel with a min 4 ohm amplifier

Saturday's gig was a good un - we were playing at Macduff Arts Centre, a lovely former church, a great sounding room. Privileged to be on the same bill as Martin Stephenson, who was terrific, really enjoyed his set. The audience had thinned a little when it came to our turn (understandable, some people were there with kids), but those who stayed danced about like eejits Highlight of the night for me was me starting the bass riff to Bring Down the Birds to a resounding and hearty "YEAH!" from someone in the audience I took the Yamaha BB614 for a spin that night, and it sounded great through my RedSub head and Zoot cab - no PA support required - and got compliments from the sound guy about it too. Sweet. Here's a pic of the stage (during Martin's set): Dunno yet if there are any pics/vid from the night of us, if I find them I'll put them somewhere appropriate.

To be fair, the seller has enabled Best Offer...

They have their fans, but I wasn't impressed. I tried a modern day reissue, can't comment on the original ones. I found it rather uninspiring - a bit weak and anaemic on any setting. Pretty meh all round. The Gibson G-3 which I tried at the same time blew it away when played through the same amp. So I bought the G-3!

Looks like a Yamaha BB of some sort. My guess is a BB1200 because of the bridge, inlays and pickup surround. I don't think the pickguard is standard.

I practice at work in my lunch hour as well as at home, I take fortnightly lessons AND I like having multiple basses. I'm still a tadpole of a wannabe bass player, I buy basses because I like having them and that's about all there is to it. Bass monogamy doesn't (in my opinion) make a person a superior bass player, call me paranoid if you will but that's what this thread is starting to smell like. It just means they have less basses than me. Oh well. Yay, you play bass too

I didn't think I was good enough to join my first band, but I took a deep breath and went for it anyway. Turned out I was good enough. You say you're having lessons - you're already ahead of where I was when I joined my first band Take a look around, find a band who is 1) looking for a bass player and 2) plays music you like. Then get stuck in there and make that position yours. You'll look back and wonder what all the fuss was about.

[/quote] Turning this argument on its head - all basses project the same level of mediocrity when I play them, so I can have as many as I like and take whichever I like to the gig, no-one's going to notice, and no-one (apart from the small subset of society that is bass players) is going to care as long as they can hear/feel it. Making a choice of which bass to play steals maybe 30 seconds from my day. I don't sit there for hours pondering it

It's not the cable being pushed in enough, it's the entire power socket/fuse/switch assembly which wiggles a bit. Umm, I don't really care about amps as much as I do basses, so here's an incredibly short list compared to some folks on here: Laney HCM30B - 30W practice amp (first amp) (still got it) Ibanez GA1B - 4W tiny practice amp (sold) Hartke HA3500 head and Ashdown ABM 4x10 Hartke HA3500 head and Zoot 4x10 RedSub BT5110 combo with removable head The Hartke and the Ashdown are in the process of being sold. Nowadays I use the RedSub combo for small stuff and remove the head and use it with my Zoot cab for the big stuff.

Perhaps taking a day off work to stay in to get it collected by courier to sell to a wider audience might have to be the way to go, despite your reticence to do so... Things just aren't shifting, even at silly prices. I've been sitting on a spare rig for weeks now, got a local guy saying he will buy it at the end of the month, but that's dependent on someone buying something of his, yada yada etc.
