  1. As an observer there seems to be a real obsession generally on bass forums with preamps in pedal format that I’m not sure was there a few years back
  2. Isn’t the cut order waiting on a wee update?
  3. Not a bad cheap rig. If you didn’t like gigging the bassman then it’s probsbly an upgrade. I only gigged a bassman once when I shared a rig with the bass player from Glasvagas - to my ears it sounded amazing
  4. Stop being coy, what do you think of Coldplay?
  5. Sadowsky Metro will Lee
  6. Ever since I started playing I wanted an early Warwick Thumb bass - the first proper bass I tried was a friends 5 string thumb and it is just a beautiful bass. My 30th present came a year early as bass and finances collided and I got my dream bass - a stunning 1985 Warwick thumb with a few ‘custom shop’ factory features... it then spent 4-5 years on my wall not being played. Ergonomics were ok but the tone and how it played never was first of second choice for the things I was doing. At meet ups with other bassists the Thumb was always popular and people enjoyed playing it but I just didn’t click with it. I recently traded it for a bass I was expecting to like but not love that I would try for half a year or so and move on. But from first play I realised it was a special instrument for me and my technique- I’ve tottaly clicked with it and it gets most the playing time now. my thoughts... Follow your GAS if you can afford, don’t hoard but try out things that you want to try out some things can’t be done off the shelf - if you know what you want, go custom. some makers build on a custom basis, if you like their work find s way to try it then that’s a good idea if you know and like the builder. Custom instruments don’t hold their value, either be prepared for the loss in value if you end up selling it on, or really really know what you’re after. I still think some instruments come together and seem to have some magic. Personally I would rather have a great instrument that is 90% what I want than a 100% my spec and wants that is a competent but not a great instrument - my temptation given £3k to spend would either be to try something I had Gas for (secondhand so I wouldn’t loose too much if it didn’t click) or try lots to find something that is great - someone local to me has an early stingray. On spec it’s ok, in your hands, even with corroded strings on it absolutely sings.
  7. What a find! Well done!!!!
  8. Routers are great if you enjoy making multiple templates and guides and doing lots of test pieces
  9. Ha it’s what the wife would think that is stopping me. And the fact my current rig is worth 800-900ish so it’s a bit of a jump in cost
  10. I made use of the fact that my wife speaks and writes fluently which make it way easier to talk to the seller. Culturally Germany and the UK are quite similar I think so if you can get around the language barrier is not a million miles from a basschat deal.
  11. Well jell. Looks great
  12. But miced up it adds something over and above the DI feed?
  13. I think you’ve said before that your bass rig is uses one of your own designed Jack cabs? If you were playing a big gig with a good sound tech would you expect/want your cab to be Miced? Is the cab adding that much to the sound?
  14. While I have no interest in this rather cool product if I were designing a unit to power if I would try and get it small enough to sit on or next to a pedal board, and seeing as it’s going to need to have some kinda power supply if the box doubled up as a power supply for pedals you get s lot of wins then.
  15. Given that the OP started with “what’s under here” I suggest a good amp tech may be a more pleasant experience for everyone involved.
  16. I had a Helborg pre and loved it too - the whole rig is v. Attractive but double what I would get if I sold my current rig.... but so tempted...
  17. I really enjoyed having the preamp, I had it feeding into an ashdown poweramp and ACME B2 and it was super clean. Downside was I bought the amp off a guy on here and didn’t check the specs, 20kg was fine, 60cm depth wasn’t. It got replaced by my Mesa Walkabout, small valvey, fits in the back of my car easy to lug about and sounds great.very different sound. am I tempted to try and sell and spend the extra it to get a helborg rig... yes.... actually- anyone near Leeds with one that I can come try????
  18. Not helpful!!!!
  19. It’s lots of fun, and making stuff is kinda how my brain relaxes and works - however it is also not a cheap way to get a bass!
  20. Q: your prototype had braces running vertically mid way across the side panels. (As well as curvy braces) were they felt to be not needed?
  21. Greenboy’s Fearful cabs use the LF varieties of a Kappalite crossed over to a mid driver. They came out at a similar time and from similar design goals as the first generation barefaced cabs - the Barefaced “big one” and a fearful 15/6 being comparible using the 3015 LF and chasing the massive big bottom. Both the gen 3 barefaced and the Fearless stuff isn’t tuned for as much bottom and gets more performance out of their drivers because of this. So it depends what you are chasing rig wise. Kappalite HO in a BFM Simplexx, Kappalite LF in a Fearful and the basschat cab are the first three designs that spring to mind - but they are all designed with different goals in mind - so it depends what your goal is
  22. Looks great - I recently picked up in a trade a Sadowsky metro and it’s simply amazing - yours is a lot prettier
