Reply.... 1) Adjusting the nut height effects the hight of the action. Put simply - Lower the nut=lower action- Although you kinda need to know what you are doing not to overdo it or get it crooked......! 2) Material obviously can make a difference as can the wood of an instrument! There is a lot of folk lore about one nut material being better than another, the nut provides a break angle for the string at the neck end and is critical for the scale length. It is as important as the bridge! Without having a specific knowledge of nut material I will summise that the more dense the material the brighter the resultant tone of the string. The profile of and depth of the string slots are really important too, and crucial in this equation........ 3) Only if you have a problem with the current one, and cost depends on who does it for you. Dont DIY of you dont know what you are doing. However if you are fairly skilled with small tools, get Dan Erlewines guitar repair book and have a go on a 'junker' neck first. If you find you can do it then yes its not rocket science!

MiMH dont yet have anywhere near the same capacity as Li or 'normal' Alkaline..... Shame.... NiMH are very good and wont get a serious 'memory issue' like the old NiCD would, and they have a shallow discharge curve until they get to their cut off point when they go dead flat really quick with little warning...... So provided you dont use for high load applications, and you make sure they are charged properly before you use them they should be ok.
Alex, your guitarist is an utter twat.
LMAO........ A real guitarist (like mine, boy am I lucky) can't wait for me to take my new toys 'round to his place so he can have a play himself..... Then he gives 'em back and says something like, "come then, gimme what you got!" Dont you just love it! smug!

FWIW I've only played one and found quite the inverse to neck dive...... Had to keep hold of teh neck or it ended up like an EUB....!

tascam mp3 bass trainer or boss micro br
The Burpster replied to steve's topic in Accessories and Misc
Not tried both, but have and use a BR. Its a top bit of kit! Bear in mind that the Tascam is a guitar model and not yet a Bass specific, so the effects will be all guitar stuff. It will probably NOT cut out teh correct frequencies for the bass as the CD BT Mk II does either. My advice is if you desperately need to evaluate teh Tascam wait unitl the Bass specific MP3 comes out.... or...... get a BR now.... -
Hummn, in which case it might be time for a PUP upgrade. A pic of the pups in question would be very useful, however IMO I dont think you'll be able to do what you want to do with the std pups. Check out the Schaller JBX pups that will give your Jazz a lift and be adjustable!

better still buy a set and put 'em on ....... Unless you are a 'popper & slapper extraordinare' I guarentee you'll love the sound!

SGC Nanyo Bass Collection FRETLESS
The Burpster replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Nice one Chris..... -
My advice still is kinda the same..... Even tho its only a cheapy, if you can, play it first. You might find a J neck a bit fiddly after the P's..... I cant get on with them. (but then I'm a big clunky ham fisted muppet!)

Anyone cut their own pickguard?
The Burpster replied to loudandclear's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thank you guys..... It plays better than it looks........ Well worth the investment!!! L&C---- PM me I'll give you quick break down..... -
+1 with the ferret on this ....... Value depends entirely on the quality of the build...... It could be a pile of 5hite, worth less than any one of teh components...... It could be a gem with more Mojo than Howling Wolf, and worth several hundred squids.... You gotta see and play (with) it! Thne you wil know how much you are prepared to spend on it. However parting with a P bass is not a good idea IMO, you'll regret it!

as Homer would say....... "...... Mmmmmmm P-bass, Flats..........!"

If thet are adjustable poles then an Allen key is all you need. You can of course alter the whole pup hieght but thats not what your asking. If they are not adjustable poles (ie grub scew with Allen socket in teh top) re setting the height is a major feat of engineering that will proabably destroy themin the process... Pics would be useful!

Anyone cut their own pickguard?
The Burpster replied to loudandclear's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yep I have done 3 now, its quite time consuming but deeply satisfying looking at the result knowing you have created it! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4324&hl=teaser -
I'm not really sure where else you would get a response maybe in bass general above..... However in response to your question, in my experience ParcelForce have proved to be the cheapest by quite some way from the UK, all the others are (DHL UPS etc) are all LOTS more money to send to Europe and USA. Sorry thats not much help is it....

We (I) love upgrades but you'll get more tips in the techie forum.... off you go!

Get the best of both worlds..... http://www.jhs.co.uk/kinsman.html#hardfoam I use an HFB6 and although I wouldnt recomend dropping your bass to try it, I am pretty confident that If I was so 9issed or stoopid that I did, then the bass within would still be ok! Ped, I have a Schaller on my Ibanez re-build and you are spot on...... Its ***kin' ace!

Help. stripping paint from carbon/graphite
The Burpster replied to Beedster's topic in Repairs and Technical
Chris, it shouldnt really be a problem, but it would be useful to find out how the 'finish' has been in applied, and in what order. If it has paint then resin over the top, it could be a huge problem...... However if its just a paint finish over finished carbon then its no different to removing and refinishing any other surface! Is it chipped? we may be able to work out what it is if you have a dink in it....? B. -
Well as I have a 40th Anni Custom shop model (which is essentially a nicer version of the std Am. Deluxe with whistles and bells) I can say that its a lovely guitar. Sounds are bit 'inya face' with the Lace sensors and pre amp (especially thru a valve amp) but it growls like a Lioness with PMS and will pick up all the high end stuff if you want it. Form a P-bass point of view it has a truly wonderful neck which is why I still have it. However.... I'm pretty sure with a P- Am Deluxe and a Pup change you could kick its £1300 ass out of any gig, with a big grin on yer face.....
