Incredibly, bad quick and dirty photoshoppery... This is a bit nicer, no?... Eude
Why do people go on about upper fret access. I can get to 1-12 un hindered. Thats me covered.
I guess it's each to their own. I like to go up a bit, or at least to have the option, especially when they're there. They may as well stop the fingerboard at the 15th fret and paint the rest the same as the body... Eude
Wow, that's even worse dusty end access than a Thunderbird. Never though I'd see that in a modern day bass, albeit a retro design. Wilfully perverse, not much thought gone in there. The result of a 5 minute "what if..." chat over a cup of coffee. Can't say I'm impressed.
Yeah, it's a really silly "design" if you ask me, it'll have horrendous neck dive and upper fret access is a joke. I think Low End Bee's comments about using up parts is probably spot on. Must try harder Fender... On a side note though, that semi-hollow geetar, second from the left is lush!.. Eude
If it's filter circuits you're interested in, then you should also consider a custom made ACG.
+1,000,000! The ACG preamp offers a fair bit more than the Wal preamp in terms of it's versatility, can't comment on the Alembic one though. Oh, and the new ACG EQ03 has low and high mid boost options and active/passive switching on top of all that. I can also vouch for the fit an finish on ACG's too, I've not seen any better :-) Eude
Did Ashdown quit making the Mag 600 ? I have one and like it with two Avatar 2x10 cabinets. Is this new 12 band head the same price as the ABM 500? I wish they could handle 2ohm speaker loads.
Looks like the TE500 is only a £10er more than the ABM EVO III >> http://www.soundsliv...ad~ID~17354.asp Eude
The HB and RS models are identical, but the Ibanez has a different pre-amp - the former two brands have a few more bells and whistles on the front panel. Beta Aivin were developing their own amp when Ibanez approached them with their requirements for a new amp - one of which was a pre-amp based on the MarkBass. The added features of the other Beta Aivin produced models appear to be there so they don't step on Ibanez's toes. However all the amps share the same power modules and supplies. So it might be fair to say that they're all clones of Beta Aivin.
Aaaaah, I stand corrected! I didn't realise that was how it went down. I also didn't know that Ibanez were chasing a bit of that MarkBass tone, which is probably why I like it! I really miss the sound of my ol' LM 250 with an Aggie 112, and I've been planning to up my rig a bit later this year, but maybe I should sort out cabs first and try them with the Promethean head, as it must just be making close to the noise I'm looking for anyway, I'm now fairly sure the natural low end of a 12" speaker compared to the 10" in the Promethean is what I'm really missing Eude
-
I should add though, that the fit and finish on the Promethean looks better than on the Red Sub and HB versions, plus, like I've mentioned before, some thought has gone into the design on their combo too, it's not "just a box" unlike the others...
-
Which is the clone, Promethean, HB or Redsub? If these really are the same is Ibanez taking the mick? We might assume there are differences beyond the red face (heh!) but there probably isn't. How can we find out?
The Prometheans came out first, probably by a good 6 months or so. Then, I imagine, the factory who made them for Ibanez pimped out their facility to other amp companies, so to all intents and purposes, they're the same amp in different boxes. What with them all being built in the same place, they should be identical, and dare I say it, with the Prometheans being the first off the assembly line, you'll probably find the latter ones a bit more reliable, as they'll have ironed out all the kinks on Ibanez's watch...
Ill do my best! just remember that its gonna be a bit subjective though. Im not expecting the Lm to be too far behind in volume as im using a 4 ohm cab. so far they both sound pretty good nice and warm but untill you get it alongside some guitars and drums and crank it up its hard to get the full potential. The LM250 seems a bit more rugged and less likely to be damaged. the sliders on the mibass look like they could get damaged easily. I also like to keep things simple and although the mibass has more ability to tweak the sound i can see me getting a tone i like and sticking with it
Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I loved the flat tone of my LM250 when I had it, and ideally I would go for a LMIII, but it's a pricey beast. If the MiBass 550 can make the same noise at 550W for less cash, I reckon I'll go for that Eude

Nice work mate! Any chance you indulge me a couple of requests? Firstly, I'm interested in the volume difference between these two, as I'm sure you are to. Secondly, any chance you could compare the core tone (or flat tone) of these amps, and if they differ, how easy it is to mimic the tone of the LM250 with MiBass? Much appreciated mate and have fun! I get my DR's from here >> http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Specialties Big big savings over buying from the UK, even when you factor in the postage from the US, we get ripped off something silly in the UK for most strings, but DR's especially... Eude
Yep the wizzy is on the list I've been wanting to try out some EA stuff too.
That Ashdown Mi10 looks like it's based an a very similar design to the EA Whizzy Cab, bet it's a sh*te load cheaper too!

