1.
MB1. ...BUMP
Is Rich selling them off then?!! Heheh! N
 2. Perhaps we should open a Monday Drop-In Centre for pro players, we can discuss gardening and hair styles! Heheh! Just to add to what Doddy and Attackbass have said, treat every gig as the most high profile job you'll ever do - yes, that might seem like a crazy statement doing a £50 one night stand pub gig but you never know whos in there watching you! Depping is a good way forward; I'm now Mike Berry's main dep (for the legendary Alan Jones) - I've got a gig with him in London in November at a showbiz party; the Bee Gees are going to be there, so you never know - someone might see me play and say `blimey, he's a bit tasty*'...this could lead onto more work etc. Nick * they would be absolutely correct of course. Don't put yourself down, I'm a very good bass player and if I were not, I'd be back in the office writing online help systems!
 3.
I've been stubbornly making a living playing bass for 11 years now. I'll send you a PM later - Monday's are my weekend so I've just finished mowing me lawn and cleaning the driveway. Rock n' roll, wha?!?! Anyway - my nugget of advice is in the first line there - stubbornly. Brute force and ignorance can really take you a long way.
I've been full time for the last 8 years and strangely enough Monday is my day off too! Today was kind of strange in that I've been over to the recording studio to help produce 5 tracks for my mate's band and then nipped over to my sister's salon to have whats left of me hair cut! I do a lot of teaching, gig with around 4 bands, do deps, do theatre shows and the odd session (no, they are not strange!) - so I suppose the playing side of things augments the teaching most of the time but I still class myself as a professional bassist as I have no other income. It has been discussed before I'm sure but the most important quality as a player is to be versatile. There are many more and I'm sure many answers will be forthcoming! Nick
 4. Hi Mikkel! Welcome to Basschat - thats a lovely Streamer you have there! Don't forget to introduce yourself in the Introductions forum! Good eh!? I had a similar one some years ago, which had the Schaller bridge - great bass, loads of power! ATB! Nick
 5.
Post birthday bash serious hangover laying on the settee feeling sorry for myself type bump! Nick the name is very familliar but I cannot put a face to it.... Does he have a brother called Brian do you know? Jay
I know Brian (he of JHS fame years ago) - I don't think they are related! Hope you are feeling better. I think pics are needed!!! (of the EUB not your hangover!)
 6.
I love that fence photo. Every time Mrs Tredders shakes her head at the latest incoming delivery, I simply show her that fence pic. Usually does the trick.
Heheh! Good lad! Nice to think I'm helping fellow BCers purchase more and more basses with minimal bodily harm!
 7. Nice one matey - next time there's a bash I will have a play - hope the case is ok too! Nick (Vigier Cases UK!) PS - might have some Vigier news for you very soon....
 8.
Not on hand I don't. Not many ask. But I could rustle one up. I do have two nice jet black ones already made in the affiliates section already. These were not ordered. So they are available my friend... Check these strings out... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64518 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64519 Cheers, Jazz
Very nice! Will be in touch soon - might have an idea! Cheers Nick
 9.
anyone got any info on the fleabass?
Allo! Please refer to this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62451 no more replies here please! Cheers! Nick
 10. Best thing to do is find a music store near you that stocks Warwick - take your amp/rig down there and try a load out; if not, perhaps there are fellow Chatters near you that might be able to help. Don't forget that each and every bass is different; going to a dealer is definitely the best way forward in finding one that suits you and your needs. ATB! Nick
 11.
This one please... That'l do nicely.
Very nicely! Very Graham Gouldman that one. Sonic blue justs suits the Jazz bass so well, espec. with the matching head face. Add it to me list....! Nick
 12.
So, come on... It's not only what you're GAS-ing for, but what do you think is the uber-cool must have bass of the moment? For me, it's the Fiesta Red Roadworn Jazz. I don't like the idea of new relics, but there's just something about these...
Thats one of the boys!! My current list of wanties is: 1. One of these: Ian has just built another new prototype bass like this; he finished it yesterday and I gigged it last nite - it was incredible - imagine a cross between an Alembic, a GB, Status and Wal - tons of bottom end but with a clear transparent top end and enough mids to lay down a really heavyweight yet articulate tone; this could well be it as a new working bass for me! We've already picked out some woods for my custom build but I might have the prototype as well, its that good! (ps I am no longer an official partner in E Basses, this is not an advert!). 2. Vigier Arpege Delta Metal fretless - if all goes well I'm getting one next week. Best fretless I've played. 3. cd david's (Dave Anderson's) 6 string Overwater - no one else buy this otherwise I will make you eat ya shoe. 4. Wal Custom - really miss my old Wals! 5. StingRay V - be nice to have one! Thats it! Nick
 13.
Sure...Why not. I don't mind having one of my basses take up unit #67 in the stable. Norbert should be cool with that. I mean it's only one more bass to clean....
