1.
Hi mate, If you are up for spending about £50 on a M-Audio USB Midi keyboard you get free with it 'Ableton Live Lite 6' which I use, and I really like it. I did have another CD which I got with something else - I sent it to Toasted I think so you can track it down. You might be able to download it from somewhere free though. Cheers ped
Can you use the midi controller in Lite? I have heard that it doesn't respond to midi control messages..
2. I thought they were all pretty good apart from Anthony who seemed to rush it a bit. The intro jam was really nice and quite different for them so kudos to them for doing that. The end of Give it Away was wild! John looked totally out of it (/into it) and I thought he was going to smash the guitar at one point. He looked pissed off at the end of can't stop when his sound cut out. Flea and Chad were as usual on fire. Nice to see Josh playing with them - I am a massive fan of his and John's solo work and I thought he really added to the jams.
3. You might look at the Roland XV series, they have SRX expansion slots for pianos and all sorts, I haven't heard them but the samples are supposed to be very high quality. I think the 5050 has 4 outputs so you can make better use of it's multi-timbrality (?!). If you were looking to keep the cost down I would use Ableton live (an older version of) to trigger the midi clips and then have a midi interface connected to your sound modules. That will mean the computer isn't processing any audio so should keep the cpu load down and mean you don't need an awesome machine..
4. I have just been deliberating over a Mac or PC laptop for recording and Uni. In the end I went for a Lenovo (~£400) because it seemed you got more power for a lot less money. I think it will do the job and if not I can return it. My firebox should be here any day now - I'm getting pretty excited
5. I think Ive seen that Rave DVD, is it the one with members of Sly & the Family Stone? (Ahh yes it is, thanks!)
6.
Sly and Family Stone's Thankufalletinme Bemiceelf.
Oh your lucky Steve! Just looked for afterparty tickets but it's over 18's - very annoying! I suppose being a Thursday night it would be unlikely he would play too.. Can you advise me on some albums to purchase for essential listening?

South East Bash

Thanks for a great day Dave. Great to meet all of you.. the highlights for me were: Trevors G 77 - woah! Much fun although my ears were rather tired after a while, shame I missed it going through the PA.. Finally meeting Ped and his Vigiers Daves Lakland Daryl Jones and his advice on how to set my j-retro. Thanks everyone!

Excellent photo guide Dave, we have one of those for our gigs as it's such a weird location. I will be along at about 2:00 as I have some prior charity commitments. I will bring my Jap Fender Jazz with J-retro (formerly onehappybunny's who I think is also going?)
9. Shame they are quite nice basses in their own way. I started off playing one that used to belong to our old drummers dad.
Would anyone be interesting in doing something along the lines of a bass setup masterclass?
That would be a great idea! I'm certaintly not up to it but perhaps someone like OBBM might be able to share a little DIY wisdom (if thats not an oxymoron )?
It used to belong to Squarepusher.
oooh! I must say I am enjoying Hello Everything at the moment.

Marleaux

I remember Ari posting this picture of his Consat when he was selling it. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it again but it is one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen
Hi Chris! Are you going to be there? Would be cool to meet you if so... I will bring a special bass just for you to see! See you soon hopefully.. ped
Hi Ped, Yep I will definately be there, will be nice to finally meet you. And yes please do bring the bass! Chris
13. I used to rehearse with our guitarists 212 combo where we would use it for vocals, bass and guitar. It was 120 watts but plenty loud enough and it weighed a ton. I played outside at a party with it recently used exclusivley for bass - fantastic sound! Bear in mind this is a guitar combo, really nice vintage tone with my jazz in passive mode and using the 'valve sound' selector I was able to dial in two different flavours of distortion which really fitted some of the RATM songs we did.. If it weren't so big and heavy I would use it more often

ehx micro q tron +

I found that on the HC forums - looks great! I would love to try one, I'm a big fan of squishy effects
15. The demo version of Ableton Live will do that and more, might seem overkill but it's a great practice tool.
Hopefully I will be able to come too, having an operation on Monday so may be recovered enough in time. What better to get me back on my feet than a bass fest?
Best of luck with the operation! Hope you can make it

Single or Multi

I really fancy trying a Lexicon MX200, seems cheap and well equipped for everything I would want by cascading the two channels into each other.
18. Wow! Thats a really interesting technique he has going on for doing the 'Everyday People'/'Dance to the music' groove. Really nice work with the pick and harmonics, not techniques I have heard in funk before (although I am by no means well versed in the genre).. This reminds me is anyone seeing Sly at Lovebox today?
19. Fretless simulator? Or a delay set to loads of repeats with an incredibly short time..
20. Great images fleamail, I take it you read Dave Rats blog too?
21. Two new songs we have written over the last two weeks and performed for the first time at Guilfest 07 in the Rocksound tent. They aren't yet finished but I would be interested to get your opinions - so critique away! 22. My first set of Elixirs arrived this morning, can't wait to try them out
23. Somewhere I saw a person making jewelry out of them, if your the creative type that might be a use for them. Otherwise howabout boiling them and giving them away to someone who might need them.
24. Ahh I thought it was Josh but I wasn't sure, I noticed he was playing frusciantes guitar.. Then of course there is the synth player they have who stands behind the amps.. Regarding overdrive I think on the RHCP BBS people reckoned it was a pro co rat and then the ODB3.