Eden EX110 might do the trick... http://www.soundunlimited.co.uk/product_3107_Eden_-_300w_compact_full_range_cabinet_-_EX110.html Ashdown are releasing their Mi10 cab very very soon too >> http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?section=mb&ID=269 It's popping up at a list price of £200 Eude

Seems some pricing has come up for these new bits and bobs (from soundslive.co.uk) I imagine these are list pricing and might appear a bit lower when the products start shipping, especially on Thomann Mi10 1x10" Cab (still 200W at 4 Ohm I'm afraid peeps, bit of an oversight in my opinion) >> £199 Mi12 1x12" Cab (250W at 8 Ohm) >> £249 - reckon these will sell a bucket load MiBass 220 110 Combo >> £599 - a lot more than I thought this would be, especially seeing as you can pickup the 220 head for about £250 new MiBass 550 115 Combo >> £749 - a lot of power in something very portable/flexible, so not that bad a price TE-500 575W Head >> £599 - seems reasonable enough TE-C210-500 2x10 Combo - £899 Cheers, Eude
Slotting issue resolved and progress is underway. As a taster here is a rough cut of the body (before final sculpting etc)...
Now that is a cool looking bass. I used to struggle a bit with that Roscoe shape, but to my eye now, it's very much the "Thumb Bass" of the Roscoe range and that's never a bad thing Really chuffed things are on the move again dude, congrats Eude
I've got my LB212 and was surprised that it weighed 24kg! I had a look inside and its got celestion 12 200x Speakers in. Thinking id been sold a lemon I rang ashdown and spoke to Dave who designed the LB I sent him some photos and he assured me its how it should be? He said they used emminence in these cabs as well depending on what they had and that he would expect it to be heavier as it was heavy gauge birch ply. he told me I as lucky to get one of the few remaining British cabs There is a label inside saying who covered the cab and he said that it was made just up the road by the people who make orange cab. So its heavier than expected but seems top quality. Ill see how it sounds when my mibass head arrives today if its not for me ill just move it on but hopefully its a good un Bri
Wow, that's a bit heavier than expected! I guess if you can live with the added weight, it'll have added oomph! Be interesting to hear how heavy other folks' LB cabs are?... Hope you MiBass arrives safe and sound and you manage to give the whole setup a damn good go tonight Eude
Luke - do you mean USACG (USA Custom Guitars)?
From what I've heard, they make all the wood bits for Valenti Bass Guitars... -
My LB 212 is defo feels around 15kg which is astounding considering its output,( I am actually going to weigh it on some scales, will get back to you with the definitive) I am not saying the VS are heavy either, when you compare them with similar offerings in the market. Both the VS and the LB are great cabs, they really sound fantastic and because of the shape of them they are easy to move through doors etc and have great on stage dispersion. But who is going to be the first to run two VS212 ? ha ha that would be silly loud!
Well at 31kg, I reckon the VS-212 is no lightweight, but it's a big capable cab by all accounts and it's very cheap, so you can't have everything I agree, 2 of them would be a very powerful setup, but I imagine best reserved for someone who needs some serious on stage volume!... Eude

Hey mate, love the sound of the spec, and I don't think anyone will make you a better bass like that for the money. There is a small question of a wait, but at the end of the day, it'll be more than worth it. I'm more of an ACG guy these days, but I have owned 2 Shukers and they were absolutely incredible instruments and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jon's work. I'd say go for it Eude
I'm not sure about the VS cabs weighing more than the LB's. I emailed Ashdown a while back when they came out and they told me they were identical except the VS212 is a 4ohm cab and the LB212 is 8ohm. I also think they were lying about the weight of the LB cabs, somebody was selling an LB112 on here recently because it turned out to be 15kg instead of the advertised 9kg! Not sure what's going on really.
Really? I heard the LB cabs had Neo drivers and the VS ceramic ones, oh and the LB ones were handmade in the UK, hence the price difference. (I see you're a knight of Croydonia, I'm moving to Sanderstead in a couple of weeks!) Eude
