1. Probably posted before, but this is my current setup: And Basses:
2.
My turn. Nothing fancy, just an enormous sounding set up. Hartke 410XL,4.5XL driven by the Trace 1210 on the right. I plan to remove the head section from the Trace, put it in a box being made by one of our guitarists and use it as a proper head unit (I'm sick of lugging the combo around unnecessarily) The whole thing sounds huge and I love it. In the foreground is my stunning Shuker Elite. It's a work of true craftsmanship.
Nice One Pete, looks like my old 410XL is doing the business with your 4.5! Im sure they sound amazing together, love the Hartke gear!
3. Hes just pulling your leg Jamie - you are a great player!
4. Just to add, these are fantastic basses - I am the very happy owner of a Vigier Passion III 5 string and I really feel "at home" with it. It has become my number one bass, and anyone who buys this will be very very lucky. I would buy it myself but I am moving into a new flat in 2 weeks and im tight for cash, good luck with the sale!
5. Cheers Dave - Live I tend to use the built in compressor on the Bass Pod, and works very well. It would appear its all about the upper mids - a little tweaking and im almost there!
6. Very nice Jamie - im assuming from the shakky pics that the amp was blasting you in the face with RAW BASS POWER!!!! Looks sweet as mate, bet it sounds like a monster. Nice Demolition rig!
7. HAHA! Im a bit of a gigging ho, so i tend to play most gigs thrown my way. Only ever turned down a gig if ive played there before and know the sound/venue is crap (Betsy Trottwoods in London anyone?). Would probably only turn down a gig if there is crap money, crap venue or jus generally a crap situation.
8. Hi All, Some of you may remember a few years back I was in an originals band called ScienceMurdersDreams, fronted by my good friend Rob Thom - well, he has continued writing music in a similar vein to SMD, and has finally finished recording one of my favourite SMD songs, called Signs. All writing credit has to go to mr Thom, but it was certainly my personal favourite track when I played it with SMD, so have a listen and see what you think! With any luck ill be playing bass for this project once it finally hits the road, but until then, enjoy here: http://www.myspace.com/anglefiction Feedback most welcome!
9. BUMP - Now with Updated pics, and also forgot to mention it is fitted with Warwick recessed Straplocks and ill throw in a Comfort strap with it.
10. BUMP - Still available, new pics to follow very soon. Now decided I am after Lakland DJ 4 or a Decent Jazz bass, so show me what you got! Otherwise cash offers around the £650 mark are good for me...
11. I used to get GP Ultra batteries from a mate who ran a website selling batteries in bulk, and found they lasted for ages, much longer than duracell and energizers. Sadly it looks as though he has packed this in now and I cant see them around in the UK much, but Duracells are sat hapilly in my basses and seem to last a good while.
12. Hi Guys & Gals, I think its safe to say I have now settled down with my gear, with my Vigier Passion III 5 string dominating my warwicks and stopping me from buying any more basses (although I would like a nice Jazz bass for fun), however I have some issues id like to get your thoughts on. Firstly, I am talking about playing live, speciafically switching between Slap & fingerstyle and vice versa. I find that when im playing fingerstyle, which is probably about 90% of the time, I can get a real nice tone and have no problems cutting through. As soon as I get my thumb bouncing around, i seem to disappear in the mix and it sounds like I have almost "gone missing" if that makes any sense? There are a few songs I play with my funk/soul band that require me to pull out some slap grooves, but I find that I just cant find that "sweet spot" - ive tried boosting my Mids but it often comes through as sounding too harsh to the ears, and I tend to boost the bass a little and the treble a little to give me some more thump and bite in my sound. How do you fellow slappers get by? What EQ settings / tricks do you use that might be of help? Cheers Luke
13. Agreed mate, Whenever i make changes to my sounds on the bass POD i give it at least a week before I have settled on the sounds I want and when I first got it, it took me a good 3 months before I had patches set up that I was happy with. Im keen to see what this little baby can do, ive never heard of it before and if it sounds as close to the original as possible then great!
14. Hi Bean, I picked up the bass at 16 with no musical theory and having had very little musical training, apart from some keyboard lessons from 4 to about 12 before I gave up (which I regret to this day). I learned and played bass solely for well over 7 years now, I dont play any other instruments and ive never once felt like I was wasting my time or my money (and believe me ive spent more than I care to think about on gear!). I play bass because I enjoy it and yes, it comes into its own when you get into a proper band with a rhythm section, but to be honest I find bedroom playing has a place to play aswell in developing skills. I joined a band at 16 after playing bass for about 2 weeks, and i can honestly say I have learnt more from being in a band than anything else!
15. Is that the GB bass recently seen in Bass Guitar Magazine? It looks superb, splendid rig there mate!
16. Think I may need to make a trip to Oxford soon mate, I need to hear this beast in action!
17. Props and much respect to that kid - I wish i was half as good as that at my age. Sure, timing needs work, but that will come with some proper time spent with a metronome and some decent headphones.
18. These are stonking basses - I was very lucky to get my mitts on the aforementioned Passion III, formerly of Ped's arsenal of bass doom. I have to say, it is now my main bass and has succeeded in stopping me from even contemplating picking up my two fantastic Warwick Streamers since I got it. It's so comfortable it may as well play itself, fingerstyle and slap are so easy and considering its a 5er, I have no trouble with it whatsoever in terms of string spacing and the neck profile is sublime. Its safe to say I will never sell mine - so someone please take advantage of this and buy a great bass before my overdraft takes a battering!
19.
your fiver's fingerboard needs a bit of a clean matey!
It does indeed - it also needs some new strings, but I havent had time to do either recently! Ill be giving her some much needed TLC this weekend - and new strings on payday. It has just been gigged hard for the last year and half, so its about time I gave it a new set of strings and a good clean. BUMP!
20. Yes, this is a Neck Thru. Apologies for the crap pictures, ive been away with work for a while and I havent been able to get any proper photo's done, ill get some as soon as I can. BUMP!
21. You are one sick puppy - I dont think I could have brought myself to sell on any of those basses!
22. Haha No worries Nick, the 5 string Warwick wont ever get sold - Ive got an unhealthy attachment to it! BUMPAGE
23. Hi Folks, Since the arrival of my Vigier Passion III 5er, I have found that I really have little or no use for my 4 string Streamer Stage One. Its a fantastic bass, but to be honest the Vigier covers all angles musically for me now and I simply dont touch this. Its a 2000 model Warwick Streamer Stage One 4 string in Natural in excellent condition, with EMG P/J Pickups and Aguilar 2 Band Preamp. I got this as part of a trade from a fellow Basschat member about a year ago, and have to say its a real beats of a bass with loads of sounds made possible by the very powerful 18v Preamp. If you can suffer my shoddy bass work, you can hear the bass in action with my funk band here: http://media.putfile.com/Projec13---Too-Yo...o-Die-live-2008 Overall id say its in great condition, with no dings or marks - there is a small amount of wear just above the P pickup where one might anchor the Thumb, but other than that its in top nick. It has recently had a fresh waxing and a nearly new set of Elixir Nanoweb roundwounds installed. A Hard case and Warwick body wax + all truss rod tools are included with this. I guess cash offers of around £650 are about right for this bass, but ideally id love to trade for something. Im currently GASsing for: Lakland Darryl Jones 4/5 string Musicman Stingray 3EQ Musicman Sterling A Decent 5 string Jazz Bass (im a big fan of the Marcus Miller tone and that vintage Jazz vibe) Pics: PM me!
