I've got a very old 200w 15" ABM combo. One of the first couple of hundred apparently. It's been a good amp but has given me some problems in the last couple of years (home practice only with it now) where the volume just drops away almost totaly. If you turn it on and off a couple of times then it's OK again, but no idea for how long. Also sometimes when turning it on it buzzes badly, again the on/off trick usually works. Not investigated what the problem is. Otherwise, I've had no problems with it. A good solid old amp.
Last time i saw The Damned was at the Glasgow Apollo when they toured The Black Album, they had began to dispappear up their areholes by that time but it was a sh*t hot gig with loads of dry ice as i recall. Think it may have been some band with Keith Levine in it that supported...or was it Lydons brother' band?, know that they had some sort of PIL connection or other.
Hey, that rings a bell with me. I saw The Damned doing the Black Album tour too, and now you mention it, I think the support had Keith levine in it.. I seem to remember a name The Straps.. but I'm not sure. Off to do some research!

It really does amaze me how completely thick some people are when it comes to this sort of thing. Presumably they have never had something sent to them thrown in a brown paper bag with illiterate scribble on the front for an address. Either that or they are looking for a few extra quid in over priced P&P. I always send an email when I buy something to ask the seller to really package it well as we have a really bad post office here who are very careless and stuff gets damaged if not packed well. The postie here as actually really good.. but it's handy to thrown in a bit of bull!

What in the name of God is JPJ playing in that second vid clip above of them live? Some fruity slide contraption. I would be much happier/acceptant of this project if they had a different front man. I just don't find Josh H cuts the mustard.. that and he just seems sooo ungainly!

68 Fender P-bass, with relic'd OW re-finish
Marky L replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
What I don't get with these relic re-fins is why not do the colour as it appear after 40+ years? You've gone to the effort of making it look worn and used, then why not go for that luvverly nicotine yellow that Oly whites go? I do sort of like this one though.. but not for that price and the aging job is a bit much. -
I have exactly the same as this bass and I can confirm it's a fantastic bass. The neck is quite wide but great to play and the hot rodded PUPs makes sense as if you look at the pole pieces you can see they are oversized, similar to SPB3 QPs and it has big sound. Had to repalce the bridge on mine as it's very corroded, and I changed the control knobs. No case with mine but I feel £400 is a fair deal for this bass especially as it's a bit different from the rest. It's all black and very sexxxxay!

+1 for Roqsolid. They tailored one up for my Ashdown Classic head some time back and it's great. Give em a shot.
I bet the ugly stick snapped when it hit that bass
I think it was actually made from the bloody ugly tree itself!

+1 on swapping the PUPs around. It highlighted where a problem lay for me. Replaced the offending set with some QPs picked up on here at a chuffing good price and we're all happy again

A liitle bit of this and a little bit of that! I usually fretboard stare more at the start as I get my cojones in order. Fannying around on stage is part of the fun of it for me but I do need to keep refering back to my fret hand just to make sure I'm in the right place. 100% it's a confidence thing.. confidence that I am play the right thing and confidence to look at the freaks in the audience. I did see a band recently where the bass player was stood right at the front for a large portion of the gig with a demented semi-baked stare... I was a bit disconcerting, even if it gave that "danger" element that good rock n roll needs to give it an edge. Totaly agree that you have to give a performance, from good songs, played reasonably well through looking good to showing you are having a good time. I drop some howlers in songs quite often but just laugh them off. I've had a number of the "man, you're a great bass player" comments, which to be honest I'm not. Decidely average with limited abilities, but I make it look like I know what I'm doing. I do have a bad habit of staring at the bloody set list though.. that seems to be my safety blanket of late. Apart from our singer who arses about a fair bit, I just wish I could get the others to mellow and let loose somewhat. Our lead guitard monkeys around in rehearsals but the nerves get him at a gig and he can be a bit fixed to the spot. Pity.
PS here's the ones I've owned '78 with retro ebony board. MONSTER
Oooh!! I've done something naughty in my undercrackers!!! I LOVE that to death! Awesome looking bass and that is EXACTLY what I want when I go for a proper fretless.

