2.
Both of them actually. There is a Jap Fender Jazz that I MUST have.
I cant imagine any fender to be worth getting rid of your warwicks! :S
3. You're flogging your Warwick to get a Fender?!?!?! for the love of all thats good in the world, dont do it!!!!
4. We've had a thread on which Guitarists you would like to play with/back in a jam. Same sort of thing....which drummers would you love to jam with?? 3 of my favourites Martin Valihora Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez Brian Blade
5.
I've changed the pickups, because the stainless steel frets and maple board are extremely bright to the point of sounding brittle. I hoped that a set of wizards that were the same as fitted to my spectors would tone the sizzle down compared to the Delanos that were fitted originally but unfortunately this hasn't worked. I didn't anticipate how clean the ceramic magnets were in the custom pickups fitted to the spector. The Noll 3 band parametric eq does a pretty good job in taming the super highs but the degree of intervention still bugs me. I may end up just getting the fingerboard replaced with something darker sounding like rosewood or bubinga and use brass based frets rather than stainless as used on Warwicks.
ah right :S still not happy with the sound. would a refret and passive pickups perhaps help OOI?
6. I switched to a 6 as my main bass nearly 4 years ago and havnt looked back since. I love the flexibility and extra range in given positions on the fretboard the extra strings allow I tend to gravitate towards it 99% of the time but if the gig demands it i dont mind going back to my passive 4
7. Am i right in thinking you've changed out the pickups and preamp in your shuker 6? any particular reason?
8. Guthrie Govan. most complete guitar player ive ever heard, would love to back him
9. Fantastic, I'll be there and i'll bring the 3 basses in my sig and possibly my rig too
10. I know its a long way down the line, but is this still for sale??
11. dammit.....no postage.....
12.
Sooooo many threads on this if you flick back over the pages. My vote goes to 3Leaf Groove Regulator... And now the GR2 is out I'd go for that (same pedal with blend)... Bonus is Bass Direct now stock it. I imported mine from the US and don't regret it one bit. Fat, deep and funky. Shep
yeah probably should have checked through the section instead of posting straight off will check those two out. cheers man!
13. Yo people! im on the hunt for an envelope filter, a friend recommended the EBS Bass IQ, whats the take on it here? possible alternatives? Cheers folks
14. On the right, here's mine, my '97 Streamer LX6
15. Shes an absolute stunner mate! any chance of some soundclips sometime??
16. My band 'AdelPhunk's band exam at Salford uni, December 2010
17. In no particular order. These inspire me to play every time i hear their music John Patitucci John Myung Tony Grey Matthew Garrison Anthony Jackson Patitucci, Myung and AJ were the 3 players that inspired me to switch to 6 string bass. its been 3 1/2 years and ive never looked back
18.
Are you using the gear in your signature to get that sound?
Yes, all EQ etc. bypassed on the bass (modded indie 606) and the amp. not using my effects in my signal chain atm. its fairly close, not exact
19. At the moment my sound is fairly close to Anthony Jacksons. If i had to change i would go for something close to Tony Grey (fodera not Yamaha)
20. 'Tear Your Playhouse Down' - With Pino Palladino on bass. Phenomenal fretless bass playing
21. hmmmm.......for me it would either be the Matt Garrison signature Fodera (in chesnut with chesnut heelblock) or the Warwick P-Nut III
22.
It really does depend what the sound is like, what the venue is like, whether I know the guys that are playing etc. I try so hard not to judge a band too hard but it's difficult when you're constantly thinking "I wouldn't have played it like that" or "he's hit a wrong note, it hurts" and so on, but I just try and enjoy the show. I went to see my mate's band play the other day, the group before had a bass player seemed to think that he could make up for terrible timing issues and bad playing with a six string bass and more volume. By that stage I found myself wandering to the the bar to order another red bull.
where was that out of interest? my guitarist was watching a gig on the 19th and said the same thing!
23. Ive had a noodle on this bass and its a real beauty!! buy from Matt with confidence, he's a top top bloke to deal with
24.
Well, I can't agree by any means that Grey's 'sense of melody' is better than Janeks - it's just different. Janek has both huge knowledge and sense of melody as he studied piano for a long time, and you can hear it in his playing/compositions. Now, compositions - Grey can make more complex compositions but if its complex it doesn't have to mean its better. Well at least it doesn't make me to listen to the man at all.. All in all, if you compare the three (and they're all too different to compare, I suppose..), then, I think, that Janek is no doubt most melodic player (I was gonna suggest the same thing Doddy said - try singing Hadriens, Tonys and janek's lines and you'll get it..), while Hadrien is most technical, and Tony, hmmm.. compositions maybe?
ive never disputed or questioned Janeks knowledge of music, i just think Tony Greys compositions and melodic writing are better. Having transcribed tunes by both players, I dont find that Tony Greys lines are any harder to remember or sing
25.
I think 'Chasing Shadows' is a really good album, and I'm not knocking Tony Gray,he's a great player. I can just sing more of Janeks tunes. Hadrien however,is a frighteningly good player, but I find his album so hard to listen to. It's just a flurry of chops, with no real melodic content.
Its cool, i get what you're saying +1 there, i think Hadriens bass day '08 slot (the one on youtube) is an excellent case in point
