1.
Agree with Mr. Corpse. This bass is part of the Outlaw range - which is in fact named from the band The Outlaws, who endorsed Electra in the 70s. The built-in MPC effects (modular powered circuits) appeared in numerous Electra guitars from 1976 until the early 80s. SLM might possibly have had the bass modified to Squire's specs, but Electra were sourced from Fujigen, Matsumoku & Kasuga. I think the Outlaw range were made by Kasuga - there are design traits & specific components which appear on Kasuga's Scorpion series also. And whoever's bought this - please don't turn it into some sort of fanboy parody. J.
Bzzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzz - mind those fingers! (sound of the jigsaw, cutting away excess hornage!!!) Now, I wonder who the new `daddy' might be....?! Chris bless him, does sometimes expand the truth a little bit! He mentions that he designed the Mouradian CS-74 when in fact Jim Mouradian built it and presented it to him as a gift! He is still one of my all-time heroes, so I suppose I could well be described as a `fanboy'.... Oh, here's a good resource: http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/history.php ATB! Nick
 2. Looks like that model Jon - couple of knobs missing on this example! Do you remember the very first range of Aria Integras - going back to around '87 I think - smaller headstock with the fine tune bridge unit - always wanted one of those. Nick
 3.
Mmm, nice Vigier Passion. Here's my Series 3 being given a good beating ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3cdn7O6tXE
You mean thats you beating one of my ex's!!! The bass on sale here is a steal - someone purchase it as I am again totally bereft of monies! ATB! Nick
 4.
No - it would be f*cking unforgiveable vandalism. How is this different to getting a 1960s Precision & hacking it into a teardrop shape because that's what Geddy Lee did? Except 60s Ps are a damn sight easier to find - in any condition - than these. J.
Entirely up to the eventual purchaser! Hehehe! Where's my tech...!
 5. Hallo! It was a great gig but having seen the band four times now, Jon, along with Chris is the heart of the band - Benoit is superb and I think should try not to keep aping Jon's stagecraft as he (Benoit) does have his own character. To those of you who love the band, you won't be disappointed but whereas you'd normally get 110% magic, this show is around 100% if you get where I'm coming from. On saying that, And You And I brought a tear to my eye, mainly due to me poking myself there! At the end of the day, for me, Squire is the star of the show anyway, he is a true showman! For you bass fans, Squire used the following! The famous cream '65 Rickenbacker (that one!) Electra MPC Mouradian CS-74 (the green one that I would sell all internal organs for!) - funnily enough he did not use this on `Owner', using the MPC instead! Lakland `Bob Glaub' in silver grey Fish Out Of Water custom painted Rickenbacker (black finish) For more Yes news, check out: http://www.yesworld.com Cheers Nick
 6.
Its not just about the dots. Its also about understanding the genre you are playing in. A classical player who can read anything cannot just go into a jazz or a rock session and make it happen without some comprehension of the medium they are engaging with. I had a BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra first bassist dep for me in a big band once (his call) but, despite reading every note 'correctly' he didn't come even close to swinging. If you ever read a classical score along with the music being played, you will quickly realise that the dots are only a part of the story. You have to know the genre.
Fully agree. Interpretation and empathy/understanding of the musical situation very very important!
 7. Allo! Young Karlthebassist and myself went to see them last night at the Hammersmith Apollo - great show but without Jon Anderson, it was not quite the same....! Squire was on great form - he's looking even bigger these days and at one point broke one of his nails. The bass sound was pretty good and his Taurus pedals...very moving! Anyone else seen them? Nick
 8.
I'd leave the scratch guard as it is, Andy. It looks really nice and very individual.
Have to agree with my brother on this - theres something very nice about lake placid blue and a tortie plate!
 9. COME TO DADDY! ME WANT ME WANT ME WANT!!! I missed out on one of these on Ebay a couple of years ago and can get the mods done...!
 10.
Here's my two- I love them both!
Your Series I comes uncannily close to #00002 in terms of sound and playability! Lavly!
 11.
Hi Jamie? I think i remember you from Baker St studios and rehearsals? I used to be in a prog band called Force Majeure and I played bass in Howard Bakers band. Old pic of me on tour with Bakers band, ATB Dave
Geddy!!! Is that you?!!! Nice one m8! ATB! Nick (quarta geordie!)
 12.
