4.
Hi guys, here's a couple of pics of my bass. I have had plenty over the years, but this bass is the best I have ever owned. It has the real old school Jaydee sound, and feel, and when John commissioned this bass for me, he and I went the extra mile to get things 'vintage'. For me, it has to be the pick-ups. I was lucky enough to get mine made with some really old magnets that he had stashed away, and then he made the pick-ups using the old jigs, and wound them like he used to when he first started making. Believe me, it makes a big difference. Saying that, I have had Jaydee's with the newer ones and they still sound great. Also, as Nick say's ['allo m8], pick-up placement, body woods and body thickness also contribute to the sound.
Just to add, Paul's bass is the closest I've ever come to one that feels/sounds just like the famous #00002 bass that I used to own! Paul - did you try and call me yesterday mate? Am out till late tonight so txt me whens the best time to call m8! Nick
 5.
Rob's done a couple of KingBasses like that (with the matching front and back) that I've seen, strangely mainly walnut ones like yours. I like how the cream accent stripe has been moved on the back as well. That's certainly unusual, as is the redesigned top of the body shape where the body meets the neck. Very very nice bass, mate.
Stunning! I've not had much GAS this year but suddenly I'm like `woooo'!!!! A lovely specimen! Nick
 6. Allo James! Wow - your hair's changed - mine's all gone! Cheers! Nick (remember the Status stand at Music Live in 2000?)
 7.
nick did you buy a pangbourne in Brighton off me?
If thats you Steve (Barnes) then yes, its me!!!! Small world eh? Hope you are well etc. Lovely Status m8! Nick
 8.
Wow - I don't know if the serial numbers were seperate for each model at that time [as they are now], but my original Status SII was #402, produced in 1987. Rich.
Tis a fine 2000! The serial numbers were seperate Rich, so you would have an SII with #402 and a Series 2000 with the same number. I would hazard a guess that the blue 2000 was perhaps made around '88/89, judging by the colour and black h/ware! Cheers guys!!! Nick (now leader of this forum - blimey!)
 9.
No I didn't mean the shop taking the p*ss, certainly not - I've had some absoloutly cracking deals (and I mean AMAZING) in there in the past, and are a fantastic shop. I worded it a bit badly. I meant is it really costing this much more to produce and ship a bass to the UK for a shop to sell since the worlds economic turn, or have Fender just jumped the prices up using the economy as an excuse to make a few more quid? The mentioned Dean price rise and the Ibanez price rise doesn't seem quite as steep as Fenders. The new Squire stuff is lovely, and as Rich said, you are in some cases looking at better value instruments compared to the MIM Fenders. How much more expensive could a MIM Fender possibly get befor people just won't buy them any more and get either the cheaper but equally as good Squire, or shell out more for the lovely MIA Fender?
No probs m8! The Squiers are certainly fine basses - I really want the sonic blue one they've got in there - if I buy that, I will have a nice set of three CV basses! Cheers! Nick
 10.
So I popped into my local store today to pick up a new mic clip thingy for my vocal mic, and was told that they "have some nice Fenders in" and that they could do me 25% off in their sale. Well, I'm not in the market, and would never buy a new bass again now anyway, but I had a look. There was one Fender. The rest were Squires (nice Squires mind you). The Fender was a MIM Jazz, pretty plain. £659! SIX-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-NINE POUNDS! I very nearly LOLed right there and then. Have prices really risen that much on retail? Or was this some serious piss taking? When I brought my MIM Jazz 3 or so years back, I payed £350 NEW. Blimy.
If you are talking about a certain establishment co-founded by a certain bass player's Dad where said bassist teaches in Lincoln Road then they would never take the p*ss - take it from me, you should know that mate. As Pete A notes, the street prices on Fender have shot through the roof, as have many products. The shop does its very best to match internet prices and given the recent change in ownership, its in a good position! Cheers Nick
 11. Ah! The new boy!!!!!! Hope you're well Steve! ATB Nick
 12.
So how can I replicate that fantasic syrupy sound in the intro?
Get yerself one of these boy - with the Flanger module of course! I use one of these basses (Electra X-610 MPC model) as my main `rock' instrument and the flanger gets left on - its such a massive sound!
 13.
If you're a new cat into walking bass, it's ESSENTIAL to get a copy of Ed Friedland's - Building Walking Basslines. Clear, informative, demanding, interesting. Starts at very basic things, and then dips into messy ones. It's made from printed (pdf) version + audio [recorded audio track for each exercise]. been working on this for over a half-year myself.. Works for me. Great stuff. Hey, and don't forget to try each line in the book in at least 6 keys (F, Bb, Eb, Ab, C, G - most common keys in jazz!) If you're having trouble finding this book, give me PM, we'll sort something.. Good luck with this, Faith.
Jamie! I've got that book somewhere m8 - will try and dig it out for our next session! Cheers Nick
 14.
Oooo I was looking at coming to that.....
No probs Steve! I did a wedding there a couple of years ago! Cheers Nick
 15.
What's the board made out of? I really like the look of this thing - don't suppose you have any clips of it recorded, I've never heard a piezo fretless?
These basses are superb! The fingerboard is ebonol, I think! We had two in stock when I were a lad working at Music Village - lovely! Highly recommended! Nick
 16. Hi Steve! Mate - can you pm me your phone number - I need a dep on the 30th of January! Cheers Nick
 17.
Cort, defo.
Thanks m8! As most of you know, I do have my faults but being wrong is not one of them!!!
MB1. ...Indeed! definately Cort me out!...Sorry! I'll get me coat!
I think you should get your coRt!!! Hehe! N
 18. That looks like `a Cort, of course'! (That was the spiel in their ads!). These did have the P type p/up in the neck position! PM on its way (giving you some info). Nick
 19.
any idea on what the resale value on these would be? so how much do you think these will depreciate?
Good question! I think it all depends on how long they produce these for and how many are in circulation - if they stop making them in 6 months time and there's not many around and people suddenly start clamouring for them, then they might well hold their value nicely or indeed increase in value, who knows?! I recall being a tender young bassist in the early '80s when the Squier JVs were mainstream - no one back then could have predicted their current resale price - if only I'd bought 30 of them back then!!! I'm very close to going for a fiesta red Jazz.... Mystic Smith
 20. ..thats cos it was his bass - I had it for a few years then had to sell it! Remember Live at Wembley!!! Bumpe!
 21. I actually did `Geddy' in a tryout for a Leicester based Rush tribute, minus the singing and keys - do have the bass pedals though! Got the job, problem was finding a singer/keys player!
 22. I too love the older models! This one was particularly nice....!!! And what a handsome young man! Have a bump!
 23. Its an '84 then! I always had it in my head that is was an '86! Must have been the other one I had (I've had over 15 JDs I think!). All the best Steve! Happy Belated Birthday! Nick (you jetsetter you!)
 24. Allo! Some slots still available for this Spring - do get in touch!!! Cheers! Nick