Thats a very kind offer - Norbert is rubbing his hands with glee! Do you have one in a nice deep green colour? Nick
 14.
Thanks for those very kind words Nick, much appreciated, but im a little behind yourself on the collecting and playing stakes mate. ATB Dave
You're too modest mate! Did you get my pm??? Nick
 15.
Thank you gentlemen, you're very kind! The padauk Series II is a lovely bass but I must admit to giving it a good polish prior to taking the photographs
Wow! Thats an interesting one - a sort of transition model - early bridge cover (original and still the best!) Status logo and the bigger `headpiece'! And its got an LED active indication light. Its `Charmin' * (* subtle reference to those finding themselves polishing!)
 16. 40!????? I'd have put you at at least 45! Hehehe! I'm 39 at Christmas - just a mere boy eh!? Seriously, have a great weekend and Happy Birthday! Do you know a keys player called Neil Cleary (used to be MD on Joseph in the West End, have done quite a few gigs with him etc) - he lives in Wickford. Nick (actually only 16 and a half...............stone)
 17.
You own 65 basses!?! You must be unmarried because if you were, you would'nt be alive to show us your pics...
My houseboy `Norbert' is a good lad, he enjoys cleaning them whilst I lay back on the sofa, scoffing chocolates! Actually its 66 now....! I'm single again, but my last partner also played bass and is a wonderful flautist - she had four basses of her own! So things were pretty cool on that front! Oh, meant to say, your basses look great - you can always send me a couple to try out!
 18. Allo! Nigel (the owner) is a massive purpleheart fan and the bass has many such wooded features including those hand-turned knobs! Yes, that was a slight typo error on the truss rod cover plate which was subsequently replaced with a new one!
 19.
bump
pics? xxx
 20.
I'll have to wait till I get paid to pop in. I wasn't looking for advertising lol. Would it be cool if I asked to put a gig poster up in there do you reckon?
No prob as regards a poster etc - just ask the guys and they will put it up for you. Cheers Nick
 21.
People always focus almost entirely on his slap playing, which is very unfair really. His fingerstyle grooving is as tight as a gnat's chuff, and his ability to sing over even his most fearsomely complex bass parts is just uncanny. For my money, that's his most impressive facet. I get a bit bored with his wockity-wockity slap stuff these days. Oh damn, and I haven't bought you an anniversary present! Errm, can I take you out for dinner to make up for it?
I can meet you at Nailsea Public conveniences (sp?) in about 4 hours! Bring the Mr Sheen and Autosol! x Rich is spot on here - Mark is one of the world's top groove players! Check out `There is a Dog' on his solo album `Influences' - incredible. In fact, the entire album is a great showcase of his overall musicianship as he plays most of the instruments on there.
 22.
Hi Rich - not really my thing I am afraid. If it was to go, it'd be for a cash sale. It works perfectly! Gary
Whereabouts are you bassed??? Nick
 23.
Is this the one with the extended nut over the G string?? If so I very nearly bought this bass once upon a time
Look closely at the pic and you can see it!
 24.
Awww matey! I'd love a proper catch up some time. We must do it before the last strand of your hair goes and my last black hair goes grey on me. I feel like we're the old gentlemen of the net reading your old stories ;-) What was that first JD wesbite, before the yahoo group ??? Can't remember the fella's name who put it up. One day soon - I'll put up some of the video from the 25 year anniversary. Proper pre-Youtube that footage is !!! it's not great, so I'll have to edit the best bits out. I think I might just have sunk way too many Jack Ds at the JD !!!! (Some things never change). You just reminded me about Cookie's Man City bass too !! Mental. I've got a bunch of those old pics on Flickr, if anyone wants a look - they're at : - http://www.flickr.com/photos/reds42/sets/72157616505900933/ and some of my Bass & Guitar pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/reds42/sets/72157611491907794/ (Been in to photography a bit lately too!)
Amazingly, all my grey hair has disappeared! Problem is so has all the rest!!! We are certainly the old boys now eh - I'm 39 at Christmas! We will definitely have to have a get together with all the old crowd! The guy who started the JD yahoo club was called Paul Theriault, from Canada. The other JD site which I think came out just after the Club was built by Ralph Van Hejden (Ralphie!) from Holland - and its still available, all these years later! http://www.geocities.com/serial06757/Level42.html Stay tuned! EADG Nick
 25.
Im suffering with Vigier GAS ! Gary v8
That Vigier is a very special bass as many people can testify (used to be mine of course!) Dave is one of the UK's top collectors - he has some absolute gems in his stable - and he's a brilliant bloke and very nice player! I hate him with a *passion!!!!!! Hehehehe! He's like a brother to me and he knows that I mean that! Nick (quarta Geordie!) * Vigier Passion - geddit?!
