1. Fabulous question, There will I'm sure be lots of advice coming your way, however, repairs and tech questions is where you want to be!
2.
No, it evaporates pretty quickly.
It certainly did when a certain Mr Hendrix started of a trend for doing this in the 60's...........
3. Gotta work this weekend..... Damn it..... And next weekend !!! Thats the Bass Bash knacked for me as well then..... Oh well, 6 years 1 month and 13 days left before retirement (not that I'm counting...!)
4. there is a couple of use ful bits in the 'build diaries' forum and this I believe would be responded to better in there...... Hope folks do you add to this, its a good idea.
5. PRS cleaning solution will get rid of it...... Its very good and non-toxic to guitars...... I have no idea whats in it and dont care.... it works....!
6. I got slapped 'round the face last time I played with a skinny neck....... Steer clear of them I say.......
7. good trustworthy chap....
8.
Mesa Boogie Walkabout
Absolutely +1...... For kinda music you play, you will be hard pushed to find a better combo.... the price you mention will get you one 2nd hand (as I did) and you will not be dissapointed..... As for the VFM comment above, why are folks willling to pay lots of money for the bass and then only 2 bob on an amp? Its like buying an F1 car and running it on budget tyres from Quick-Fit........
9. Anyone know of any other bass other than the Clovers that clamps the A,D,G string above the nut? I want to get the same break angle ( as close as I can for a 4 one side head) over the nut for all 4 strings on my Ibanez but finding a 3 string tree/bar/clamp is not easy..... Help please.....
10. One tip..... Plug the old holes with a suitable piece of shaped hard wood, and glue in with PVA glue. You may find that teh new holes are close to the old ones, driling new ones with old holes open is not advisable or indeed sensible....
11. I like 'em so much U was prepared to shell out (probably) above the market value to get one 2nd hand and rejuvonate it.... I hope you'll agree it was worth it...... [topic="4324"]teaser[/topic] PS putting Roto Tru bass 88s on her this week...... Should be awesome !!!!
12. PRS IV...... Perfection incarnate.....
13. My guess is that you have done the thinking process yourself. Ideally the fretless wants a phenolic fretboard but ths not essential and some would argue doesnt give the same tone. A proper de- fret will use some funds but then how much do you "connect" with the Warwick? If its like a glove, then maybe thats the ideal way to start fretless as it will feel very familiar to you when you try and play it. A new fretless will be a learning thing twofold..... My opinion FWIW....
14. Thats normally the case, you may want to carefully deepen the holes and then lube the screws as you put 'em in with lard (or nice silicone grease if you have some) but dont overdo this as you dont want 'em sloppy..... A teeny bit on teh bottom 2/3 threds is all thats neccasary, so that cutting the new thread in teh wood doesnt twist he screws off which would be bad.....
15. NORMALLY....... Maple boards are finished with lacquer (acrylic or cellulose) so my guess is its the polish.... Unless someone has used a magic tree as a shim in the neck pocket.....
16. What type fret board do you have? It could have been treated with Lemming Oil? BTW, PRS polish smells very nice.... Polish mine twice a year and they smell lovely after for a few weeks...
17. Dont limit yourself by saying it has to Blk/blk maple. Black body+ maple neck yes..... Pickguards are pretty cheap and dead easy to fit.... Just find one you like and if you have to swap the p/g.......So be it.... Believe me it opens up Loads more options!!!!!!
18. Good grief, what a peice of 5h1te...... ! PLease re assure me that on one is going to bid on that ....!
19. I firmly believe that the one thing that Leo got right was the scale length with the P. The std P neck diemensions (for me) are perfect but I understand others leaning toward a narrower faster neck. Lots of that original design are now very much superceeded because of material technology, and electronics being smaller faster cleverer etc. HOWEVER, none of this takes into account fashion and MOJO. SO the question I chuck into this smorgasbord is... "Why, when there are so many other excellent basses available, is the P more popular than ever (with the exception of the EMO/Thrash/Death metal, scene) ?" Just watch Mtv for an hour, and you will be hard pushed to see anything other than a Fender P or J...... We all on here have every make under the sun, but everybody has at least one or hankers after one of thier fave Fenders..... Answer that question and you have answered the original question above....!
20. I have a Zoom MRT 3, and its a cinch to use and produces a useful range of drum sounds. Keeps time better than a Swiss watch and is WAY more reliable than a real drummer!
21. My advice FWIW is go and play and ace it..... (bass players are s'posed to be the dependable ones ) When everyones on a high afterwards, buy the 'superstar' a drink and point out to him that its rude not answerin' his fone, and whelching on your practice agreement. Tell him you'd consider playing for him again, but only if he keeps his word......Watch him squirm! Oh the pshycology of guilt....... I love it! Good luck tonite....
22. ^ Thank you kind sir, all that stuff at College did go in then...... My God, if my old tutor could hear me saying that he'd be as smug as a dog with 2 willies!
23.
I don't understand why anyone would pay this much for a Fender when you can buy a Lakland, which has a far better build quality, better playability and is a more flexible and better sounding bass, for less money.
Because, (and whilst I agree in principle with you) your statement doesnt take into account the all important critical factor in music...... Fashion..... Spend wisely on a Fender, look after it and it will hold or increase in value, just because,--- well, its a Fender. There are MUCH better guitars about that dont cost as much as exotic Fenders, however whilst the market is still driven by trends they (the other better makes ) will always just be 'other comodoties' that depreciate in value accordingly.
24. ^^IIRC ic causes the solder to solidify too quickly causing the lead to crystalise and leading (potentially) to what is known as a 'dry joint' -- This is bad, and hence the beatings..... 30 yrs of messing about with model cars, planes and boats has taught me that rushing soldering is not a good idea.... Anyhoo.... check this out..... v.useful.... http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Practical_Electronics/Soldering
25. MD, thanks..... They are bit unknown to me, I dont know of anyone that has their axe strung with them..... B.
