    Did these DarkGlass clones start appearing after Korg acquired them? Perhaps the manufacturing went to a lower end, cheaper factory where things get leaked? It does seem, bar the more fancy digital stuff that the core functionality and sound is there in these DarkGlass clones...

    I've got a few 31.5" ACG 6ers, and a 26.5"... . I have tuned the 26.5"er B to C, and it works, but I find it cool to have something tuned a little differently around too.

    A large chunk of the saturation and dirt, to my ear comes from driving some kind of outboard gear, possibly even the channel on a high end Neve desk, but I have read a few articles that state he recorded the whole album using his GK rig. Sad thing is, I doubt even Flea will remember, it was a fairly wild time on the Chilli's career...

    Yeah, the SansAmp pricing has gone WAY up. I bought my original V1 back in the 90s for not much more than £100 new. That's since gone, and I got a good as new V2 for £150 about 2 years ago. I guess they're just keeping up with the prices of all their competition, as these preamp pedals are getting very pricey now.

    I think for all intents and purposes, in a mix like that you wouldn't hear much of a difference. I believe there is a little more finesse in the BDDI tone in isolation, and the build quality will obviously be night and day Ultimately, it's meant to be a pretty accurate clone, mainly just the quality of build and components that make the difference, oh and the BDDI V2 has a bit more going on control wise too, the Behringer is a clone of the V1.

    A really really good comparison, and there's something for everyone in there too. It gives a real world setting for everything too, as some preamps just sound pants compared to others, depending on the player and the bass, so much more honest than most test videos where everything is tweaked to sound as good as possible, sometimes, I suspect with external gear. My favourites were mainly the Sansamp ones, the VT Bass mainly, but I will always have a soft spot for the BDDI, which is lucky as I have one Eude

    Fair point, and sorry for derailing. We are very much spoilt for choice in the UK, it's a shame that our builders aren't given the profile they deserve.

    Another +1 for ACG. I met Alan about 16 years ago, and it wasn't long after that I ordered my first ACG. Since then, I have moved on all other basses, and I can't see me playing any other basses every again. The build quality is as good as, if not better than any other high end bass I have played, and as mentioned above, Alan's patience and customer service is second to none. I've now got 7 basses, plus 2 guitars, and of course I want more! Here's a few of them...

    Totally forgot to upload this one! A little original ditty played on an incredible AC Guitars Mule bass I had the pleasure of borrowing from @skelf Short scale, heavily chambered, 5er, tuned E to C with Black Tape Strings and Piezo electronics, absolutely incredible instrument and it literally weighs nothing at all!

    Where did you get these mythical strings? I found the low B with my usual strings on my 26.5" close to passable, but it didn't set my world on fire. Would be very interested to know what you've got and even better to hear some samples.