Pick thy bass and walk. Isn't that what it says??

David J from Bauhaus has been a fretless P player for a very long time. He does get quite a funsome range of tones and fruity sounds from it. Some great distorted/fuzz stuff too.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Just sweet. That Ramones clip is from the Musikladen show, recorded live and it's a fantastic blast through some of their best songs. DeeDee sure picks close up to the neck.. the complete opposite of JJ. I wonder how many new bass players were spawned due to JJ's playing style and tone. I reckon he must have a fair old number of "bass children"!!
this has given me an idea. bassist seem to be the most consistently reliable, able, enthusiastic and of course, talented of ALL the musicians. why bother searching for drummers that have no sense of time (clock AND rhythm), singers that can't sing yet think they're gods gift to us, and guitarists that don't understand that when a song finishes you STOP playing, and don't start again until the START. why not form a band where every instrument is played by a BASSIST. the most punctual, considerate, musically sensitive, dynamically aware band in excistence!
Ah, nothing would ever get done, as it would be a never ending loop of each one complementing the others on how good they are in a very considerate manner!

Anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of genuine Gibson/Epiphone parts? I want a black scratchplate for my Gibson T'bird and I really like the ones on the new Epi. I did try an aftermarket one, but it was crap. Also I do rather like the T'bird logo on the plate. Ta

Koch Amps website here - http://www.koch-amps.com/
So much for the made in heaven match of a Gibson LP and a Marshall.. I says the new perfect match is with a previously mentioned guitar range.... Koch amps and Cuntz guitars..

Encores (the last few numbers in your set, not the brand)
Marky L replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
The problem I have found a few times is you have given you're all for the set(s) and done a good gig and then when you decide yes we'll do a couple more, it can go a bit pear shaped and you end up leaving the punters with a bad impression of a knackered band limping through a couple of songs that they didn't really want to do. Needs a careful balance. Pity to leave your best for an encore that you may not get to do. -
I have exactly the same as this. I have not tracked it down as a specific model version (the Contemporary option sounds worth a follow up). I certainly do not believe it is a mongrel. The neck is wide, I forget what I measured it at but it's def a C. I find it a very playable bass and it has a great sound and look. £450 is a bit steep IMHO but I certainly worth investigating further. I replaced the bridge on mine as the original was very corroded and I put black control knobs on too and I think it looks sweet. Oh and I haven't taken the PUPs out, but they do have very large pole pieces, almost like SD Quarter Pounders. Looking at your pic, I'd say they are what was fitted originally. Don't have any good pics to post, but you can see from this one when I was gigging it that it's the same.

Hmmm.. well. When I was in a band in the earlyish 80's and had a little more youthfull exuberance things could go a bit askew! We had two bass players (myself and another) and a variety of other band members and we'd do various stuff for different songs. One of our last numbers was Hot Love by T-Rex. I was meant to do backing vox during this. Fine, except I had certainly reached my drink limit and staggering around the stage in a shambolic state the song came to the long run out.. "La la lah la la la laaaaah". Deciding to enhance this part, I began howling down the mic, whilst doing crotch wrenching high kicks, "Why don't you f**k off you c**ts". I managed to get the rest of the band to join in the kicks and the new improved vocals. Afterwards the pub manager said we'd need to tone it down a bit if we wanted to play there again! I also recall one gig where I was singing lead and decided I couldn't drink any more and threw the contents of my pint glass up in the air behind me hoping to get it on the drummer. Unfortunately my aim was well off and nearly all of it went over my bass that was propped up in the corner. It worked fine afterwards, but the beer soaked neck was not a joy to play.

Ohh!! Nightmare!! Right now.. The New York Dolls.. then and now actually. But I guess with the then option my chances of kicking the bucket would be pretty high!
