Mark King used to play one of these before he got his first ever Jaydee! Not many people know that!

Choosing between two graphite neck basses...
doctor_of_the_bass replied to JanSpeeltBas's topic in Accessories and Misc
Allo! They are both good quality instruments - the only thing that would swing my decision is that the G-Basses only have a single pickup whereas the Status will provide that extra flexibility offered by the twin J type pickups! If it were me, I'd probably buy both and then have my bank manager throttle me! Hehe! Nick -
The plastic pickup rings for a 1959 Les Paul change hands for up to £10,000. If you have a '59 and want it to be all original - then spending that will get your axe over £100,000 (sometimes they hit £250,000) Madness.
How in the name of the Cosmos can you prove the authenticity of that kind of stuff (p/up rings!)??? Absolutely crazy. Nick (Pickup Rings R Us - new venture!)

Awww! Why are there so many great basses up for sale right now?!!! All my money's gone... I've been playing my 4001CS quite a bit recently, plus one of my students has got what is perhaps the best example of a 4003 I've ever seen/played - its in that lovely deep trans blue finish and the tone is exemplary! So, have a Bump on me! BUMP (there it is!) Nick
Who cares, just have fun and the rest will fall into place :0)
Absolutely! My philosophy: 1. Play in tune 2. Play in time 3. Buy as many basses as you can!
Hi just thought i would let everybody see my bass and would love to know what its worth. I bought it from a pro player about 6 years,he claims he used it on comercial recordings in the 80's. Great to play with its low action. Thanks. John.
..meant to say that the red one has come home to daddy!!!
Unlike a fair few of the forum members, I love the sound from my mark bass cabs. I use two 2 x 10" cabs and a genz benz head.
Nice one! I've said it many times before, I personally love the cabs (then again, I'm a bit biased, owning four of them plus a head and combo!). I've A B'ed stacks from different manufacturers and the mark stuff just seems right for me.
MB1. Have Seen Maya basses before!...never an El Maya...unless this is a Maya for the Mexican Market!....Sorry!...I'll Get me coat! ............Think the Doc might know a bit more on this?
Are you referring to me or Howard? I know very little about Mayan products; did own a Maya P bass once! Very well made. Jon's the man really. Polytone produced a range of basses at one point which shared the same body shape...iirc!

Greatest plectrum players/grooves
doctor_of_the_bass replied to james_guitar's topic in General Discussion
Nowt wrong with using a pick! Colin Hodgkinson - uses one quite a lot! And my mate Alan Jones (ex Shadows and one of the most recorded bassists of all time) uses one extensively. Graham Gouldman of 10CC - another very notable pick man! Some standout pick basslines (in no particular order): 1. South Side of The Sky - Chris Squire (Yes of course!) 2. Glittering Prize - Derek Forbes 3. Method of Modern Love - T Bone (Hall & Oates) 4. Cinema - Chris Squire 5. Art for Art's Sake - Graham Gouldman (10CC) -

Unused Stingray 4, made in 2000. Pictures here!

Lavverly!!! I just became a dad this week to a new StingRay fretless, am hoping to get some pix sorted once it stops raining! Bassist mag reviewed a fretted version (with piezo bridge) some years ago in the same finish - one of my mates bought it - its a beautiful colour - always wanted a JD in that shade! -

Level at 65 mate! There's a few going on Ebay next week...! Time to consolidate things a bit due to lack of gigs N

Wahey!!! That looks great! The original finish was superb but there's something about black! I bought it off of Tombboy who I think bought it off Kiwi! The Cutlass basses had Modulus necks - Status did however produce necks for the Namm 100th anniversary basses as noted. I've just taken delivery of my `Ernie Ball' endorsement bass, a four string unlined fretless StingRay with a very tasty ash body (3-tone sunburst, black plate) which looks very similar to Pino's famous fretless! Problem is it has turned up 3 months early....! (still have to pay for it even with the endorsement!). Will try and get some pics up soon! My Dad saw and played it today and insists its the `best looking and sounding bass you've [I've!] ever had! Chears! Nick

Nice one Steve (actually that should be Steves!) I was down at the shop on Monday and had actually played the `green' bass some time ago - excellent! The review pix in the mag don't really capture the colour, its much more vibrant in the flesh! Flanker - love your old Roscoe! Very nice! Cheers Nick
