I'm off to NZ.

Best of luck Steve, hope everything works out!
2. I quite fancy a Muse Receptor running Guitar Rig 3 but thats a little silly.
3.
Someone just mentioned that the variances in electrical supply used can effect this,, eg the americans use differant voltages etc,,,,, totally believe this is rubbish,,,, but errrrr,,, is it possible?
I think some Jamaican records have this, quite a bit of wow and flutter (I think thats the vinyl term) due to fluctuating power supply changing the speed of the record!
4.
Well I have to backtrack on this, we put a couple of songs in our set to try tonight at rehearsal that really needed me to use a pick and I found that by putting just a gnats on the compressor it really smoothed it out nicely without losing any bite and tone. I then left it in with my finger playing too and it wasn't half bad. When I tried it out at Dr Funks place when I bought it we turned it up and it really sucked the sound away but at gig/rehearsal volume it's a lot more subtle as long as it's not boosted too much. It really was just switched on and no more. It has to be said that this head with my Status S1 5string is the best sound I've had for ages. The valve side of the pre-amp warms it up nicely but it still retains the punch and clarity of the Status.
Hmm very interesting! Guess I missed a trick there, but I never really got it to gig volume anyway.. Glad to hear it's sounding good Colin
5. This one just sold for £60 including postage so I would happy to do that. Seems they go for £99 new from Digital Village
6. Solfege is an interesting program which has various ear training exercises, I found it quite useful a while back and intend to spend a bit more quality time with it this summer.
7. Your backpacking with a bass, cab and amp?! Good luck
8. Back from the ashes.. I am now home from uni for Easter and keen to sell this. Any offers considered..
9. Pretty much mint Hartke VXL DI Pedal. Used a couple of times for the distortion which I think sounds really cool. Nice shape function which is pretty good for beefing up your tone or alternatively making 'transistor radio' lo-fi type sounds. One of the knob covers (the reflective bit which is so bright its hard to see the tiny black dot) has come off but I have it and will glue it back on for the buyer. Has box, manual and even registration card, although the box is a little bit faded from UV light due to being left in sunlight for the last year or so. Would anyone care to make me an offer? I shall get a shipping quote soon. Also pics on demand if anyone wants them Thanks Chris
10. Nope I left for Uni and it has been in my room ever since. Was thinking about trying to get rid of it over Easter actually..
11. After my band folded and with other commitments taking up a lot of time I really slowed down my playing. Now I am at uni and am back in a band I am appalled at how much I have regressed (not that I used to be great), it's very frustrating when you aren't able to play what you want. I find the most reinvigorating thing is playing with new musicians. Today I had a jam with a saxophonist and drummer which left me really inspired.
12. Thanks for sharing!
I recently resurrected my '87 Warwick Streamer and replaced ye olde Bootzillas with some nylon tapewounds to turn it into an old school funk machine. They're a little too fresh but I think given time it could be a fine beast for laying it down in the name of the sailor-suited brother. Alex
Sounds good. Having seen the videos of Bobby Vega on bassplayer tv (which I think you posted too?) I have always wanted a jazz with tapewounds for the old school sounds.
13. I think it would be great to have him hosted on here. Fingers crossed!
14. £150 - what a bargin! I bought mine with a rackcase a year or two back for £250 and it has served me very well. Solid beast and a very nice clean punchy tone. My sound had so much more weight behind it compared with my old SWR Bass 350. I am hoping to sell mine at some point, can't believe they have dropped in value so much
15. I suppose a midi controlled mixer with something to split the signal and then a feed from each chain going back into the mixer. Then some kind of foot controller to toggle the presets. The great thing about Novation gear is how you can use each and every effect on each patch in a performance.
16. Only listened to the first three but they sound great. I love the sound of the curbow on 2, nice bit of reverb on it as well, not too much. Squier jazz sounds pretty good. Best of luck with the RPM challenge. I have always wanted to enter, maybe some year I will have the time!
17.
Some look a bit amateur, but theres a couple at the bottom, namely Freeamp & Guitar Suite that look pretty hefty. I've downloaded them, but haven't tried them yet, so we'll see!
Freeamp is great, version 3 in particular is much better for bass and has better effects layouts too.
dBlue Glitch - Glitch plugin. Throw different effects onto slices of a sample. Obscenely easy to use
Glitch is out of this world! Probably one of the best plugins I use. Great fun to just whack on and tweak the hell out of pretending your Squarepusher.
18.
Cheers for this, been playing around with it for a little while and its exactly the type of thing I've been after for ever (ie a drummer I can sequence!) Truly excellent drum sounds nice load of ambient mics up, only thing I might have done is to mic the floor toms as well. Other than that its perfect! I reckon I could get a decent drum sound for almost any pop/funk/rock/metal/blues/reggae demo from this (anything but jazz with brushes obviously). Just by using differnt mic levels and eq and dynamics. Its brilliant!
No problem. It took me a little while to realise I needed different tracks in Live for each output but I have had great fun practicing mixing with it. The most inspiring drum plugin I have found so far. There are a couple of other settings on there, the 70s and rock kit but I think the default sounds best. By the way apparently they are going to start charging soon so get it while you can guys.
19. This is the best free drum kit plugin I have found. Says on the site it compared favourably to EZ drummer in a forum blind listen. http://www.bluenoise.no/mydrumset.html The MDA collection is well worth having as are the set of effects by tweakbench which have really nice interfaces and are quite creative.
20. One of the oddest must be Schism by Tool "the song starts in 5/4 for one measure followed by 21 measures of 6/4 (or 5/8 and 7/8 alternating), up to the first interlude, which is a bar of 3/8, three bars of 13/8, and a bar of 10/8. (This can be also interpreted as four 13/8 bars, but played with a 3/8 upbeat.) The next verse is eight bars of 6/4 followed by another interlude that fits the same pattern as the first. The next section is four bars of 6/4 followed by one bar of 11/8. Another eight-bar verse in 6/4 follows, with an interlude containing the same as before, except the final 10/8 bar is replaced with an 11/8 bar setting up the middle section, which is four bars of 7/4 before settling into a pattern of alternating 12/8 and 15/8, one bar each, twelve times. Following this, there are three bars of 4/4, a bar of 2/4, and four bars of 4/4 setting up another section, which is two bars of 9/8 followed by a bar of 10/8, that pattern again, a single bar of 9/8 followed by a 13/8 bar. This leads to an alternating set of 9/8 and 5/8, appearing four times before a bar of 9/8 and a bar of 6/8. Near the end, there is a 6/4 meter for eight bars, followed by eight bars of 4/4 to end the song. In all, the song changes meters 47 times. The band has jokingly said that the song is in "6.5/8"." 21.
don't know why they haven't brought out a stand alone box full of DSP of this - much as Guitar Rig
I am pretty certain the guitar rig kontrol does not have any dsp processing power what so ever. All it is is an audio interface with a couple of footswitches. I absolutely love GR2, the modifiers are easily the best bit for making sounds that would be impossible with pedals unless you had a 101 arms at your disposal.
22. I bought a Kickback 12 on here last year for £100, it was in pretty good condition, never thrashed used for double bass. I thought I got a really good bargain though. I think £150 would be good but agree that £125 is fair at the moment. Great amps by the way!
