Drivers will be your biggest problem and sync. Might be worth having a look at asio4all which is supposed to allow you to run multiple soundcards at once.

Hmm seems to be missing midi and doesn't seem to be all that powerful compared to some of its rivals. I would love to have one of these to run my vsts instead of using a laptop but the cost is a bit prohibitive... I must say I enjoy the lite version of Ableton Live that came with my soundcard for just tracking down ideas but its a bit limited when you want to expand them. Would it not be worth integrating this with a simple loop as surely you only need to activate it when using the fuzz and therefore by placing a fuzz in the loop you could activate it with one button press instead of two.

I am sure the audere could be mounted in an external enclosure

Got quite a serious double bass background in jazz I think too. His tone is superb I must say, although on some of the live dvds it comes across as a bit farty. I considered the mackie Onyx, there are some very cheap deals to be had and mackie gear is meant to be pretty solid. I can't remember why I didn't buy it though.. In the end I went for a M Audio FW410 which is alright although I personally wouldn't reccommend one as the drivers can be a bit of a pain. It had a lot of problems with the power management on my laptop. Presonus Firebox is the smaller version of the Firepod and its pretty popular, I have a friend who has one and its survived being handled by a drummer so must be pretty solid I am actually quite tempted to swap my 410 for a firebox, I had bought one on ebay but the seller said he still needed it (grr) and so I had to go for a cheap deal on the M Audio instead. The 4 analog inputs on the firebox would be useful for recording drums.. Mind you if your just looking to record bass that usb lead will probably do just fine. If you want to be able to attatch a mic or any other gear maybe worth considering the Emu 0202 or 0404 which are both USB. Or if you would prefer firewire the Presonus Inspire 1394 looks good value albeit without midi, but that not might be an issue for you. Wow that t.bone cable is cheap, would probably be worth buying it as I am sure it will do the job. I think behringer also make a similar kind of thing but with a few more features thats also very cheap.

I am heading off to uni next year and am intent on joining the jazz group to try and improve my playing and have some fun. I have been speaking to a few people about what to learn/how the nights run as I have absolutely no experience of anything jazzy at all. I was given the following list of songs and told I could find them in the 'real book' which I probably had a copy of but should get one if I didn't. Satin Doll Nostalgia in Times Square Blue Bossa Fly me to the Moon Mr. PC Chameleon Blue Monk Black Orpheus Take the A Train Canteloupe Island The Chicken (Jaco Pastorius) Misty Now I have been looking round on google and I get a wikipedia article telling me all about the real book and its history. Which is the version I should get? I assume the Hal Lenoard Bass Clef version? I would also be greatful if anyone else could reccommend any good books for an introduction to jazz. Many thanks Chris

Mmm one of my favourite songs of all time. I came across it searching for the RHCP version which doesn't hold a candle to the original. Superb bassline and fantastic vocals, really sticky sibilant (sp?) sound. I think somewhere there was a video on bass player tv by the bass player now touring with sly and the family stone and he showed you how to get that sound. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
