doesn't the SVT preamp have about 7 valves in it? how they fit all them and a power amp in there? Caitlinbread SFT is quite a good little (solid state) version of the SVT

The thing about Carvin is that is you look at the prices in US dollars and they are very competitive... look at the prices over here and they cost a bomb. Pick something of their's and google the model name- the top hit tends to be the American page- look at google's cache of the page and you get to see the US prices.

someone paid the postage! 300 including postage would be a bit cheaper if you picked it up. even if it wasnt for the cheap price of postage you get to try something out. imo creeping the price up to cover the postage cost is a bit cheap.

I really don't know why he did the whole basschat low price deal thing. The first time it was quite good and got a lot of our attention - with build threads started as people got excited about their forthcoming basses.... which petered out over time... and then another set of low price deals... what's the point in offering that sort of thing unless you can deliver on it? Like CamdenRob said.... it seems amateur - folk like Wal have long waiting time/lead time.... but are upfront about that. Which is fine as people know where they stand. Personally I don't know why why some people keep waiting and don't just try and recover their money by whatever means...

it's not just the nickel/ss thing, it's the guague, round or hex core., the colour of the silks... .all make a difference.

I did find a picture a bit like this and wonder, for a self build - given I can put in more time than a commercial cab can, wondered if building something from a inner frame outward might allow for enough stiffness.

for the stupid amongst us.... what's tension bracing? I've seen a few types of cab bracing around. I don't know the proper names! Fearful seem to favour using wood on the panels to stiffen it - a bit like a acoustic guitar top. Bill Fitzmaurice seems to advise a grid of dowels pushing out, I think Andy at ACME does similar. And Barefaced seem to (possibly) use some simple matrix type bracing.

I do wonder how much of the compressed sound of the TC stuff is the power section or the preamp - anyone stuck something else into the power section of a TC amp to see how it does?

So I do wonder exactly how much we need - like until I manage to sell it I've got a separate pre and power amp set up... and most PA power amps would blow my speakers if I went more than half way up.... so we have more efficient neo speakers, more power in our heads.... do we all play that much louder?
