I don't know what you'd call it actually. Two things inspired me. The back pack vibrating box thingy you stick on your strap, and the board you sit your chair on which is a big flat vibrating bass speaker thingy. I baulked at the price of either but got to thinking. The result of my cogitation? This is a 100w 4ohm audio exciter or transducer or something like that. Cost about 14 quid delivered. Screwed it to the underside of my seat. Hooked it up to an amp. Sent a line out to my headphone amp (Zoom B1on). Stuck on my headphones... and there was a small explosion 💥 Not really. It actually worked. One of my inventions is actually brilliant. I live with an elderly relative who sometimes dislikes it when the peas dance off her dinner plate if I'm rehearsing. So silent practice is the norm. This takes it to another level. It's extraordinary. The bass becomes complete. Mids and tops in the cans everything else everywhere else at once, and barely audible in the room. It's wonderful. You can have any setting you want, from mild buttock shake to full personal violation. I'm off for another go.

Yeah, that could happen but by the time I packed it all away I was left with a daunting box full of pedals and a spaghetti of cables. May take a lot if courage to do it all again!

It won't be. They reserve the right to not use anything they don't like the look of.

I was looking at that Fishman pedal Al put up for sale, always fancied something like that. I like as few people in a band as possible, but this can produce compromises when choosing a set. The most expendable has usually been the lead guitarist. Not an anti guitar prejudice; show me a genuine rhythm guitarist and I'm a happy man. But a sloppy rhythm player who lives to play long tedious solos is not getting their hands on a share of the loot. So, like many before me, I've wondered if I couldn't fatten out the sound when the keys, mandolin, horn or whatever, takes the lead. I don't want to buy more pedals so looked at what I already have. I bunged my Joyo XVI into a loop on my Tri Parallel Mixer and turned up Octave up. Then my Digitech Ricochet set to a 5th up in its own loop and blended them just so. The main board is in series which I put after the TPM. I have to stomp two buttons simultaneously with this set up but I usually do anyway so I'm kind of turning my clumsiness to my own advantage. The reason this works so well is the TPM. I'm not changing the signal with one pedal then feeding that into another, which results in a rapid degradation in quality. Both pitch shifting pedals work on the clean signal from the bass. The flexibility of having tone, and send and return levels for each individual loop is great and I still retain a master /clean blend at the end. For my experiment I fed the whole lot to one output, but in a live situation the 'guitar' section would have its own dedicated amp and cab (I Bi-amp anyway). Not that I forsee much live work with ongoing health issues forcing me to remain home. This kind of project is a great fun distraction though. Of course the TPM has a third loop, so if I can score another pedal with can hit a reliable and clean 5th up, I could use the Ricochet to play a 4th below.

Basschat Relay - Tamworth to the south west

If the bass is in an accident, well that's on me. I can't (for health reasons) drive the distances involved, and this is a fun way to interact with members of the community. Nothing more. Sometimes someone really wants a bass but the seller won't use couriers, or the buyer won't if it's a particularly special or expensive instrument. No one I trust more than a bass player from Basschat to look after a bass. This is a Quixotic, whimsical, enjoyable alternative to playing Russian Rouletter with Hermes. -
It may frustrate you Bill, and be a 'dead horse' to you but to those of us who are interested in the subject it is a fascinating topic. The two above yours were illuminating, useful and interesting. If it annoys you so much and no one seems to respond to your input it is a little odd you keep returning to the thread.

Thank you. That explains it perfectly.

I like it a lot. Headstock is more disappointing than than actually horrible. But still enough to ruin the aesthetic.

The one I didn't get, don't know why. Had the B1on, B3, and MS-60B, but skipped this and went straight to the B1 Four. So I'm keen to hear about it.

Mine did 5 hours plus with quite a few more pedals and charging a phone! But never mind the battery life and the lack of an extension lead and power cable the hours spent trying to find if a power supply is really isolated... its the silence. The pure blissful absence of any extraneous noises. No hums no whistles, no whines. Its bliss.

What you said made perfect sense. I was kinda joking. If this thread now shuffles off quietly having served its purpose then fine. If it runs to 97 pages and goes over stuff already covered elsewhere - so what? That's how the Internet works.

But we all have our favourite experts though. 🤦🏼♂️

That certainly was not my intention. In fact I opened by saying I understand why and how they're used I just wanted to know how to choose one if you wanted to buy one. Might start one about whether compressors actually do anything next.

This is fascinating stuff, thank you to everyone who has contributed to the discussion. My knowledge has deepened, however I am a little confused. A strong body of opinion suggests PA cabs/ powered monitors may not be great for bass, while others go out gigging with them quite happily. Or is it those who gig with them only use them for monitoring and not as backline?

Best soldering iron/solder for use in wiring a bass

I saw one adjustable temp with a temperature lock switch and a sleep function. Both of which seem sensible to me.
