1. Many thanks SS. Here are some pics. More can be seen at: http://s1175.photobucket.com/user/Grangur/library/BC-pics/GDR%20bass/GDR%20neck?sort=3&page=1 If any others would be useful, please ask. As you may guess, the headstock is now veneered to give a better look, but this can come off, of course if needed, but there's nothing visible in the headstock that would give any access to the other end of the TR.
2. Hi guys, I've bought a vintage East German P Bass with a beaut of a neck. The wood is all flamed up the back and it's nice and thick. Putting the bass together just now I was tightening the truss to get rid of some fret-buzz. I was working to the Fender measurements for the action - 0.38mm at the 8th fret. All was going well until.... snap! Rude words rang out the house and it's all gone pear-shaped. Does anyone here have any experience in replacing of fixing a TR in a wheel of fortune style neck? The whole bass didn't cost me much, so it's not worth spending too much I guess? Thanks for looking Rich
3.
I find green or blue big triangle ones the easiest, .88 or 1.0 Oddly , I find it really hard to play with a pick practicing at home, but once with a band and the drummer, can really dig in and keep it solid.
Hey! THAT's what I was wating to hear!! I can't play with a pick to save my life and now I know why. I'm not in a band!!! So, THAT's what I've been doing wrong all this time.
4. You can buy wax sticks of wood filler. These come in a variety of different shades. I saw a small set of sticks yesterday in Homebase near the varnish. To use the wax you kneed ot in your fingers to warm it and make it soft. Then when its like putty you push it into the holes. In the hole it sets and goes hard. if you later want to re-fit a pick guard then the wax is removable.
5. Many thanks Howard, for the pick guard for my 1970s East German bass. You've done a nice neat job. Thanks again Rich

7. Isn't this more what the OP is looking for: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/seymour-duncan-liberator-solderless-potentiometer-500k The problem is you will probably need more space in in the body cavity to fit the things in. The best route is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrVCkEoY_8M
8. You're welcome. GLWTS. It looks a nice bass. Have a great day.
9. I've shipped a good number of basses with Collectplus.co.uk It's convenient - drop off at a local shop/garage, and get cover for up to £300 all for about £12.50. You just have to ignore their published size restrictions, they take it anyway and I've not had a problem with at least 6 I've sent.
10. Many thanks Subsonic. I'll give that a go. I can try it out on a spare off-cut of veneer.
11. If you've got cheap instruments you can take a risk on the cover, but you don't. I wouldn't leave it to chance on what gets said in a phone call. They can change the rules at any time and you'll have to re-read the small print everytime any booklet comes in with some "minor" changes. I'd go and get a quote for a proper policy. Allianz are good and well respected. http://www.allianzmusicalinsurance.co.uk/
12. I've found this book good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Bass-Complete-Full-Band-Builders/dp/0793586682/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1394454774&sr=1-2&keywords=blues+bass It has loads of blues lines, turn-arounds, ends and about 20 solos too.
13. I got a folding stool from "The Range" for £9.99
14.
Had to pass unfortunately so still available... Sorry there Grangur. Apologies.
No hard feelings mate. Thanks for the interest.
15. Hey Cool!! Glad to be of service. Cheers Richard
16. You're welcome.
17. Ahhh... that makes sense. There had to be something that's changed the software in some way. I'd recommend you install another browser and start using that. I use Google Chrome. Firefox is also good.
18. Its not impossible that Windows has installed a nice new updated version without you knowing. Look for a button on your tool bars that looks like a broken page. Have a look here: http://technology.pitt.edu/help/help-index/ie10-compatview.html
19. I know BC has had some issues when working in the latest versions of Internet Exploder. What browser are you using? (Not that I'm any expert on these things) If you're using you could try clicking the button in the menu bar for "Compatibility view", this makes IE work in a mode that's compatible with older servers - like BC.
20.
can anyone help. When I select a quote it doesn't appear in my reply to it. It used to be ok and I haven't changed any settings anywhere. Also when I type the 2nd line it misses letters or spacesat times Any ideas. I hve to type 1 lette a a t or I end up like thi ???? Dave
It seems to be working here
21. So I'm the only one who gets bored half way through then? I find the rhythm very repetitive.
22. Kent Armstrongs are Ceramic. I've got one in a Wishbass and it really barks/growls. Amazing value for £51 http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/musicman-bass-pickup-2765-p.asp
23. Hi there, This is a fretless neck. Well I bought it as that. It's probably from a Squier, but someone may set me straight on that? Good points: Nice grain Truss rod works, Neat defretting - no splintering signs. Lines filled with filler to not show the lines much. Dated May 89 Bad points: The real one for me is the truss-rod will compensate for string tension, but doesn't have enough action to get the neck flat under tension. That may not worry you, but it won't give much of a mwaaa sound without it going flat. No nut. In short it could be a nice neck for someone to try re-fretting, or it may be your thing. Or you may want to rip the truss rod out, or use it as a stick to beat intruders... (I did NOT really say that!!... but it's a better option than Oscar P's choice) Price now £18 shipped to the UK. Thanks for looking Cheers Richard