Just picked up one of the above. I'd never heard of 'em but love it do death. Anyone got one/used one? Opinions? Manual? Chris
I've had one for around 20 years or so - great unit but its now retired! No manual I'm afraid. Nick
 13. Allo! I first tried one about a year ago and was not 100% convinced to be honest. However, I've now got one here at the moment and having had it since Sunday, it is an incredible bass, really something else. There are obvious comparisons in terms of shape etc with the Wal basses but its nothing like a Wal in terms of everything else - Martin designed it the way he did as it works ergonomically etc. The pickup is very easy to use once you memorise the LED colours/coil options and after about 10 minutes sitting down with it, going through the combinations, its actually very easy to use and the tonal variations are superb. I think he's onto a winner! Nick
 14. Aha! Thats a blast from the past! Hi Simeon! This bass belonged to Jon Bamforth and he had three E Basses built (note I'm not a partner in the business any more due to lack of time, just a willing unpaid helper so this is not an advert for E Basses!). Jon still had this bass at that point and wanted the same electronics, hence the upgrade. Jon was very sadly crippled in an horrific motorcycle accident many years ago and this bass is very lightweight as it had to sit on his lap when playing. ATB Nick
 15. Karl is now a new daddy, he's bought a StingRay off of a mate of mine! Nick
 16.
I wouldn't call myself a "session player" as I don't do it that often, but I've come across both scenarios. A few years back I played on a dance track - played the ostinato for 4 minutes and at the end the producer flicked through, found a bar where every note was mechanically dead on, and copy and pasted it across the whole track
Same here really, there aren't that many local sessions up here but I've done stuff for different people in studios and have experienced both `fully played' and `pasted' situations! I recall one situation where the drums were `moved' to be in time with me!!! Hehehe!
 17.
Thats why I will probably always try or buy even more Basses.
It never ends, believe me!
 18. Would love this but no money - again! Another classic bass!
 19.
Just the one - he sold it to Dr Nick to prop up his 54 basses.
Get the math correct! 67 basses!!!! Mwahahaha!!
 20.
In my hands now is a Stingray 4 3EQ that I have been lent to try out. And bloody hell. What a stunning instrument. It plays like butter. Fantastic tone - not so much the one trick jobby I originaly though. Possibly not as versatile as a two pickup instrument, but then the 3 band EQ is so powerful that I'm getting a good range of very useful tones out of it. Pick-style, fingerstyle and slap all seem to work so well. I think as a live tool - which it would predominantly be used as, as I do VERY little recording - it is bang on... I think I've got something here that would do everything I need...
Glad to have been of help m8 - great seeing you earlier. That Ray really does the business through your rig. Nick
 21. Allo! Went to Music Live (there is a seperate thread here in General Bass Discussion) and was pretty surprised at how few stands there were compared to previous years...still nice to have a day off and bump into some old mates in the music business. Came out with a Hiscox case which contained a fine bass.....more to follow - its handmade and extremely versatile!!! Anyway, had the immense pleasure of watching our very own Cetera (and fellow bass nut) play in `Dressed To Kill' - absolutely spot on - it was like watching Kiss really, complete with pyros! Cetera has the fastest tongue I've ever seen, I think he was doing hemidemisemiquavers, and as for those other moves....! The bass sound was huge, loads of power and the whole band was superb, very very authentic! Seriously, I stood there and felt very proud! Les Patterson, the sound guy is a good mate of mine (lives local to me) and the PA was kicking! Well done mate! Nick
 22. Velly intellesting! At the height of his powers, Mark had 90 basses. I'm told by a reliable source that he had around 12 Status 2000 models in different colours etc. As has been noted, this particular bass is in very good condition, speaking from experience of owning the famous red Live at Wembley JayDee bass. I recall someone being given one of these, must be the same guy! Jammy sod eh!!! All I got from Mark was an earful of abuse when he found out I'd had his brand new Kingbass out for a play a week before he got it! Hahahah!

 24. I might nip down to see if I can blag some cheap bits later today (sunday!). If you are there, you won't miss me, I will be wearing my favourite tight lederhosen, white terry towelling socks and open toed sandals, surrounded by legions of adoring ladies..!

Little Mark head with 1 x 12 and 2 x 10 cabinet I guess you could say I'm covered for most gig requirements.....! Obviously, when running the head into a single cab at 8 ohms, I'm not getting the full power but I'd like a 2 x 10 4 ohm cab at some point! Cheers Nick
