1. I can't see anyone putting a 78 P on ebay starting at around £150.00 unless they had no idea about the bass. I am certainly aware of starting stuff low to get lots of bidders in, I do that with stuff I sell, but something like that I would certainly have a higher starting price. And why no strings? I guess that's not going to be good for the neck in the long run.
2. I can't believe the seller is as naive as they make out. Do you think this is dodgy? 78 P in Oly White. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1978-FENDER-PRECISIO...=item4ceca116de Well if anyone is near Willsden Green it's got to be worth pushing them for a view of it.
3.
They do... http://shop.absolute-guitars.co.uk/ashdown...-cab-1010-p.asp Good price too.
Oh! Nice touch, cheers for that. It'a always good to see retail outlets with more up to date info than the actual manufacturers site!
4. I was looking earlier and noticed that, pity cos the whole thing is too damn big otherwise that would be my target gear.
5. Well, I did bid for it, but it went beyond my budget. For once I was very strict on my limit, having to factor in shipping, VAT and duty. The price it went for would have pushed me too far. I am gutted though, this is going to me my jinxed target for a many years I think. Missed two now.. lets hope it's third time lucky!! Also know I am aware of the forward shipping companies, that does open up my market further. And thanks to all the help and kind offers too. This forum does reafirm that bassists really are the best and nicest bunch of musos around . Excuse me now, I'm just shuffling of to a dark corner for a quiet sob.... Mark
6. Cheers, I think I might have a snoop around. I like the idea of a 2x10 and a 1x15 or maybe 2x 2x10. Only need one for rehersals, both for gigs. I am squeezed for storage space, room in my car and a knackered old back too!
7. I just can't get my head around this valve volume/output thing. My small brain does not calculate 30W of valve being the same as 500W of SS. OK I get how if you drive tubes hard then you get crunch.. but how does 30=500? Help!
8. Sweet. I have the a growing urge to move to something like that cabwise. So do you feel you are getting more balls from the new set up over your old (was that the 4x10?). Tell me a bit more about the non eq option you are going with? what do you have stuff set to? Might have a go at something similar and see
9. Hey!! Thanks for the mail forwarding sites, I had totally forgotten about these, this opens things up a bit! Anybody have any good or bad experiences to report on using these sort of facilities? Ta M.
10. Thanks all. Yeah, my only hope of sneaking it by customs would be to bring it back personally I guess.. "yes Mr Customs & Excise Man, it's been with a friend who has been touring with it and did some repair work for me too.." Stupid $/£ exchange rate too, it all adds up, but sometimes all sense just goes out the window!! Anyway, TBH I don't think he is going to change his mind ref shipping, so I'll just pine away..
11. Hi OK I have had a dig around in the courier guide and other threads, but as a quick and dirty, could anyone give me a guide to the cost of shipping a bass in a hardshell case from the US to UK. I am hoping to argue the guy selling the Ric I want to ship, but I need an idea of the nasty shipping costs. So a Ric 4003 in it's case.. insured to a value of let's say £1800. (not looking for dodgy budget nonsense!!!!). Ta muchly
12. To far away for me then!
13. I mean, if he is shipping in the US then he'll have to package it well to withstand possibly a good 1000 miles + in the back of various delivery trucks. So what's the deal with packing it to go on a plane? He'll have collected by a courier to take to the airport anyway. Pfffft
14. So where are you based and what stuff are you doing?
15. It's breaking my heart..... I've even started to ask a few people at work if they have close relatives in the States that would help.
16. Ohhhh!! I thought my so far fruitless search was about to come to an end - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true but the seller will only ship in the US.. BOOOOOOO!!! Anyone happen to be in the US in the next few days?!?!?!
17. It's an "it" for me. The "she" thing does make sense to me. Not with boats, cars etc either.
18. Hmm.. the BTA 300 could just be spot on, will it be an Ampeg 300 SVT CL killer? Hate to think what the pricing will be though
19. Aye, the search continues then!
20. Here's a couple of pics he's emailed me. Not much better! The shot of the body looks like the jack end of the scratchplate has been broken at some point and if this is a '74 wouldn't there be a screw in the middle of the scratchplate too? As is, the serial number - s746580 - is a 77 or 78, so he's got the year somewhat wrong. I did ask some other questions about originality, if he has pics of the neck pocket and the neck stamp but nothing on those. Not feeling overly comfortable about this seeing as I'm not going to get a chance to see it first.
21.
I was there too, ears ringing for days afterwards............Killed by Death - Brilliant
Or "Killed By Deaf" ... I'll get me coat...
22. I'm not sure what type of system it is. I'm thinking unpluging the mic would trip it so that option may be out. Maybe a combo of bar towel and turning the mic the other way might help. They say they have had bands and dicsos there before.. but that doesn't really prove anything.
23. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2761.l1259 Not much info, crappy pics.. has to be too good to be true?!?! What do you think? I have a hankering for an early - late 70's P in B/B/M. I have asked for the seller to email me more pics, so we'll see what arrives.
24. Glad you enjoyed it Mr Marlin! And good to hear DV made an effort! I am kicking myself that I didn't do the Bournemouth gig now. Ah well, seeing the NY Dolls on Sunday
25. We have an up and coming corporate do (for where I work) and I had a look at the venue and damn me but they have one hanging from the ceiling about 10ft from the stage area. I was wondering if whether we could unplug the mic from the cable where it is fixed to the ceiling, or turn the mic so it faces away from the band, or possibly gaffa a bar towel around the mic. Do you think the later might work? It's ceratinly going to muffle what is picked up. I'm stressed about it now as I'm up on stage in front of my peers, work mates and some higher management! Wonder if ther'll be a P45 waiting for me at the end of the gig!
