1. If you can afford it and want the hassle (?) of assesmbling it.... you effcetivley get a custom made bass to your spec.... How much would that cost from a custom builder? Dont think of it as a 'bitsa' and think of it as a custom made one off for you! Suddenly makes LOADSA sense doesnt it...... I have done an 'ultimate Strat' for my guitarist..... Its good too!
2. NO DONT DO THAT...... i'll be tempted to look at it and I havent space!
3. My best mate and guitarist, has a Les Paul which he hates...... But he's keeping it 'cause its worth a lot more than he paid for it and its still going up. Just an example, to support your decision..... maybe?
4. Isnt all that bit in the middle a straight cut and paste of someones BT review?
5. Me or the Yamaha add?
6. Good point well made! Snap-On ....... the only way to go!
7. Ahhhh but it will be the Daschunds danglies when it is!!!!
8. Hummmn you could have a good night out with Lilly Allen for less than that....... In fact you could have an EXTREMELY good night out with Amy Whinehouse for a lot less than that and be guaranteed a 5hag as shed be bladdered before 10pm!
9. ^^^ thanks for the corroboration, thats why I suggested it..... Why do peeps get so hung up about taking the neck off?
10. Take your point, but the BR DOES have bass stuff on it if you look through the menus enough. Pays your money and takes your choice..... if you ONLY want a tranier go for the Tascam, for a few squid more you get an AWFUL lot more with the BR. It wont cut out or enhance the bass track but will do the other stuff and has effects..... Will the Tascam act as a 4 track recorder????? Will it record your tracks and then convert them into MP3????? Will it record your drum machine and you playing over it??????? If the Tascam was £50 cheaper it would be superb but for (almost ) the same price as the BR ??? No contest. Sorry.
11. Initially I'd say the custom wounds.... but for 1/2 the price look at Schaller pups..... I love mine on my rebuilt Ibanez .... Lovely tone and humless.
12. ^^^ hence the shop advice..... SAOC, am I correct in saying it moves easily?????? eeeek Sounds like its broken or become dislocated (unlikely!) Either is pretty horrid for the neck and after a trip up country and the luthier job is probably gonna cost you more than a new TRB! OOOOuuuuuch!
13. +1 to the big C on this..... I've yet to find anyone at a shop that knows their way around a bass as I do. They may be able to play better or sell better, but as to taking them to bits...... As luthiers most guitar shop employees would make good brick layers! No I am not saying that is the case with ALL shop employees, as that would be a stupid crass comment. However, would I trust any of my guitars in the hands of ALL the shop employees I have met to date...... NO! As I have said above and Chris has hinted at, find someone you know that does work on thier own equipment that you trust, or do it yourself, so that you know what has been done......
14. Hummmn Mad no... Unwise-- maybe......! My suggestion FWIW is keep the performer get rid of the planky BC and get your new Yam or an Ibanez.... Its that that letting down the stable not the Fender. The Fender will only go up in value whereas the BC wont. This is of course only my opinion!
15. Can you work your way around a tool box? If not dont do this yourself..... If you can...... Slacken the strings right off, undo the 4 bolts that hold the neck on, and remove the neck. Carefully (making sure you get the thread correct) relocate the nut on the truss rod and then gently tighten until there is a very light resistance. NO MORE than that. I strongly suggest against trying to re locate the truss rod nut whilst the neck is till on the body. (if teh t-rod nut was at the head end this would be a different matter! Re assemble neck and check action. Then be more careful with it in future....
16. I have a stomach turning feeling that this should be in repairs..... but now I am so intregued to find out the grossest bass story...... Bring it on folks......... PS I've posted it now, so come on gross us out!
17. Thats just plain greed posting 3 times...... You on commission....?
18. Urrrm do the basses hum that bad anywhere else? If not you may need a new earth fitting to your house....... No its not a wind up! There should be somewhere an earth spike or strap sunk into the floor, and this MAYBE at fault..... Do you have a mate thats a domestic electrician?
19. ^^^ Nice one...... was just about to suggest that !
20. And so does Mark King I believe??????
21.
And this seems like an okay place to post to me, if it wasn't I wouldn't post just to have a pop anyhow Peter
La la la..... It wasnt in the right place where Homer put it initially, thats why I moved it.... As you see he got a reply that was relevant and quick by your good self! (why oh why did I volunteer to be a mod?)
22. Reply.... 1) Adjusting the nut height effects the hight of the action. Put simply - Lower the nut=lower action- Although you kinda need to know what you are doing not to overdo it or get it crooked......! 2) Material obviously can make a difference as can the wood of an instrument! There is a lot of folk lore about one nut material being better than another, the nut provides a break angle for the string at the neck end and is critical for the scale length. It is as important as the bridge! Without having a specific knowledge of nut material I will summise that the more dense the material the brighter the resultant tone of the string. The profile of and depth of the string slots are really important too, and crucial in this equation........ 3) Only if you have a problem with the current one, and cost depends on who does it for you. Dont DIY of you dont know what you are doing. However if you are fairly skilled with small tools, get Dan Erlewines guitar repair book and have a go on a 'junker' neck first. If you find you can do it then yes its not rocket science!
23. MiMH dont yet have anywhere near the same capacity as Li or 'normal' Alkaline..... Shame.... NiMH are very good and wont get a serious 'memory issue' like the old NiCD would, and they have a shallow discharge curve until they get to their cut off point when they go dead flat really quick with little warning...... So provided you dont use for high load applications, and you make sure they are charged properly before you use them they should be ok.
24.
Alex, your guitarist is an utter twat.
LMAO........ A real guitarist (like mine, boy am I lucky) can't wait for me to take my new toys 'round to his place so he can have a play himself..... Then he gives 'em back and says something like, "come then, gimme what you got!" Dont you just love it! smug!
25. FWIW I've only played one and found quite the inverse to neck dive...... Had to keep hold of teh neck or it ended up like an EUB....!
